Grabbed a nice pile of games. Project Wingman, Bug Fables, a couple of nice cheapies and also the Etrian Odyssey collection, now down to almost a 3-for-1 deal.
...Hm. Had lots of Grim Dawn on the mind lately tho. And I've still got a lot of work to do on the Desynced wiki. And I'm trying to make progress in Super Robot Wars 30...

This is just, Steam Thread Concentrate. Liquid decision fatigue all distilled in one post.
I was todays years old when I found out that the B-17 Flying Fortress devs are doing remake/update of the classic, new game as well as a multiplayer VR take on the game.
I have no VR setup but that last one sounds like a nice excuse.
They're still quiet-ish on the games though, so who knows how they're faring, specially in these cancel/firing-happy days.
Is Redfall even on the radar as a nominee anymore? I haven't heard of any updates to fix the jank.
Also I hope that Starfield doesn't overwhelm BG3 in nominations.
I'd have to go back and check but even though I didn't play any current-year games, this was the best year for gaming ever. Like it even beats out - what was it - 2003?
Having played neither of them, I have heard mixed things about Starfield since release and I have heard nothing but gushing praise for BG3 since release.
Based on that alone, I'm expecting BG3 to get the nod.

No, Redfall received some minor updates but it's practically abandonware at this point.
Code Vein was very fun once I figured out the game is intended for you to have one of the partner NPCs with you and not run solo.
Tales of Arise and Scarlet Nexus I have nothing good to say about.
Code Vein was a good game with some of the worst map design I've ever seen in a game, in a very specific way that was so terrible it lead me to a revelation about why the map design in the Dark Souls games is so good.

Huh, I thought the map designs were perfectly cromulent.

It didn't really bother me until I had to try and navigate a version of Anor Londo constructed by a random number generator and decorated by 3.5 near-identical textures. There was a mini-map right there on screen and I couldn't figure out where the hell I was or where I was meant to go.

I was trying to think of if I'd played any 2023 games so I looked up this year and the answer is yes, but nothing that would go for Steam awards: The new Legend of Zelda, Pikmin, and Theatrhythm games, all on the Switch. And then I got FFXVI for my birthday but even the demo amount I played of that is on the PS5. I have nothing in my Steam library nor anything on my consoles that both came out this year and came out on Steam/PC.
Welp!

Yeah, pretty much all my gaming has been on PS5 this year. If you can vote for a game you don't own on Steam, BG3 will probably get a bunch of votes from me. It's a shame Alan Wake 2 isn't on (and probably won't come to) Steam, because that's easily my GOTY so far, even halfway through BG3.

Yeah the White Palace is definitely a make or break moment for a lot of Code Vein players. Not helped by the difficulty spike.

It is actually $17.50 on steam right now, which means its probably dead as disco. You don’t really see that kind of deep discounts on games 7 months old.
I have been tempted to get it just to try at that price. From what I have heard the gameplay feels pretty decent but the game is unfinished. Not like something like Jedi Survivor that that was a perfectly competent game but unoptimized and technically unpolished, or even Cyberpunk’s original release that had plenty of content but rough gameplay as well as having similar problems to Jedi Survivor, but literally unfinished, like something you would play at an E3 demo kiosk. Like there are literally sections of the map that just don’t have anything in them unfinished.

Part of the last update was to fix some of that.
God it was baffling going through one of those areas. First I thought it was just to up the creepy factor, but nope, game is just too broken it literally has no spawns in some areas.
I watched the youtube of the story and I loved what they had there, it just didn't translate into the game itself.
Just sad all around and not how I want Arkane--or the puppet using Arkane as a skin--to be remembered.
-Loki- Be sure to buy Tales of Berseria aswell if you haven't already.
Love its cast of edgy outsiders. They don't play by the rules.
Tales of Berseria is probably my favorite JRPG for characters alone. I like every major character in it, especially all the playable ones, and the motivations of the antagonists made sense for their life experiences even if I still needed to punch them in the face so they'd stop.

Okay one more mention of Grim Dawn before I go back to nap.
I remember a few traders had what looked like some unique armor sets. Are these more for buying with your current character and stuffing into shared stash for a later run? A catch-up mechanism if I haven't been spending my earned gold?

I wouldn't worry about that, as I think BG3 has more usual CCUs than Starfield and better overall review % from actual users. A large number of people playing Starfield did so on gamepass, which I believe doesn't interact with steam at all. Like looking at steam, the last 30 days Starfield has only managed to get a whopping 55% positive in terms of reviews. BG3 by comparison is on 98%. Lessons can be learned etc etc.
Also RE4 was on sale and I know the DLC has the laser fence. I said "No RE4 remake until the laser fence was put back in" and they did so.
I can't play anything until I get either a new PC, get my wife a new tablet and reclaim my laptop, or get a steam deck. I also definitely don't want to buy anything until I finish Solasta and I'm saving for Rogue Trader.

So yes obviously I bought Mass Effect LE.
lol, I was told I couldn't buy Phantom Liberty and we need to tighten our budget even more now because any day now my wife might be out of a job for a while, and we just had a plumber come do some shit yesterday.
The games I have picked up so far during this Steam Autumn Sale:
-- Celeste
-- Mass Effect Legendary Edition
-- Star Control I & II
-- X-Com: UFO Defense
A nice little grouping for $20
Depending on preference it may be worth looking at Ur Quan Masters, the free (relatively) modern remake of Star Control 2. IIRC it started as a fan project but Reiche and Ford work on it officially now and are making an SC2 sequel.
So a couple of things/updates on that
Paul Reiche and Ken Ford(Fred Ford's brother) bothretired from the industry in September, but Fred Ford and Dan Gerstein(former director at Toys for Bob) continue heading development.
The official name of the series is now Free Stars, with Free Stars: The Ur-Quan Masters the new permanent name for SC2 (it's also getting a Steam Page), and Free Stars: Children of Infinity is the official name for the sequel.
Also, race preview from their dev streams

Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam is no different than getting it on GOG, right? I kind of want the easier Deck functionality.
