The whole augmented reality shtick some of these games are trying to me negates one of the points of gaming: escapism/refuge from the real world. Trying to forcibly mash them together just seems odd.

Almost as odd as the person next to you suddenly having a conversation with thin air and you have to look them over (while carefully avoiding eye contact) to realize that they just have a Bluetooth earpiece instead of crippling psychosis. Randomly having to play a game of "Are they a CEO or a murder hobo in a suit?" gets old.

Alternatively, it increases the refuge from the real world, because you don't need to stop gaming when walking from place to place

Can you imagine a game where when you cross the road during a redlight due to staring at your cellphone and you get run over by a truck your game character is automatically transferred to a magical world of cat people and cute goddesses? How cool would that be!

Just a quick note that just because a person has psychosis doesn't make them violent, no more than them being black or a man, and it's not any more okay to talk as if it does than it would in those other cases.

There's probably 3 japaneses games with that plot and 3 chineses games that immitate them but go even further with it. problem for thoses interested in it is that all 6 games are of courses just generic gambling mobile phone games.

These days those cat people are just as likely planning to stab you in the back and possibly eat you, while the cute goddesses are probably crazy, and not in the funny way.
