asshole Magic decks are the best

I had a black deck, extra heavy on the swamps, regular assortment of creatures, but the star of the show was 4 of these

edit: my friend had a pretty great Opalescence based deck

I think am actually pretty good at reading my opponent in a card game, and bluffing.

Why in netrunner I enjoy jinteki corp decks and criminal runner decks.

Jinteki has all kinds of powerful traps and criminal is good at being aggressive and setting the Corp on the back foot early

I don't think I have a favorite archetype per se, but there are some character examples of particular archetypes that I love.

Such as Eliot Spencer as the "tough guy with a dark past and a heart of gold"

(Side note, I googled the name because I wasn't sure if it was two Ls or two Ts or both and surprisingly, it turns out to be neither.)

I’ve always been able to build very effective decks in TCG’s even though I don’t deploy specific strategies.

I’d probably get destroyed by the truly pro players but I can whup up on most casual players

In role-playing games I have an archetype, which my friends in the group have identified

    It's "authoritarian maniac"

Which is fair enough, generally I play characters who are mostly sane and decent but who can be pretty ruthless if needed. And I prefer games when that fits the style. Doesn't work so much for dnd

Single player I normally go for the get up in their face and beat the shit out of them archetypes. Vanguard with a shotgun in Mass Effect for example. Multiplayer I like the make swarms of minions type when it's an option but I feel like that's pretty rare, like even moba things usually have very few of those.

I don't normally play Samurai, but their subclass in D&D 5e is so good.

I'm not very good at videogames, especially competitive ones which are almost universally shooters or action that require precise controller inputs, so I like to be a tank. Just let me set up other people to get the kills or take the objective or what have you.

In solo RPGs I'm a thief! Just sneaking around and stealing shit. I have thousands of hours in Morrowind and I probably have only fought like ten percent of those monsters. In CRPGs high charisma high thief stuff.

I am in the business of saving lives.

One little thing I love to see in media is when the guy who is obviously the star or highest paid person is being chewed-out/bullied by someone who in-universe outranks them but is either a character actor or featured extra.

I also really love the idiot savant, the guy who is basically useless at everything except his extremely specific field. Bonus points if there has been a slow burn constantly dripping information of their hidden capability.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Eliot is wild because he's almost a Mary Sue. Just good at fucking everything, but he's so quiet and reserved you don't really notice it. Dude can sing perfectly on key, play guitar, cook like a gourmet chef, and grow his own food. And for job skills, he's a ridiculous brawler, expert marksman, and even a bit of a grifter.

But he's also awesome so I don't hold it against him.

In RPGs, I like to go with the "Dancer" archetype, which I define as a subset of the support tree that emphasizes force multiplication over pure healing. A Zenyatta or a Lucio, to put it in Overwatch terms. I like to be able to support my team without being a pure healbot.

As a fighting game player, I've noticed that I have a streak as a psychological tormentor. If I find a move that clearly annoys you, you'd best believe I'm going to swing with that one until you get over it. Having poor reflexes and bad meta-reading skills, that's about all I have to rely on.

When it comes to deck-building, though, I have an unfortunate tendency to go for novelty over genuine function. For instance, in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, I built a team I called "Team Anger Point"-- all built around the Pokemon Ability "Anger Point", which causes a Pokemon that receives a critical hit to leap to the maximum possible boosted Attack value. Critical hits are fairly rare, but there are two moves in Scarlet and Violet (Flower Trick and Frost Breath) that are actually guaranteed to crit. And the regional variant of Tauros resists both of those moves. So the idea of the team is that on the first turn, you have your own Pokemon hit Tauros with one of those moves, and Tauros goes to town as long as it can thereafter. Well, here's the thing. If that were actually a great strategy, people would be using it. I scored a few surprise wins on the low rungs of the ladder, but high-level play moves too fast for anything that commits that amount of turn economy to actually win. And it was ever thus when you give me enough options: I'll actively avoid what's proven to work, in favor of trying to find some bizarre novelty.

My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

I play D&D adventurers league with a local group almost every week, which means I play with a lot of different people

And in D&D I've discovered I am way more interested in making Characters and having their build match th character than I am in making specific races or classes.

Lots of people have "Strongest possible Paladin" or "Sneakiest possible rogue" or "Horniest possible bard"

I have a rogue/fighter named Jack Valentine, with the investigator background and an impossibly high investigation skill (plus 12 at level 10), who uses a hand crossbow styled like a 38 special.

I have a Changeling Illusion wizard named Von, with the Charlatan background who usually takes the form of a chubby, affable human named Doctor Barnabus Von Winkle and sells snake oil out of the back of a cart.

I have a Warforged Paladin with the Dwarven Guild Artisan background, because he was built as an automated power hammer by his dwarven master blacksmith "father" who slowly tinkered and improved him until eventually the god of the forge gave him the spark of life. His name is Dmitri Kuznechnyy (of the forge) and he's a dwarven communist who gives away all the gold he earns.

I love two things in card/strategy games: completely degenerate bullshit and going really, really fast, even at the expense of good sense.

Why the hell would I put some puny 1/1 creature in my deck when I could save up for this giant 10/10 wyrm? Oh I lost before I had enough mana to cast it? Alas.

Oh, my friend. What if you could cast your 10/10 on turn one? What if you could cast your 24/24 vigilance lifelink trample on turn one?

when I'm not slamming BG value bullshit, I tend to build decks around elaborate inefficient synergies, lose about 20 games, then retire then deck after it wins once (usually due to opponent's mana problems)

Still upset they banned Sensei's Divining Top in legacy and killed my favorite deck.

They did it because dipshit control players would waste everyone's time by durdling around with top forever, doing nothing for 25+ turns and never actually end the game, whereas my deck (Doomsday Fetchland Tendrils) would durdle around with top forever, but then either win in 1 turn or immediately concede.

I like tanky heavyweights, healers and support, turrets and minions, monstrous swarms, and spammy attacks, like melee, projectile spam, AOE, and dots. Also shields and other damage absortion effects. I focus on strategy, tactics, and synergy. Twitchy, precise aiming is my weakness. The sniper archetype is my antithesis in playstyle and nemesis in games.

In TF2 this means medic, pyro, and engi. In OW it's Moira, Mercy, Symmetra, Torb, Rien, Orisa, Junkrat, Mei. In HotS it was Malf, the drunken panda tank, Azmodaz, Zag, the goblin engi with turrets, the fairy dragon, and the Star Craft medic. Oh and the siege tank, Sgt Hammer I think. In Smash Bros it was Bowser, DK, Megaman, Rob, and Duck Hunt. If i had the time and money to play WH40K I'd be orkz and nids all the way.

My most played character ever is probably my old disc priest in WoW. Got complimented a few time doing really hard 5 man dungeons.

In TTRPGs I really like playing an extremely dumb, earnest dude who is great at one or two things, usually somewhat bad at conversation, and capable at fighting. Lately that has manifested as something very close to himbo diesel mechanic Jack Reacher.

In card/board games I like to play the thing that is very good at defense and finds some way to convert said defense into offense. Like Juggernaut and Body Slam builds in Slay the Spire kinda shits.
