This thread is for all things Diablo:

Please feel free to ask questions, share stories and items, plans for new seasons, hopes for new content, and so on!

DIABLO IV!
How to join the clan, The Merch Hungers.
HexDex wrote: »
1. Joining the clan is a multi-step process. Once you request to join, I or an officer have to accept your request. Then you will get an invite that you need to accept. You wont auto join once you have been approved.

2. You have to opt into quick join in this game. It's not on by default like D3 so your friends/clan mates cant just jump in.

Still have a bunch of people who have requested the invite, but have not accepted it!
ALSO
the cap of 150 clan members unfortunately returns. In addition to the above, please PM @HexDex or @Noggin to let us now that your request to join is legit, and you should be approved as soon one of us is able.

1.1.1 preview (not final)
https://www.wowhead.com/diablo-4/news/diablo-4-patch-1-1-1-campfire-chat-liveblog-334334

Classes
  • Barbarian is able to use 4 weapons, and can switch between them based on skills.
  • Sorceress can enchant two of their skills as extra passive effects.
  • Druid freely shapeshifts based on skill usage, and can specialize with animal spirits to augment their build.
  • Rogue mixes both blades and bows, can imbue their weapons, and specializes in combo points, energy regen, or cooldowns.
  • Necro will have minions that can be sacrificed for bonuses, some classic bone skills, and some fresh blood and even damage over time skills.

Legendary items & Aspects
  • Items can add ranks to skills, going past the cap or providing a skills you don't have.
  • Legendaries provide benefits that can roll on almost* any “rare” item, be claimed from a dungeon as an Aspect, or extracted from an item by the Occutlist. Then you can imprint the aspect onto another rare item.
    * Legendary powers are found/imprinted by category on the following slots:
Defensive - Shield, Helm, Chest, Pants, Amulet
Offensive - Amulet, Weapon, Gloves, Ring
    Resource - Helm, Amulet, Ring
Utility - Shield, Helm, Chest, Amulet, Gloves, Ring
    Mobility - Amulet, Boot

Campaign / Endgame:
  • The campaign only needs to be completed once, and Lilith statues only need to be found once. Statues map: https://d4builds.gg/map/
    ---
  • World tiers (initially two) allow you to raise the difficulty of the game in return for more reward. Tier 3 has sacred items and uniques, tier 4 has ancestral items.
  • Nightmare Dungeons: there are keys that will bring a specific dunegon area to higher level, with modifiers. These will allow you to level Glyphs, which are kinda like legendary gems in the form of a passive skill you socket into the paragon board.
  • Helltides: From world tier 3 on, a map region can be consumed by a helltide, empowering the monsters and allowing them to drop Cinders, which can be used on chests scattered around the area to receive a specific reward, or a mysterious chest with multiple items: https://helltides.com/
  • Whispers of the Dead: Sorta like bounties, events scattered around the world worth 1, 3, or 5 favors on completion. 10 favors can be exchanged at the Tree of Whispers for your choice of a loot cache.
  • PVP is available in a select few zones. It is completely optional and only provides cosmetics.

Gameplay
  • Large, open map with world events and other players. Dungeons are solo or party of four.
  • Controller support confirmed for PC, including option for Bottom-Left or Bottom-Center action bar

Noteworthy game options:
Sound
- In-game Loot Sounds can be turned off for all or certain types
- You can raise the threshold for loot sounds to occur from Common to Magic/Rare/Legendary/Unique
- You can enable sounds for ambient loot (which I think means if you left the area and walked back it would play again)
- Error dialog can be replaced with a noise, or turned off entirely.

