The series has three fucking episodes, maybe four left. I promise you you can survive a month at most.
And if you've got a bee up your bonnet this much, why not call in a mod and get an official ruling on shit?
I mean the thread can be used for the next Gundam anime too, not like they're just gonna suddenly stop making them
If the mods wanna make a ruling go for it but personally, if the talk stays here it's basically chasing me out of the thread because I've already been spoiled once by devil may care attitudes as to what gets spoiled when
So much for a general anime discussion where one anime dominates the thread for most of the time and posts about other anime get lost in a sea of unmarked quote trees
didn't the CSM overload also happen during christmas with the combined forum so the thread had like twice as many people as usual and there were differing expectations for spoiler usage and suchlike and it was just messier than usual
I dare say that if CSM chat returned to here it wouldn't be anywhere near as overwhelming as it was then. I also expect that once WfM has finished airing, it'll quiet down a bunch too. Especially since it doesn't have an ongoing manga as well.
It happened twice. Once in the regular thread, since there was a manga being serialized and anime streaming at the same time, it did take up pages, people needed to seriously tag spoilers because getting CSM spoiled is terrible, and there were anime onlies alongside manga readers doing deep dives on the source comparisons having parallel conversations.
Then the holiday forums happened, and for most of them there was just one thread, because holiday forums are short lived and surely there wouldn't be enough discussion about one series to drown out the holiday forums. There ended up being an extensive meta discussion between people that loved CSM and people that wanted the discussion to go away that drowned out all anime talk and with maybe two days left a holiday CSM thread was also created.
I read first 5 volumes of Hell's Paradise manga, while waiting for the rest of them to be delivered (because I do not have strength to wait years for next seasons to experience this story).
It's good! I enjoy the characters and relations between them, I enjoy the atmosphere, I enjoy the visual style and character designs, and I like that it is pretty much Sekiro x Full Metal Alchemist type of story, when looking at it's main plot points.
You know you can read it all online via Viz's site if you've got a subscription, yeah? It's bundled into the shonen jump subscription, but isn't on the app because of age rating.
Anyway, yes! It's good! I enjoy how focused it is, it's got a story and it's sticking to it. Gabimaru is a fun protagonist too (I'm just ignoring his official age being 16 though because wat. Dude is just a shrimpy 20 something year old)
I finished the first season of Demon Slayer last night. Very important question before I continue:
Does the little blond kid ever stop being completely insufferable? Because the series is amazingly pretty and the story is inoffensively average but fuck's sake I can't stand that little shit.
I’m going to post about wfm in here. I’m not going to another thread with bad vibes to make 1 post a week for a max 3 weeks
People shouldn't be acting clever about talking about things outside of spoilers, though. I've been keeping everything in spoilers even if it's a fanart meme.
well now that my sufferthrough of victory gundam is finished, I need something to watch during cardio days

finish Summertime Rendering (I got through the first 6 episode or so afaik, but this show is -a lot-)
rewatch G Gundam
finish Aura Battler Dunbine (I watched the first 26 episodes or so back in college and never finished it)
suggest something else (edit as long as its available on crunchyroll, netflix, hulu, hidive, prime, or youtube, it'd have to be something incredible to make me sign up for yet another streamer)
larlar option (I don't know what the larlar option would be in this scenario)
Watch Gundam Seed Destiny if you haven't, just so we can watch it break you like it broke @Lanz (obvs you'd have to watch Seed as well if you haven't, but that's okay, increases the suffering)

What if I put on a cool mask like Prospera has? What then!?
Nah if you've watched them already, you're good, you're already broken.
I don't get the fear of separate threads. Just bookmark it, what's the problem?
Forcing people that aren't interested to see your posts is half the fun though. Bonus points if you can spoil something 'accidentally' and get away with it!

Do as you please, I was told SE was a welcoming place these days but not feeling it, not getting that vibe
Peace ✌️
You’re being the hostile one, maybe something to work on
If I come across as hostile it's because I've been asking for a separate thread for a while now and it's been ignored, leading to me getting spoiled.
But yes, I'll self reflect on everyone else being very stubborn and insisting to talk about it here
It hasn't been ignored. Your concerns were heard, responded to, and people agreed that it didn't need its own thread, so you did one anyway, and keep getting needlessly hostile about it. If anyone keeps making the community less "welcoming" it's your selfish attitude.

