So I might have been in the 7% range. I mean honestly I'm pretty horseshoe up my ass lucky with drops this year. I got two infinite lock box ones, the proto, and one of my r&d packs from the legendary bundle dropped that ship bundle too

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

How many pulls did it take to get a Daultless 2 anyway?

I want to say within a hundred. But I had previously pulled 50 on infinite boxes before the drop so I dunno if that has like a bad luck save or something?

But like full disclosure I spent 300 dollars to get the ship. Not all the money went into keys and not all the keys went to lock boxes, but I got the drop I didn't buy it on the AH like a smart person would. But I wanted to boost my lobi crystals because I'm fucking dumb lets just say

Someone did a deep dive on this a year or so ago, and the drop rate goes from 0.7% to 7% after the first 140 packs.

    Oh, is that all?
    Practically giving them away then.

Nah I know I'm a moby. I shouldn't buy shit, but there's something about the pretty that has me betwixt my nethers. Though compared to money I spent like on mlb the show, at least the ships in this game stick with me and even older ships are worthwhile for traits or consoles or funsies.

I did just run an TFO that was almost the perfect voyager run. There was a regular voyager, the pathfinder, my dauntless 2, if we had a regular dauntless and the terran version it would have been the run.

If Embracer's FY 22/23 annual general meeting is to be believed, Star Trek Online is one of their top 5 games... though... that top 5 is... interesting to say the least. So... I'd venture that as a whole, the game will be okay for a while. (The same can never really be said for any rank and file employees, unfortunately.)

    0jkohq4qyxaw.png

Was catching up on the things I didn't do and I saw this:

    ixusyo47w419.png

I don't think there's been a Star Trek series that hasn't had any kind of major time travel shenanigans even after this content released (2018), so species stumbling on examples of violations of the temporal prime directive and not being surprised really rings true.

Weird that it's the only Cryptic game on there, since Neverwinter makes quite a bit more.

Unless this is a metrics thing. Gearbox had Neverwinter making way more but quite a bit less per player, and it's a lot cheaper to run since Neverwinter's getting a lot more active development (they literally just got their second top to bottom progression overhaul in a year).

Maybe its like overall profit? I can't imagine the investment to money made on Trek is probably off the charts based on all the gambling wins popping off during play.

Then again maybe the trek license is pricey to maintain?

The one thing I like about STO's monetization vs other GaaS that I spend on is they do have a fair amount of systems baked into it such that it doesn't really feel like an absolute "waste" per dollar despite the RNG. Then there's dil to zen, so if you do want to go full free, you're not actually locked out of the paid things too. But yeah, spending in this game just doesn't elicit as much of a "why?" than in others.

I'm not sure what the infograph was measuring with that. Goat Sim 3 doesn't even have micros, and I only know of the blogo/crit response to Saints Row so I don't really have an idea of how well did either... Volition was shut down after all.

Also now I'm going to have to message somebody when the banner pops. I think I have a screenshot from the time I won the banner and saw my name... unless xbox deleted it for me, lol.

What? Surely you jest! Heavens to betsy!

I will say when I got my proto I actually missed that I'd gotten it and was only when I was checking the shit to sell off for parts I didn't realize I'd gotten the ship I was after. Humerously when I got my most recent infinite lockbox I got a message of "sell or keep" KEEP YOU FUCKING IDIOT!

And yeah STO definitely gives you stuff if you just play it. Like the seasonal giving you a lockbox ship if you wait. And that's not account bound right? Shit even if it is, that's still 1.5 bil credits even if its from last years lock boxes. That's how I'm going to get my cross point to finish this clicky build.

I am looking at the titan science destroyer because I'm a forever whore for the next big thing.

I think I've spent maybe... £20-30 over the course of shit when did the original Odyssey come out? 12 years? 13? and I've got an absolute murderers row of ships just from playing and refining.

and being able to buy zen for 85 dilithium back in the glory days

I paid money for the Armitage and Thunderchild together when the Armitage came out, and later for the Alita. Each time I did bump the zen purchase up a bit and get some random odds and ends but for the most part those ships are all I paid for.

If they hadn't made the legendary Akira yet another tactical flight deck cruiser with dual cannons I would have bought that.

Looking at a review of the Texas class, is still ridicously overpriced for a Fleet Saber that was on a show, but the console is nice. And they went through the extra detail of making the lights go red during combat:

    for ground?

If you did the last event and picked up that borg set the shield is quite decent and has an excellent 2x with the rifle

Or the Romulan Navy set isnt bad either for a consistent quest reward

if ye have a stash of winter event stuff the breen set from there is also excellent

yeah the new borg event stuff is pretty nice, and the aoe splosion for the 3 set is nice, and as a tac officer I like I can put down an aoe heal for a group.

New Mudd bundle dropping (which maybe speaks to the game not going away?) nothing jumped out as a must get, best ship in it is the tholian itomi and that's around 200-250 milly energy credits with the lobi sale on right now and the rest is not worth 150 dollars.

Yeah, Ground. I wasn't here for the last event... when I look at my second chance section I have "No Win Scenario", "Flagship Celebration", "A Good Day to Die", and "Voth Invictus".

Should note that I still play this on console, and I don't think we're have parity with PC other than seasonal events*. Just checked the news page and "Incursion" drops for us November 1st, is that what would have it?

ediT: I got the candle, but I know in the past we didn't get the same ships as PC did during events either.

