Keylogger safegaurding

I, somehow, contracted a keylogger today when I got home from work. I booted my PC, opened Firefox and went to these forums, where my anti-virus started going haywire with about a dozen keylogger warnings.

I quarantined the file but when I restarted it was still in my processes tree. I ended the process and unlike the typical spyware it didn't just immediately reboot itself. I'm doing a full fledged virus scan at the moment but it's a big drive... so in the mean time, is there anything out there that ensures that my keystrokes aren't being launched into cyberspace?

P.S. Do NOT download free DVD playing software, no matter how legit they look or perform :P Pretty sure that's how I got it.

this is a discord of mostly PA people interested in fighting games: https://discord.gg/DZWa97d5rz

we also talk about other random shit and clown upon each other

If you've got a software firewall, you can configure it to block any strange outbound connections (though there are ways around this). To see how it was installed, look at the modification dates on the executable. Do you know the name of the keylogger, or the filename it was running under?

Once you're sure you have a clean system (and I give this advice in every thread where someone has contracted malware: reformat and reinstall everything because you cannot trust anything after a breach), make sure to reset the passwords on everything you use from this machine. They may have already been compromised to an attacker.
