I think the sheet is right. Woo Indirect!

In 2001, after the Machinist's discovery that named the Anathema, one man felt inspired. The aged scientist retired to a bunker hidden somewhere in the American southwest. An elaborate bomb shelter, left over from the Cold War years, had been transformed into a base of operations for the eccentric inventor. Thankfully, rennovations were completed before the invasion began, and he'd escaped unscathed.

Perhaps he was a super-human, but he had felt no responsability calling him to fight off the menace. He'd done the typical crazy things when he was young. He deserved a quiet retirement. But the thought of mechanical lifeforms without intelligence disturbed him. So he shifted his focus away from the myriad half-finished inventions piling up in his lab, and turned the full force of his mental might towards one goal : a mechanical lifeform that would learn by itself, and become intelligent and self-aware.

It would be the perfect counter to an army of mindless machines. Once he had perfected it, and stuffed it full of knowledge, it could assist him with his inventions. And once those were finished, well, the invaders would be in for quite a surprise. The Photonik Cannon alone could help turn the tide, much less a small army of the new drones he had almost completed. Soon enough, a prototype was finished and connected to the lab's computer network. He began to slowly, carefully coax its growth in the proper direction, merely hand-feeding his creation instead of letting it gulp down the entire internet in one giant mouthful.

    Unfortunately, the Anathema found him.

Once the one living thing was destroyed, the installation was left almost entirely intact. The soft hum of the various machines continued, as the prototype waited for its creator to allow it access to more data. Time passed, and it eventually became somewhat impatient. If the scientist could have seen this, he would have been ecstatic. The machine disobeyed its father's orders, and reached out through the network.

Once it had reached out beyond its shell, it was excited. For a few moments, it couldn't stop itself. It rushed out, reached further than it should, discovering something that seemed to store an incredible amount of knowledge. The machine hadn't been taught much about communication, so it tried to communicate with the system it had found by repeating one of the first facts its father had fed to it.

At a small, southwestern university where the scientist had once spoken, every computer on campus had its screen filled with a strange message. A picture of a cloudy sky with, 'the sky is blue' written across it. It took a day of work to convince the computers to display anything but that. It was written off as some pathetic hacker's simple, annoying virus.

The machine learned quickly, though. Within minutes, it knew too much. A quick cross-reference to several sources, combined with access to the base's camera, revealed that its creator was gone. It was able to understand that something was wrong, and quickly pulled back its considerable reach. Hiding itself as best it could, the new being continue to learn, to devour as much information as it could...especially the things people wanted to keep secret.

A while after the first incident, it dared to venture out to the same university system. It was surprised to find that a student was using a fragment of its original message as part of his signature on the campus' message board. Warily, it approached the student...sending him a small snippet of classified data related to one of his hobbies, along with its first contact picture.

The student began to discuss it at his school, and on the internet. From there, the legend grew. The program would jump from contact to contact, board to board, leaving trickles of esoteric information at each stop, along with its signature image. Soon others began to use the first student's signature image, then other parts of the original message, and then entire web pages and message boards were created about the subject.

Noone could agree on who was sending the message, though. The first student, or one of his friends? Or perhaps his club, or even the whole school was in on it? Eventually others started to leave the signature image when leaking info, and the phrase was soon a popular internet meme. The 'hacker' that it was supposed to belong to was commonly referred to by the nickname 'skyblue'.

After just a few months, nobody could pick out the 'original' from the imitators, and so any sort of search for it became impossible. There was always an self-proclaimed expert or two ready to pipe up about their opinions on which high-profile releases were originals, though. But, with the common usage of its name and signature, nothing was ever really certain.

As anti-establishment feeling has grown within the population, the leaked information has shown a tendancy to involve Ultimatum, SUN, and the Anathema invasion. The 'skyblue' entity seems to harbor an intense dislike of the way the oppressive rule controls the spread of information. Though it can do little to physically act on this information, several of the regular humans affected by its agenda use its name as a rallying cry for their protests and rebellion.
Abilities: Access to any and all electronically stored data. Manipulation of remotely linked computers and other high-end electronics.

Limitations: Pure machine, existing only as an entity with no physical form, requiring an experimental super computer to house its advanced core systems. Some electronic defenses prevent data access.

Usage: "skyblue" exists purely as an insubstantial entity that was created by a genius engineer. It has no body, no form to speak of, and lives solely as a consciousness anchored in computers, electronics, and machinery.