Yeah, I've a ton of stuff to catch up episode-wise at this point so I'll be around for that. Running around inside my ship in Starfield and seeing my crew and stuff gave me the bug to play STO again and it just happened to line up with the Gamma Recruit thing being active again too, heh!

The deal with Mudd's Bundles, besides the price, is that any bundle they announce that does not have the Ateleth for Superweapon Ingenuity (Beam Overload extension trait, extension traits are very important for DPS), is going to have a lot of people complaining that it doesn't have it, since not having it account wide kinda sucks.

  • PreacherPreacher Registered User regular
Yeah I forgot a big part of a mudd ship is it does make it account wide

What kinds of ships/equipment can you safely destroy and reclaim later if you want?

I assume Zen store purchases, and probably event things?

Probably not lockbox rewards. Or Lobi things. Maybe account wide unlocks you can, and probably nothing else?

edit: and did I see right that if you upgrade a ship, it's upgraded for every character who has access to it?

Yes, zen stuff (with the possible exception of some EV suits), event rewards, even quest rewards as iirc there's no one time irreclaimable ones.

As a general rule, lockbox and lobi cannot be reclaimed, I think account wide stuff may well be as you effectively reclaim it on a second character but I am not 100% sure. Fleet Ships also cannot be reclaimed, but they are also single char unlocks, so the pattern holds.

Upgrades apply across your whole fleet yes, but only whole upgrades, eg 1x upgrades the ship, but you cannot then apply 1x on 2 different characters to make it an X2.

You can also drydock your old ships, which deletes any equipment on them but makes a note that you own the ship

    Snicketysnick on
    7qmGNt5.png
  • tastydonutstastydonuts Registered User regular
hmm... I thought dry-docking just stripped the loadout and dumped it into your inventory? I have a bunch of things drydocked and vaguely recall the "standard issue" things cluttering my inventory from time to time from swapping out gear between ships. I haven't had to drydock anything yet so this was many years ago :o

“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
  • SnicketysnickSnicketysnick The Greatest Hype Man in WesterosRegistered User regular
I'll be honest I've not drydocked anything in years so it may well be a case of inventory dump

just..maybe dont have anything important or expensive on there in case

Kind of confused as to how the account starship trait unlock thing works now (or doesn't?)

I just mastered the only ship that has Superior Area Denial on it, the Mirror Engle Strike Wing Escort... and I expected the trait on my KDF char in the dil store, but it's not there. There were two other traits though. Because the FED captain hit 65, that unlocks those ships for all my characters... but does that mean that I now have to master the ship on the KDF char?

I read that it was in the starship trait box, but it's not... is this crossfaction thing the reason why?

edit: I can't claim the engle on her... how do I get this trait? >\

edit: nevermind, I have to get the KDF to 65 so she can then grind the mastery herself. can't say I'm a fan of this... feature tbh. I don't want to fly a FED ship on her. :|

The trait used to be available for KDF via a box, afaik there are still boxes kicking around but I dont think they are usable anymore

The Engle has 2 sources, one a lockbox drop, which is not reclaimable, two as part of one of the Terran bundles, where it becomes an account unlock.

So, I think if you wanted SAD on a kdf character and didnt have the Terran bundle, you're out of luck if you've already claimed the lockbox version on a fed

    Which does kind of suck

so... I think I'm going to pretend this quest I just did on my KDF char just now was like... a holodeck recreation of the war because otherwise I just killed a ton of Fed ensigns and then beat up Geordi and the Challenger. Though I guess technically we were at war during Warzone? Idk... What was odd was parts of this mission felt familiar (Mars, Bringer of War) but it said I didn't do it previously?

Did they reshuffle the episodes like a lot? I did see a lot of under 100% completions on episodes on my other chars too. Like, I know I didn't finish up to Delta Quadrant on a few, but at the same time it's like... one or two missions in the old ones that should have been done.

STO’s plot’s been shuffled about enough that at this point I just assume it’s meant to be a side effect of the Temporal Cold War.

STO's Federation-Klingon war, because there's a lot of Federation-Klingon wars so got to be specific, lasts until the Dyson Sphere arc.

I finished the Delta Quadrant episode for the 65 on the KDF... and man... the Gaul fight really highlighted how negligent I was at gearing up her boffs... but it's done! Face-tanking dropping her turrets and all. One of the dude Vaadwaur-blasted and knocked three of them down at once... wish I captured it. Will have to hit the exchange to get rid of all their sub mark X , blue/green armor and shields... lol.

I resisted the urge to name the Engel "Heresy", but I'm going to do a few patrols to master it.

Then I have to decide on which carrier I want to like rally stick with. Torn between my Jem'Hadar Dreadnought Carrier/Orion Blackguard... I just want to spray bullets into the fray as my fighters do their thing and look cool! I kind of recall there being a Battlestar looking ship but I don't think it was a T6?

  • SnicketysnickSnicketysnick The Greatest Hype Man in WesterosRegistered User regular
Blackguard is probably one of the better choices, especially if you want to go the route of using the pet buffing engineering consoles.

The most battlestar looking ships (at least imo) are the KDF "vestas" and the Jem Vanguard carrier. The vanguard in particular is great if you want a huge mob of npcs on your side, but sadly it's much more sci weighted for consoles, which means you can't pack as many of those nice hanger buffs in

With Bridge Officers, the most important thing by far are the powers each of them has. I just followed this guide and don't have an issue:
    https://youtu.be/oIsnLXcPyDo?si=ye439NaSQo9jHN_9
Is on the long end, but it covers all budgets from the bottom all the way to Lockbox abilities.