Gameplay
- Channeled skills can be turned into a toggle
- You can reduce strobing lights if that's a concern
- Advanced tooltips can be enabled to show property ranges and whether they are additive/multiplicative

Controls
- On PC, movement, basic attack, and interact are all on left click by default. You can disable that and set them individually, or rebind the basic skill and enable “move and interact” on left click.
( Note that you can swap between KBaM and Controller seamlessly, at any time, just by using it )
- Controller lets you lock-on to targets by tapping right-stick (AMAZING for kiting playstyles)
- Likewise, “Persist Target Lock” will automatically lock onto something in your next pack of enemies

Social [ and Clan! ]
- Cross platform play can be disabled, but it locks you out of the Clan feature
- NPC dialog can be removed from the chat box
- Local chat is joined by default, but you can leave it
- The "Clan Member Comes Online" notification is off by default
- Quick Join is off by default. Some of us used this a lot in 3 so it's good to be aware of.

Accessibility
- Screen shake and combat hit flashes can be disabled
Diablo II: Ressurected
It's actually happening happened, it's out now!! Same game mechanics, new graphics, along with increased stash size, an auto-pick gold option, and controller support!

This game's difficulty system is so funky. The game feels pretty steady up until you finish the first capstone. Then you jump into WT3 and have to struggle for a little while to get a foothold, that's fine. Eventually the dial swings completely the other way where the world content is -5, which it never was in WT1/WT2. Then you get to WT4 and the world content is briefly really hard again. What's the point of all this? They should really separate difficulty from progression milestones.

I messed around with a trap build on my eternal rogue, and I have no idea if it could be good, per se, but it was pretty fun. Poison Trap, Death Trap, Preparation specialization and the Exposure passive means you can drop trap after trap. Death Trap, being an ultimate and a trap, benefits from Preparation and Exposure while Poison Trap can be instantly reset on casting Death Trap , via Preparation, as well as by triggering Exposure. With the Caged Heart of Trickery dropping the taunting, exploding shadow clone on Poison Trap (since it's a Subterfuge skill), it would mitigate the problem I'd have with enemies just running out of the Poison Trap.

Personally, the only real problem I have with going trap heavy is that, for me, the static nature of traps feels strange with how mobile the rogue can be. I want to just Dash around and slice fools up with my blades. But traps do have some fun interactions.

I'm using an all traps all the time rogue build that I'm sure is garbage beyond what lowbie stuff I'm doing, but its fun to make the ground unreadable and basically run around bombing enemies

I got these unique gloves, and 34% of the time my attacks spawn a shadow clone who will do the same attack.

If I’m using my own shadow clone, I can place 3 traps at once.

I have something where when I attack people in my traps it lowers the cd on traps.

    All the poison traps out.

Group runs across a poison enchanted enemy, they instantly hate the rogue.
They really need to do something to make Rogue's poison trap more distinct from the various poison and acid farts of enemies.

The -5 level thing was their clumsy attempt to appease the "I don't like world scaling because I don't feel more powerful" complaints. Instead all it does is make stopping to kill things in the world (non-helltide/legion/whatever obv) essentially a total waste of time. I have to imagine it also cripples the value of whisper farming as well since the monsters you end up killing for them become worth so little, and only the completion bonus has any relative value.

I don't know if the change really satisfied anyone.

I didn't get to play the first four days of the season, so I'm just now level 42 on my Druid. Been leveling as Pulverize, but since they give you Dire Wolf's as one of the seasonal aspects, I'm likely going to start switching to Lighting Shred for end game.

I feel like Pulverize starts really slow but once you have some of the core aspects and passive it starts to really club things. Once I got better with the rhythm of the two automatic Overpower passives I really started to push through packs quickly. The Fortitude gain and sustain are really strong.

heh hilariously that's exactly what I'm doing. All those traps plus cal trops (which is also a trap!) And then running barrage and poison imbuement. Basically I lure them in to my trap nightmare and they never leave.

I was able to do pretty decent on the one hell tide I just tried, just got a little roughed up by the level 58 enemies hitting higher than my not at all ready for it gear and levels.

I never got the "I don't feel more powerful" argument. At some point you are so much stronger than equal level enemies it just doesn't matter. How much harder do you need to one shot everything? I always wondered if this complaint came primarily from people who were running way off meta, or complete clown car, builds. Any sort of quasi-optimized build should eventually absolutely outclass equal and even +1/+2 level stuff.

