Honestly, going back through the strip I think the biggest issue is page 3 ("I wait for the light"). If he had used that stinger at the end of page 2, it would have fixed the pacing. Especially since that's really the first page. The problem is due to the 3/week posting structure, being stuck with a full panel that does very little to advance the story is rough.
TBH, if Wheel Saint was a full on comic book and not side strip run in an "every other day" format I'd say the pacing was absolutely fine, because the slow build works just fine when I can read fast. It's specifically because we've been stuck without context for so long that the earlier strips were less engaging. For people in the future reading back through the strips, I think it will come off just fine.
Also, I'd totally buy a proper Wheel Saint comic. I think the world building has a lot of potential.
This would legit be a fun concept for a game. A Crazy Taxi but for Souls.
Honestly, I'd love an Avalanche style Mad Max game set in this world. Get some good pacing with Samuel modding and upgrading his car, some vehicle combat with a bit of depth, some on-foot sections. Yet another thing I would totally buy, but probably way more investment than anyone would be willing to make.
The Buick Grand National is a classic for many reasons. The makers took what was thought of as an 80s upper middle class car, put in more acceleration than could be found on many pure sports cars of the day, and gave it an all black paint job. I've read a descriptions of it akin to imagining if Darth Vader was a car. Perfect choice for story.
I like the implication that between panels 2 and 3, he popped the door and just scooped her right up into the passenger seat.

What? No. He clearly hits her with the car, but she's a ghost so she just slides through the door. That's why she screams, because that's what ghosts do when they pass through solid objects!

She's screaming because she doesn't know what a car is. That's the whole point of panel 3 and 4.

I disagree. That's a well controlled drift in the first panel.

Jesus saves, and takes half damage
Half our sins are forgiven.
Half numerically or half by magnitude of sin? So I get to choose which half?
