Immortals of Aveum -- It has Gina Torres

I am kind of interested in this game. The hardware requirements are steep.

I went ahead and ordered it. I got the Deluxe edition on sale on EA shop for $62.

Here is the story.
An Unforeseen, Jak, is thrust into the Everwar – an endless struggle between Lucium and Rasharn over the control of magic. Jak and Lucium’s elite Immortals must race to uncover the mysteries of Aveum’s past, if there’s any hope of saving its future.

What do you think about it?

Here are the absurd hardware requirements:

That sounds like one of the most generic ass prompts for a videogame I've ever read.

I am in the business of saving lives.

Well yeah, it's Call of MagicDuty, it's gonna be a bit generic. But I'm definitely keeping my eyes on this, it could be a good time.

Jesus I built an expensive pc in 2020 and it is below these requirements
I can only assume they didn't even try to optimize the PC version

They are about to have Armored Core 6 to come out and it runs on a 1060GTX.

It is kind of nuts that this game has such steep hardware requirements.

    Those are recommended

Here are the minimum requirements. They are still steep.

They have said they got it to run on a i7 8700, which is the processor I have. I was going to use a 4070RTX that I just got.

Oh damn, I don't even meet the minimum. Hilarious.

I upgraded the PC to a 4070RTX. The game comes out in an hour. Let us see if it kills it.

    I have already pre-loaded.

The game looks fine with the default settings. Mine is running on low settings and it looks good.

I probably can boost the textures to high.

The game is bitching about my CPU being too slow, but it runs fine.

The low settings are not really low. This is one of those games that is obnoxious with the graphics.

If you are running at 1080p, it looks good.

This is one of those games that is annoying when you put in a new video card. It acts like your card is shit and you know it is not.

    Have you updated your drivers?

Yes. It has this budgeting thing in the settings that acts like my CPU is crap.

From what I seen on YouTube, you can max out the settings and it runs fine. I will try it after work.

The game just gives the impression that your hardware cannot handle it, but it does. It is kind of obnoxious.

It's like when you run an older game and it's like "We've detected your current settings and set it appropriately" and it sets it at low at 640x480. It's like "wtf is this 3060 RTX? If it ain't a Voodoo 3 then it's shit"

Honestly if this wasn't coming out in a window right before starfield I'd love to play it, watching a dude play it last night it looked really fast paced and fun with the various spells and movement.

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

It sounds like, as long as you are using 1080p, you can max out your settings if you have a 3000 series or 4000 series Nvidia video card.

Ignore the whole budgeting thing in the settings.

Edit: Yeah. The game runs fine. I just maxed my settings. Silly game.

Game runs great for me at 1440 on a 3080 Ti, with DLSS on Quality and everything on High/Ultra. Very pretty. I think this game stole has stolen the facial animations crown from Horizon Forbidden West, too.

I think if I still had my 1080GTX in the computer, it might have struggled with the game.

This is pretty much exactly the Spells of Duty I thought it would be, and I'm digging it so far.

played around an hour, I like it so far.
nice and quick movement and the spells feel different enough, though it is strange to have to reload my hands after a few shots.

runs well on my machine but given the specs it should.

When I bought this I was getting it price matched at EB (Australia’s version of GameStop) and the clerk had to ask me to spell it because she was tripped up by both the word immortals and Aveum. So super great on the memorable and snappy naming there. Looks fun tho

I kept calling it that Avernus game...knowing that wasn't quite right, but whenever I was talking about it with people it's all I could recall...I've looked it up countless times...

So far enjoying this well enough. It’s very B tier but it’s trying something and there’s a lot of effort and heart in it. Doesn’t always work, but it’s at least very pretty and colourful and feels like a development team actually enjoyed making it. Graphics are quite blurry on console at least but runs well and looks pleasant

It’s got good music and fun set pieces too.

I feel like this could do with a 30fps quality mode on consoles. The default 60fps is smooth but the pixelisation and blur is pretty pronounced

Also they refer to the conflict they’re in as the Everwar. I feel like that would’ve been a better name for the game. Or Immortals: Everwar

It’s definitely rough around the edges, and the plot and storytelling is pretty superficial, altho serviceable enough. The visuals and worlds are cool, but on console very blurry and pixelated. Could have done with a higher res 30fps mode

Combat is decent enough, not exactly gripping but fun enough in a turn your brain off and go kind of way. Like it’s got all the right pillars and ideas. I think they could’ve done better if they sold this at a cheaper price point. It’s good but not good enough for this time of year surrounded by so much AAA competition

The more I play it’s definitely not magic call of duty. There’s a lot of fairly big levels with an emphasis on going back to them when you’ve gotten various traversal and door opening abilities to find chests and resources etc. it’s still linear but the levels aren’t really similar to call of duty levels, more like god of war style things (not in quality but in terms of going back and finding stuff and revisiting previous areas after you’ve gotten abilities to reach things or like remove obstacles and get equipment and resources)

Played a fair bit of this and while it’s got rough edges I really disagree with gamespot giving it a 5/10. I usually don’t care about reviews but that bugs me, far too harsh

The more I play of this the more I’m enjoying it

the story gets really quite good, and the characters develop well and grow on you, criticising each other and complimenting each others flaws and strengths. This is a fantastic effort from a smaller studio and despite being rough around the edges it really shows a lot of passion and confidence. Lots of visually beautiful levels and some neat characters I didn’t expect

Levels are well designed too and decent fun to explore, and some great set pieces along the way

Finished this up. Really enjoyed the story! Was more confident and competent than it first gave the impression of being.

Hope they add a new game plus, I’ll come back and do hard mode if you can do new game plus in hard mode

My only criticism of the story is that
they never mention the kid orphans that got killed at the start. It’s always about Luna, neither Luna or Jack ever mention them again, to the point where it’s weird and feels like a script oversight or something got turned around during production. Like not one mention ever again, not even a vague comment about “the kids”
