It was too hot most of the year to paint so I did some deathmarks and my tyranids over my vacation
Masked all the tanks and separate doors to paint some white markings. Check.

On of my club mates recently went off on a rant about how much he hates big hat Chaos Dwarves in the group chat, so I decided to upgrade my Frostgrave Captain model for our next campaign game.
A 3D print because I had a look at the cost of the proper old GW models and they were too much joke money for just trolling a mate.

Can't decide on the metal colour for the Ultramarines.
Gold, brass, bronze?
Sigh.
Like, Ultras have "gold". It's kinda their thing. But it's very contrasting to the blue, naturally, and maybe it pops too much? Maybe I'm just a chicken?
So bronze? Like I've got those proacryl bronze and light bronze and it's just lovely looking paint. But is it too boring?
Etc.
Crippling indecision.

curse you! I was already thinking about using a bight silver for veteran shoulders instead of white! More Options to think about!
Another option for the gold/bronze would be generally bronze, but vexillas, eagles decorations and generally HQs/invivtarii,/Elites getting more gold...
The black and white stripe from rogue trader is now the canon marking for Ultramarine Inductii which are basically proto-tactical squads 40k style. If I get around to a squad of them the'y get that.
My Beakies have only silver on them, as they have no trim. black weapon casings though instead of all metal. It's what i did for the test model more or less.
The older marks have me stumped with all their bolted trim.
I experimented with bright silver a bit, too. But the one that actually looked good, Vallejo Metal Colour Chrome, is super annoying to apply with a brush. Like they're all not that fantastic for brushwork in my opinion but Chrome is just way to fluid while not covering well.
Yellow will probably show up on weapon markings and banners, a bit like this:
(sidenote: How good is that all blue look on those MK7 marines, too?!)
I also put some white marking on some vehicles and definitely feel a little regret that I might have overdone it:
edit: But I'm really coming around to the all blue/gunmetal/white look for the armour. Meaning also all the trim on the older marks silver instead of another colour. Keeping gold for bannertops and such.
Edit again:
I think I like the bronze on the shoulder trim too much?:

Sergeant Slice of the Bladeguard reporting for duty:
I need help here though; what to do with his tilting plate? It’s not meant to be blank but I don’t particularly feel like quartering red and yellow again.
Keep it white and put a decal or freehand on as personal heraldry? I like it how it looks right now in white
Yellow red quarters would get lost and maybe also too busy on the already quartered model.

Could work, yeah. Just need some heraldic transfers or something.
FWIW I’m planning to make their swords prismatic style, à la Louise Sugden’s 30 second tutorial.
Doesn't even need to be anything complicated on the shield I think. Simple geometric pattern or a sword or skull would probably work. I would go for black or blue on white. Like grey knight terminators or captain messinius

Id paint it purple like the cloak and do some gold heraldry.
caution stripes on the guns I think? Not sure if paint is very desaturated or if your phone/camera has auto-white balanced the yellow away because of all the blue

I love caution stripes on guns.

Late night picture, yeah, the white balance is probably off and the screen turns less blue so probably very shifted
Another try at the photo thing.
It's averland sunset, so still desaturated, but maybe a bit closer to reality

Gotta hit those base rims with another coat I see.
They're looking rad. And I do want to say that Idig the hazard stripes on the rotor cannon casings, just maybe push it to brighter like you have for the tilt plates (Which I love btw).
The shields are milliput pressmolds from shields that I got from shapeways, because shapeways fucked up the prints so badly that they weren't really usable by themselves.
You can get the same ones in way better quality for example from Archie's Forge.
Edit: moar yellow!

So I've been learning solid 3D modeling and I designed a painting handle with modular tops and a few other accessories. I'm really happy with it:
My wife spotted one printing when it was about 2/3 done.
Her: "Are you printing stuff to put in your butt?"
Last night, sitting on the sofa only wearing shorts while working on the DRG miniatures, I needed more Vallejo Liquid Metal Silver. I opened up the bottle and the cap slipped from my right hand. My left instinctively went over to try and grab the cap, as my brain sent the message "Do not move the arm holding the pot of paint", resulting in a lurching forward and backwards that caused half the bottle of paint to shoot up into the air.
I got very lucky that 95% of what spilled landed on me, and the 5% all landed on the sofa cover, which cleaned up with alcohol. Looking like a rejected Bond model who was halfway through makeup when I found out I wasn't needed for filming that day, I went to the downstairs bathroom with a bottle of alcohol and some paper towels to clean myself off. A few minutes later, I started to feel very dizzy as I was cleaning myself up, and I realized that the combination of "small, interior bathroom" and "evaporating alcohol fumes" wasn't the best plan. Walking out of the room, I almost immediately felt better.
I managed to get the paint all over both hands, high up on right arm, all over my chest, right thigh, right calf, and somehow down the back of my leg to my foot.
I am very lucky, though, in that not a drop got on the tray full of models I had finished painting. They are now safely on a shelf, away from the 4 dwarves I have left to complete the set.

Pettiness, spite, and being straight up miserly.
Respect. Game recognize game.
Also Fabelzel does just some incredible work.

somewhere caught between something like these two
This is for 'Heresy, right? Beakies?
That era of Ultras, to me, looks "right" with blue/white/silver.
There is, of course, the other option...

I did another kitbashing video, this time chasing those lucrative AT-43 clicks
I never finish anything.
Partially because I tend to get carried away. Tonight with yellow. Really overdid it.
The more I look at it the less I like it
Too much? Would just the shoulders work better?

I think it looks good, just needs a bit of pin washing and highlighting to give it depth.

You're saying you overdid the...yellow? I'm having trouble identifying any yellow in the entire photo.