People shouldn't be acting clever about talking about things outside of spoilers, though. I've been keeping everything in spoilers even if it's a fanart meme.
And they weren't, as far as I can tell, people were being very careful and respectful with spoiler tags. If Jay messed up and read one anyway, that's on him.
Naphtali of the mainline Gundams, I'm curious, what have you seen/not seen? I'm assuming you've seen the original Build Fighters?
I haven't seen OG Gundam (series), G-Saviour, AGE, Most of Reconguista (I couldn't get into it), first season of Build Divers, Twilight AXIS, and the new gundam movie (doan). I could watch the OG show but honestly I think I need a gundam break before it gundams my head
Ive never seen a Gundam, I tried once, but there was SO much Gundam stuff that I had no idea where to start, if every season/arc/series is on the same characters/timelines, like, can I skip the really old stuff? What are the entry points for Gundam?
Yes, with a quick verbal "boom." You take a man's peko, you deny him his dab, all that is left is to rise up and tear down the walls of Jericho with a ".....not!" -TexiKen

People definitely suck ass at talking about stuff outside of spoilers. Like, some people are really, really bad at it.
I try to never say anything about an ongoing show without tagging it beforehand, and even then that gets messy when a bunch of replies and nested quote trees get into the mix.
Pretty sure this is how Jay got spoiled in fact, a post of mine that had spoiler tags but the quote tree trimmed the initial context.
Ive never seen a Gundam, I tried once, but there was SO much Gundam stuff that I had no idea where to start, if every season/arc/series is on the same characters/timelines, like, can I skip the really old stuff? What are the entry points for Gundam?
So, there are multiple settings. Generally if it's given it's own signifier like universal century, post disaster, ad stellar, then it's it's own thing thing.
Universal Century is the original, and it's a big sprawling mess of multiple series, some of which are great jumping on points and others you're going to be lost.
The most recent series is Witch From Mercury. It's set in the Ad Stellar timeline. There's a prologue episode set sometime before the main series, and the main series which has 2 seasons and it's currently wrapping up it's second season.
Most other series are pretty self contained - Gundam 00 has two seasons and a movie. Iron Blooded Orphans is two seasons. Build Drivers has one terrible first season and one excellent second season, but other than sharing a few minor characters and a setting, you can watch the second season with zero issues.
If you wanted to give Gundam a try again, then jumping into Witch From Mercury is a good way to go. Otherwise, both Iron Blooded Orphans and Gundam 00 are considered solid shows.
The other thing is that since these shows are all their own thing, other than core themes of "war bad", they're all pretty different tonally and feel wise.
Iron Blooded Orphans is about child soldiers and it's a lot more grim and grounded than most Gundams.
00 is about terrorists trying to stop war by turning up and murking everyone, while everyone goes "wait, what the fuck!?"
Witch From Mercury takes place in a school setting, but is riffing hard on Shakespeare's The Tempest crossed with a lot of corporate intrigue.
Build Divers is set in a VR MMO, so it's way lower stakes than most Gundam. Etc

