I like that the block timings are all different. It’s supposed to be tricky to keep you from mastering it right away.

    Keeps you on your toes

The offensive timings are pretty generous but yeah the defensive timings are much tighter and it does try to trip you up, but I feel like the initial description is accurate and 'don't worry about getting it everytime, think of it like a little treat' is the best way to think about it

  • Options

I think my only 'wouldve been nice' about the combat were I wish there were more than 3 abilities per character.

That bit about defensive timings on the block being a "treat" is a flat lie by the game when enemies chunk your party members if you don't get the block. Like those bomb boomerang guys.

Yeah early game can be rough, I assume the relics make it easier though.

Interrupting casts IS extremely important though, either by doing the right attacks or just blitzing an enemy down with magic

My only issue is…there seems to be a lot of times where I would have needed 3 moves to break a spell but only had 2 before it was cast.

Ya there are some times where you're not gonna be able to break a spell. Often I found I was better off having Valere put the shield up on everybody and ignoring the lock.

Especially in boss fights once you learn which spell lock sizes indicate they're about to do an attack that does a real large single hit that you can completely negate with the shield.

Oh yeah. Lunar Shield is almost OP. As long as you keep her MP up you can fire it off at a moment’s notice.

Yeah for normal enemies that’s when it becomes ‘well I can’t break the cast but can I just burn them down with magic instead?’

The game definitely doesn’t want you sitting on resources, food is plentiful and combo points/love mana don’t carry over into the next fight so there’s plenty of reason to just use stuff when you get it. I can see the early game being kind of rough so there’s certainly no shame in turning on some of the relics if you’re having issues

  • Options
    JavenJaven Registered User regular
Actually speaking of relics, I avoided using them generally because they were positioned as a ‘male the game easier’ mechanism, but in hindsight I wish I’d turned on the one that makes an extra indicator when you time something correctly. There IS an audio cue in the form of a chime, which is good, but the visual indicator would’ve been handy when you learn a new skill or get a new party member

  • Options
Raijin QuickfootRaijin Quickfoot I'm your Huckleberry YOU'RE NO DAISYRegistered User, ClubPA regular
I turned that one on so I could have a definite visual cue because I often play with the sound low

  • Options
    H0b0manH0b0man Registered User regular
I wish there was a practice mode or short video that would show you when the button press is supposed to be.

The relic is nice to confirm that you hit it, but it does nothing to help you figure out when the timing is. There were a number of abilities that I never figured out the timing no matter how much trial and error I did.

I have a question about Valtraid though.

    Minor spoiler
Is he that big and the magic shirt hides it or does the magic shirt make him that big?

I'll probably turn on the auto heal after a fight relic soon, right now it's either the fight lasts long enough to pop the combo heal just before taking down the last enemy or goes too fast for that while leaving the team full of holes for the next fight.

I'll check to make sure it won't break any achievements though. Can't tell since the devs decided to hide the vast majority.

the true ending for blasphemous is actually just doing the collectibles and a completely inscrutable without a guide "puzzle"

it's much easier than the first and personally the good ending is way more satisfying

I figure it's the second option
He's just a normal guy that gets made huge by ripping the shirt but only for a short duration. They do bits with him that only work if it's a short term change, like the logs in Mirth.

    No.
You can think of her more in the context of a hostess or someone at a maid cafe. The service appeals to a customer that wants a cute girl to do things for them, but it's all about the fantasy.

How does P5 Royal play on the Switch? I'm looking to move to another game, Fire Emblem is a bit too close to Midnight Suns. P5 looks like it's on sale right now.

As a turn based RPG, it should play fine. Just low resolution and locked at 30 fps.

It runs fantastic. Everything is smooth and haven't had a single issue other than trying to manage my anxiety of not picking the wrong thing to do with my time.

    One hundred percent reccomend it.

    Ehh
It's heavily implied that the company she works for is one of the types that use the "hostess" service as a front and that the real business actually is prostitution. Kinda like some escort services in the US, what they claim to be is just a facade for legal reasons.

Without spoiling anything this also would align with Kawakami's need for money and her penchant for self-destructive behavior to get it.

    Yeah, but also no?
The company had two divisions. One is the call out maid service, the other is actual prostitution. She desperately does not want to work for the other division, but realizes it might be necessary to keep up with the increasing money demands. The people extorting her already think she's turned prostitution, but she has not. I want to say the last interaction when you learn this is what opens up the Mementos quest.

Now that I’ve played more of Sea of Stars the problems are becoming more apparent.

With so few special abilities combat is getting very monotonous and yeah…it’s just dungeon after dungeon after dungeon

It's definitely implied that the Maid service can include NSFW stuff. At the start of the whole thing Kawakami says that some services will be off-limits when she realizes Joker is a teenager. The sex worker accusation isn't played as a misunderstanding either.

That’s kinda where quick-swapping is supposed to come in I guess to keep it interesting, and it does, to an extent, I just wish that there were more. Ironically enough the timed-attack inputs for the various abilities don’t do the lack of variety any favors. It gets boring using moonerang for the 500th time and pressing A on the bounces

I got the achievement for bouncing it over 25 times and realized that, while it was fun to use, I would need to do that every single time I used it.

Conversely at least Sunball is just press and hold for a few seconds.

Started up Trials of Mana at way too late o' clock. Picked Riesz to start with and chose Angela + the priest girl for companions since I figure Riesz is the brawn and the other two are the magic/healing part of things. Got to the Cascade Cavern before I called it for the night. Story is...basic thus far. It feels odd sometimes, like it doesn't know what kind of tone to set. Riesz opening for example has some Saturday morning cartoon villain dialogue followed by "sleep powder" making everyone in the castle "fall asleep" before finishing up with the final scene of showing everyone in the castle very awake until they get sliced apart by ninjas.

Side note, whoever designed the female outfits in this game doesn't just need to touch grass they need to touch the entire goddamn prairie. I know JRPGs like to make the female outfits a bit skimpy but both Riesz and Angela are barely wearing anything and the game is not shy about the camera angle proving as much.
