My corpo farmer was modeled after Martin Shkreli. Every time I fulfilled a request I gifted the recipient wads of clay until I could ensure that he was hated and alone when all the bundles were complete and he canonically walked into the sea with his pockets full of rocks.

I like how if you find someone you like in Gleaner Heights and they're already married you can sneak around and dig in trash cans to find (or fake) proof their spouse is cheating to get them to divorce

My current (and apparently longest running) play through I went full villain, named my farm Heartbreak Farm, and am marrying, divorcing, and mind wiping everyone except for whoever I decide is last (probably Sam?). It's kind of fun to play it this way at this point, because ultimately there's no consequences and to be honest I prefer the community center placement for the movie theater and it drives me nuts that Clint goes and spends all of Friday dicking around at the community center, plus I can buy auto petters for my army of pigs. It's one of the few games where making the bad choice doesn't actually have any gameplay or personal relationship consequences long term, so I can do it without feeling extremely guilty. Eventually I want to buy it for PC and then mod it, and that'll be a fun and novel playthrough, but for now on the Switch this is the best thing I've got to change it up after however many hundreds of hours.

    Movie theatre??

Spoiler for post-community center stuff in case someone in the farming sim game thread doesn't want spoilers on an old game
once you complete the community center, or paying Joja, you get the option for 'the last bundle', which is rare items like a prismatic shard, or a ton of money, 500k I think?, to turn either Joja's abandoned building or the former community center into a movie theater, where you can take residents to see movies and give them movie snacks to increase friendship, as well as a crane game that is intermittently available and has some limited items in it. The movie changes every season, and there's a few years worth of different movies, I think 2 years worth but don't quote me on that, including a Winter Veil movie, a nature documentary, an experimental film, a kids movie, a spaghetti western, other things I can't remember

the main limitation with community center route is that you need a rainy day or lightning storm to make the last bundle available, so if you finish the community center in winter you may have to wait a while to see the cut scene, and therefore might not know it is an option

Has that been in the game since launch? Mad that this is the first time I've ever heard of it.

(Yes I have somehow never completed the community centre, in 8 years)

  • TofystedethTofystedeth Registered User regular
No it was in one of later patches. I've never actually done it myself despite having finished the community center several times cause I always burn out about fall 2.

Apparently introduced with 1.4 in November 2019, along with tailoring, fish ponds, and
"Junimo Kart has been completely redone and is now actually fun" which I find very debatable

This just reminded me I haven't logged in to Palia in like, a month. . . Which I think is fine, but at first I was logging a lot of hours but got to a certain point where I just lost interest.

The worldbuilding of Portia is one of favorite parts. You're a mercenary handyperson who plumbs the depths of the forbidden past for long-lost tech and resources while fending off horrible mounters all so that your neighbor can have a nifty new shelf.

Why does your neighbor want a horribly mounted shelf?

I started Coral Islands (hadn't played or seen anything about it before) and it's off to a pretty great start. Feels good to play, animations are clean as hell, art's great. My only "complaint" is that it's... very Stardew Valley. Outright copying some concepts without any changes whatsoever. But it doesn't bother me that much, and it's not like everything is the same.

Stardew Valley copied a lot itself.

One of my favorite things in CI is the TV programs, they're very in the vein of the original DS friends of mineral town in their cheesiness. It makes me angry it doesn't auto choose your tool tho; once they gave me that in Fae Farm i never wanna go back

Was it a violet? Apparently most characters in the game have negative reactions from violets for some reason

She actually complained about the bouquet that I gave as part of the quest in the beginning of the game. And then later I tried another flower since I don't really have anything to lose yet anyway, and she was just as unhappy. Wasn't a violet and both are showing up on her "Hates" list. I have learned my lesson.

I then discovered that she likes potatoes.

I married Shane, but he was less interesting once he became happy.

If I do it again I might go for Harvey, because he reminds me a lot of Mike Wozniak

Looked at the roster of dating candidates for Coral Island, and I see a silver haired guy. One of my weaknesses.

Turns out in the trailer he’s a merman… That’s TWO of my weaknesses.

there's a land based incredibly hot silver haired guy that's a construction worker in game that, despite having a name and journal entry, is only on the island for like three days and then vanishes completely

My current opinion of Coral Island is that it's very good, but I think the console versions might've needed a bit more time in the oven. I've noticed some bugs and performance issues that don't seem to be in the PC release. Still playable, hopefully stuff gets fixed before too long, but I'd recommend playing the PC version right now if it's an option.

Definitely, there's even at least a few quests that still end in a big WIP

Anyone ever pay the Yonder Chronicles? I tried it, but while it seemed to have an expansive and beautiful mmo sized world to explore, the rest of it seemed unfinished and uninspired. The farming was just collecting the animals of the world which considered of only two models that were palette swapped.

Plus there was this bizarre thing where the camera seemed locked to the heads of NPCs so when you were talking with them resulted in it rocking with every motion they made.