In diablo its not an issue, but in other games with scaling it certainly is an issue. Like the textbook one for me is always destiny and its sequel, I never really feel any stronger in that game when I "level" up.

And yeah Diablo if you're suddenly wet noodle its time to have a serious look at your build.

I think it's a philosophical question of whether ARPGs should become easier or harder as you progress. Campaigns typically become harder, and 1-50 feels okay in that respect. D4 switches philosophies in the endgame to say that now you're grinding in order to kill things faster.

The thing is, this was already the case! The level scaled endgame was a lot easier than WT2! Maybe they felt they had to do this because of the nerfs, but I think -5 is too much. Although the whisper XP buff actually does seem to make up for it.

  • rahkeesh2000rahkeesh2000 Registered User regular
I just though it was weird that it was an immediate wall where enemies fall behind, especially in WT4. Like you hit 75 and things stop scaling until you're 80 and then are 5 levels behind you forever. I would've expected a much more gradual thing, like

    76-80: 1 level behind
    81-85: 2 levels behind

    etc.

Well, the game is just as much gear dependent as build dependent. If you're not getting the right drops you need for your build (or don't know what the "right" gear is due to opaque stat systems and piles of bad/broken/trap affixes), you can also end up behind the power curve.

honestly I dont think the stats are that hard to understand; if you do a minimal amount of external research you've basically got it (e.g. the multiplicative bucket explanation), and even if you don't you'll probably get to T3 or so without it mattering very much. Most stuff is pretty self explanatory aside from like, overpower being a little weird

What I learnt is that actually going diverse in your skills early is bad. Stack your basic to 5 points and your core to 5 points. You’ll one shot most things early game and by the time your power is dropping off you’ll start having aspects to specialise and increase the power again.

Doing this at 47 and its a neat trick but doesn't seem super practical? Not seeing any sacreds and the XP per effort isn't that great either (unless you got a god build, which, doesn't seem to exist for sorcs.)

probably not but I don't think it really matters that much; like skulls in rings vs all resist is gonna be a pretty negligible difference either way

the only thing that's really non-intuitive (with advanced tips on) is vuln being its own multiplicative category, since it isn't well differentiated from the other conditional percentile increases. Which is bad and they ought to change it (or just get rid of vuln cause it's dumb anyway), but it's not something that'll impact the great unwashed masses until they reach a relatively high level

660 armor before level 70 is pretty substantial and contributes significantly to not getting pasted frequently, which is what I watched happen to his rogue. I'm sure there were other suboptimal things going on as well (the gems is just the only thing I could offer advice on at a glance), which is kind of my point about the difference between most of the people in this thread and the masses.

So I got an Icy Alchemist aspect and that one, after using it for a little bit, is just way better than the Toxic Alchemist. One, I could actually see the procs. I did wind up finally noticing the Toxic procs, but they are so small, like barely the size of a mob, but the ice explosion is both more noticeable and seemingly bigger than the poison one, deals more damage (like 3-4 times) and chills enemies. I only have chilling from the Vile Apothecary heart, but I was getting decent procs. I think I'll probably keep using the Icy Alchemist aspect in the build, especially since I'm probably going to use Penitent Greaves if / when I get them for more chilling.

Y'know what? After five times through, I'll say it.

The capstone dungeons are shit. Unavoidable CC, unavoidable damage, continual daze--the person who came up with that status effect should be fed to the pigs--and far, far too long. They suck ass.

Edit: Like, why the fuck give all these knights big obvious attack tells if the attack actually hits 360 around them not matching the animation? Why bother? So you can look like you tried?

Started my 3rd char, a sorceror, and it's definitely been the smoothest and most fun levelling experience so far. Currently at 44 and still enjoying teleporting into things and ICESMASHING the entire screen.

I gather I will soon hit 'the wall' where sorceresses become terrible but right now I feel very powerful, moreso than I did on my rogue and about equivalent to my Necro.
