When did they stop putting IR in smartphones anyway that was definitely the most universal remote for a bit.

That was years ago. Probably 6 or 7 at least since my Galaxy phones had an IR blaster.

My kids always lose the damn Firestick remotes so I end up having to use the app.

The app is fine except that it seems to randomly want to make me log back in which interrupts whatever I’m watching

I've moved over most of my smarthoming over to individual RF remotes with physical buttons, because physical buttons are Good. It'd be nice if I could have my phone or some central device duplicate all those RF signals so I could have a central control, but so far I've been too lazy to figure out how to do that. I think it would be possible with Home Assistant and a few more interface gadgets.

When I was working at Best Buy (granted this was close to 9 years ago) Zagg shields cost anywhere from $25 for the basic up to like $70 for the highest end.

Oh, I looked up my order and it was 36 bucks back in 2020, so I’m close to 11 bucks per replacement at least.

I got a sofabaton X1s or whatever. The one with the hub. Got it set up. Kinda similar to the Harmony but uses a phone app instead of plugging it into the PC. Got it controlling the TV/over the air, roku, Sony UBP, and the PS5 assuming I ever need to use it instead of the UBP to watch a disc?

Seems okay so far? Has backlit buttons.

I just spent the time to figure out how to get my Sony Bravia remote to work with my Xbox and I'm kicking myself for not putting in the effort earlier. We do all our watching through various apps on the console and I'd forgotten how nice it is to not have to turn on a controller to change the channel

    AT&T you bastards

Wife and I went to get new phones since they have a really good trade in right now if you upgrade to the 16 Pro Max.

We both want black and they’ll have to be ordered but the guy tells me if I go with the natural platinum it will ship a week earlier.

Since I have a case on it anyway I agreed

Cut to today, check the order and the black phone shipped today while mine is still pending!

I should have just got the black one!!!

So I think my TV is dying. It is taking noticeable longer to turn on. Like a good twenty second from button press to image? I should probably start looking for an affordable replacement.

Part of my brain: But what if you got a really good TV?

That was actually one that came up on the review website I looked at.

How and or what are the AI stuff on the LG C4?

Also weird follow-up, does anyone know the box size? I wonder if it'll fit into my Honda Fit.

Usually you can add about 6 inches to the length and height of the TV to get the box size, especially for the bigger models. Or at least that has been my experience. You could probably look at the TV you want on Amazon and under dimensions it is usually the package dimensions listed and not the actual product.

assuming the web tv os is the same for the C4 on my C1, AI is replacing the word Smart or Dynamic in the marketing for some features you can turn on.

Follow up. LG and the review websites say it does 144hz, but the product information on Bestbuy and Amazon say 120Hz but then the "Manufacture Information" sections say 144hz.

    Should I be concerned?

In the UK/Europe it's called a Honda Jazz.

I think "fit" is better, because my mate had one. Could fit loads of stuff in it

Pretty sure with a little elbow grease you could fit a shipping container into a Honda Fit

    I have a C8 and C2 but the C2 was only 120hz. I don't think they've increased that, so I would assume 120hz.

But yes, get the LG. Best TV ever.

The box is quite large due to the large styrofoam blocks, not in depth but length and width.

Also have someone help you unpack, the TV's are super thin and while the 65" was bad, the 77" felt like I was dancing on a razors edge.

They're all glass and aluminum. Most TVs are plastic and plastic.

    OLEDs are heavy as fuck.

Wall-mounting my LG OLED without help was an extremely stupid decision, I could have dropped it so easily in a hundred different ways.

  • KadithKadith Registered User regular
i really don't understand why they don't just put plastic reinforcement across the entire back, it's not going to add a whole lot of weight and they've all already got the bulge where the powersupply and brains are

This TV was not heavy. I could have done it my self but my 7 foot friend helped, which was overkill.

I have an older OLED (Sony A8F) and I had to have help getting it on the wall. I could pick it up ok, but trying to get it hooked on with all that weight and bulk while I couldn't see the frame wasn't happening.

Nothing was worse than wall-mounting my old Plasma. Just an absolute tank. Gorgeous picture though!

My current Vizio is great, but I am definitely looking forward to upgrading it to an LG OLED at some point (or whatever the new hotness is at that time).

Plasma were tanks and thats why I had no fear mounting them. OLED’s just look and feel like they’re going to snap at any moment

I know the thinness is supposed to be a cool feature but I’d rather have a little more physical TV so it feels safer