@Naphtali, dive deep into the sea of VIBES and watch Kimagure Orange Road
Yeah, I'm not gonna go post in another thread for a show that ends in a month and is only active for 2 days out of the week. A big part of the appeal of this thread is seeing so much random shit get mixed in and discussed together that I would never think to check out on my own; the whole "separate thread for every show" thing feels weird to me.
But also, can everyone please chill out and remember to throw a fucking spoiler tag up?
God, Heavenly Delusion is a frustrating one. I'm about halfway through and it fucking owns
Meandering post-apoc setting, gorgeously animated, the leads are genuinely likeable, and the horror elements are well paced, fun, and satisfyingly disturbing for the setting
It's otherwise a show perfectly targeted at me
and then uh oh whoops! there's the sexual assault for laughs! and the child sex! whoops tee hee whoops!
So, uh, majorish spoilers here in the manga for where the show's approximately at and Content Warning as fuck:
The dude that Kiruko is looking for? They find him, and he turns out to be a sadistic rapist who repeatedly rapes him and psychologically tortures him about his identity, whether he's actually male, female, his sister in her body, etc. It's not hugely graphic and Kiruko himself largely shrugs it off, but... uh... yeah.
Now, the anime has recently been shuffling a little bit around IIRC to bring the reveals about the vault stuff forward a bit, but the above is... probably this week and it is... not great.
Personally I find the whole "make a separate thread if you wanna talk about it so much" tiresome
I mean, but there already js a Gundam thread. It's like skipping the star wars thread to go spoiler post in a general movie discussion where people may not be interested in seeing pages of spoilered star wars talk!
Anyways I've said my piece, if the general consensus is "get fucked" then I'm content to go back to not posting here. It's a shame because I was actually recommend some good stuff here, but personally not worth the risk because now I'm not even sure if I'm gonna bother with WfM, both because of getting spoiled and the general attitude here
But anyways, it was nice posting with you guys. Maybe I'll post in the WfM thread if or when I get caught up. Hugs and kisses.
Ive never seen a Gundam, I tried once, but there was SO much Gundam stuff that I had no idea where to start, if every season/arc/series is on the same characters/timelines, like, can I skip the really old stuff? What are the entry points for Gundam?
so like, most shows aren't interconnected and just exist on their own continuities. if you can stand really old school stuff, you could just start with the original gundam show and be fine. I agree that there's so many spinoffs, retellings, movie compilations, it gets hard to know what to watch and where to go.
stuff that's connected (the "Universal Century" timeline, or otherwise referred to as UC)
og gundam, zeta, double zeta are all one chronological throughline of story and characters (there's a jump in time between OG and Zeta), and then finishes with char's counterattack (movie).
there's a bunch of OVAs in and around this timeline, many of which are stand alone and need very little setup (0080: war in the pocket and 08th Mobile Suit team can both be watched with little knowledge and are both great. 0083: Stardust Memory is basically Top Gun, but giant robots sort of). unicorn is semi-standlone but expects you know everything going on before char's counterattack. it's a gorgeous OVA, but ultimately a sort of low-stakes story. it has a movie that happens after its events called narrative (don't bother watching it unless you liked unicorn).
gundam: the origin is kind of a starting point. it goes into the history around char aznable (the main antagonist) before the start of the original gundam show. it slightly retcons some events but honestly, its fine. very pretty at least.
another pretty, but canonically dubious OVA is gundam thunderbolt. takes place completely isolated from the rest of the OG gundam's plot. if you like jazz, well, here's your thing. can't really recommend it though.
beyond these, there's Gundam F91 (an aborted show that got turned into a movie to coincide with a gundam anniversary, its kind of mid), and victory gundam (the last official universe century show... I can't really recommend it)
stuff that's totally standalone:
Iron Blooded Orphans - you want your war is bad story, well, here it is. child soldiers and lots of tragedy all around. its pretty good though.
Gundam 00 - another okay starting point but I think the start of it is pretty dry and I know that makes it a hard sell. It might be my favorite overall, as it deals with a lot of stuff other gundam shows don't, and has some great characters. has a movie capstone to finish off the series that's pretty good.
SEED - sort of a fancy retelling of the original show. It has a sequel series (Destiny) and a spin off OVA (Stargazer). It's sort of a hot mess. The first season is okay, but is 00's anime to the hilt.
G Gundam - crazy gundam wrestling. Honestly fine for a starting point but its bonkers, and very different from every other show.
Gundam Wing - crazy gundams being super robots and everyone being dramatic as hell. also a fine starting point, but its also bonkers but in a different way. has a 3 part OVA/movie that's a sequel to the series.
Gundam X - post apocalypse gundam where people are just trying to survive after everything went nuts. also takes vibes from the OG show in the form of newtypes. it's alright but has too much filler, considering the show got cancelled and had to finish in a rush.
Build Fighters - a very meta show that's a bit of a celebration of everything Gundam (like, every show) but its mostly about kids playing with their gundam models and making them fight each other. it's kinda wholesome, but without a background on the shows I'm not sure it'll hit the same. Has several sequel series that aren't as good, or straight trash, and one that's actually really good but its a slow burn to start (Build Divers RE:Rise). I rate the first series and RE:Rise, but again, not the best starter shows.
AGE - Level 5 helped write this show, it's supposed to take place over several periods of time as people from mars invading earth and the generations of earth people fighting off their invasions AFAIK. Haven't seen it.
stuff that's sort of standalone, but helps if you know stuff about UC
G-Saviour - live action gundam movie, sort of in the way future of UC. Haven't seen it myself
Turn-A Gundam - this is effectively a standalone show about people from the moon wanting to move to the earth, and then the earth people start finding buried technology (including gundams) and it goes from there.
Reconguista in G - its just a big mess, but its also sort of related to UC Gundam as its set in the far, far, far, far future. its not very good, at least what I've seen of it.
edit: how could I forget, the current running show is Witch From Mercury (totally standalone). It's very good so far, but it isn't done yet so who knows, it might end up tripping over its feet at the end.

The best advice I can give for traversing the anime thread is to just not be interested in any current anime in production.
Just fly past any discussion of CSM or Gundam: Mercury Witch(?) or whatever happens to be the hottest thing at the moment.
The closest I come to a fleeting eye on contemporary stuff is when someone mentions Birdie Wing and I take a quick second to see if a dub has been announced yet.

The closest I come to a fleeting eye on contemporary stuff is when someone mentions Birdie Wing and I take a quick second to see if a dub has been announced yet.
Time to watch Aquarion then, and revel in true nonsense.
Quick, we can derail the thread with the subs vs dub argument!
