It’s easy to hate the Dodgers for that shit but I’m a Yankees fan and that would make me a hypocrite.
Also they didn’t break any rules. They just outsmarted other teams.
it’s easy to be pissed off at the Dodgers and Yankees but really I’m just pissed at the Mariners for spending zero money ever
That’s the thing. Any team can afford to do it. They cry small market and poverty but there is so much god damn money in the MLB that it shouldn’t be a problem.

i’m not out here going to give teams credit for abusing the spirit of the rule to follow the letter, plus it only works for them because ohtani makes so much money in advertising that he doesn’t even need to be paid right now. its like saying the patriots outsmarted the nfl because brady had an incredibly wealthy wife so took a bunch of friendlier deals than he could have gotten.
I ended up on the Jumbotron expertly framed to not show my cleveland guardians hat and like props to that camera operator. I was in a block of people like Detroit jacket, Mets hat, LA hat, myself and they made us look like home team fans somehow

4 run eighth inning gives the Tigers a 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the 8th
Alright now I gotta buckle down and stop being a tigers fan but they’ve now done two nice things for me this year, roughing up KC to give Cleveland the division; and roughing up Houston just to to rough up Houston
god i don’t wanna get eliminated by the mets. i don’t really care if the phillies get knocked out they’ve been so fucked up since the break but i really don’t want to go out to the mets.

I'm still an Astros hater, so I'm glad they're out. And I'm glad Detroit is onto the next round, almost purely because I really like the fancy D (winky goes here) logo of theirs and tigers in general
All estimates and doesn’t factor in what is actually available to the owner
The Yankees are also estimated to have double the revenue of the AL Central teams, but they also nearly double the revenue of the Mets, which indicates that the net difference is primarily due to their legacy vs market size
The Cardinals are the 10th most valuable franchise and have about 30% more revenue than the Royals for example, despite being basically equivalent markets
Nearly every franchise appreciates in value by more than the S&P, despite the owners basically doing everything they can to make watching baseball terrible (by focusing on payroll instead of winning)
Market size driving either competitiveness or franchise profit/value is made up horse shit
Also teams like the Royals basically being basement dwellers in exchange for draft picks to build an underpriced payroll to then make a playoff push every 1-2 decades sucks for the sport.
You want your ownership to make wise decisions on their payroll, not be "thrifty" and give you unwatchable product five out of every ten years.
The fact that the Nationals basically do the same thing besides being in a huge market with top five richest ownership is also pretty galling.

Yes, this is all correct. But what would this look like in practice? Take half the players from the top 10 payroll teams and spread them around the other 20?
I guess what I'm getting at is, is it possible to distribute the talent around MLB to actually get everyone to a semi-regular competitive state? Is there enough talent in MLB to share among 30 teams?

Point of order, David Glass had no intention of building a playoff team at all until he got close to death.
David Glass was also the reason the team was shedding payroll like mad from '94 when Kauffman died (RIP) and the team went to board control, until 2000 when he bought the team outright. He got his win, sold the team, and then died.
The team also tried to extend their window after 2015 and just, horrendously botched it. There were a couple years where they weren't deliberately tanking, they were just real B A D.
The Royals of '69-'93 would be an unrecognizable franchise compared to the what we got since then.

I'm afraid I'm getting too hyped with how hot the Tigers have been coming into the playoffs.

It’s Caratini, Pena, and Dubon in the ninth.
Tigers leading off with a hit! Get some more runs!
This is where I hate baseball managers.
A dumb bunt. Followed by bad baserunning.
Then a base hit that should have scored a run.
Now a wild pitch that may have scored another run.

Holy hell Chourio, to be more precise. Really impressive outing by him.
After a slow start for the first couple of months or so he really had a hell of a season.
The Midwest heard y’all wanted more Central Division action this season
You’re welcome
Tigers - $99m
Royals - $123m
Yankees - $309m
I want the lil guys to beat up the big guy, even if they have to combine forces to do it.