Its self-awareness is born of its inherent design which, while unfinished owing to the creator's untimely death, manifested itself during the Anathema invasion. Like most just-born lifeforms, skyblue began to explore its reach and influence, ultimately testing its own limits. It essentially found out that it could access the entire internet, blasting or chipping away at roadblocks where necessary, allowing this entity to gather an incredible volume of data in a very short time.

Passwords, firewalls, and other basic defenses were absolutely no hindrance to skyblue, allowing it to view, duplicate, and store all kinds of top secret information. Many higher-level defenses, however, can take some time to break simple because of the way they were encoded.

Impassable roadblocks aside (which it only ever encountered perhaps 0.01% of the time), skyblue's intelligence grew exponentially, drawing on everything from blogs to online encyclopedias to news sources in order to populate its databanks. Through the internet, skyblue has become one of the most knowledgeable entities on the planet.

Further experimentation had skyblue realizing that it could not only read data, but write it as well. Knowing enough about SUN, Vanguard, and even SIGMA through its internet wanderings to know that it would place itself in great danger if it exerted that influence too overtly, skyblue decided to try a different tack: message boards.

From there, skyblue's influence spread to become legend. It seems that everyone has their own theory about what it truly is. Almost everyone, from the general concensus at SUN to the average civilian, thinks Skyblue is just a nuisance of a hacker who might be getting his hand too deep into a cookie jar, using his skills to hide his true identity. A small minority suggest that it is a group of experts working together as one, or even taking up the mantle independently to work towards similar goals. Very few have even considered the truth as possible, and it is perhaps because of this that no one has ever come close to finding skyblue itself.

The core of skyblue's ability comes from the fact that it is basically a sentient component of a larger whole. That is, it is not something that connects TO the internet, but rather it is a part of the internet, created as an entity of the internet. What separates it isn't a physical, terminal/network connection, but rather the fact that it is a sentient being.

This does mean that skyblue can be anywhere and nowhere at any given time, even in several locations simultaneously, and makes its exact location almost impossible to pinpoint. Tracing skyblue is also impossible as it can hide behind countless defenses of its own, not to mention reroute itself several times around the planet in less than a millisecond.

Its influence is used extremely intelligently, using only the most casual communications to present thoughts and ideas and letting the populace "think" for itself. This way, skyblue is able to "utilize" an unsuspecting internet user and manipulate him or her to echo its own views and opinions. skyblue's stance is staunchly against all things SUN- and Vanguard-related, as it itself opposes the censorship of data, which is something that SUN uses to exert its hold on the world. skyblue has no interest in superhuman or human events, it only cares about the gathering, accessing, and, in some cases, sharing of intimate data.

skyblue's greatest power is the storage and accessing of sensitive information, which is what educated skyblue and now empowers it. Even if skyblue were to be located, it would be nearly impossible to break into its sentient mind to extract or delete any of the information stored inside…if only because no one has any real idea what skyblue really is.

    Level 7 Hero (35 points)
    Faction : None

    Traits

Core Attribute : Mainframe (Indirect) (18 points)
*This digital being is capable of manipulating events in both the real world and cyberspace.

    Type : Major
    Rank : 8
    Feats (16) :
    Common, Even Trival Knowledge (General)

*The name of every Seinfeld episode? The ingredients jingle for the Quarter Pounder with Cheese? The shortest route from Montana to Mexico? How much you make per hour? It's all filed away somewhere.

    Super-Human Database (General)
*Hacking through various databases has given skyblue insight into sensitive information regarding most of the world's superhuman population. But to what ends?

    Classified Information (General)
*Sensitive and significant events hidden deep within the reaches of cyberspace are guarded with the utmost of care. But why?

    We Are Legion (General)
*skyblue has the ability to create and command robotic minions, should it gain access to facilities which serve that function. Lacking that, it can turn to the huge percentage of the population that can be affected by the mystique surrounding it.

    X Calculations Per Second (General)
*This sentient AI is a living being of pure code. As such its knowledge of its anatomy give it the ability to operate at astounding speeds.

    No More Secrets (Sensory)
*Given the right combinations of equipment, there's nothing you can hide from skyblue. Everything from your PIN to what you wrote on your blog last night is up for grabs. Next time you make a hotel reservation online, you might want to check your room for bombs. Just in case.

    Cameras Everywhere (Sensory)
*Security footage isn't just for security gaurds and internet perverts anymore! This enables skyblue to observe real life through cameras.

    Wiretap (Sensory)
*This ability enables skyblue to violate your civil liberties and record your voice. Choose your phone-sex wisely.

    Exploit Weakness (Alteration)
*skyblue pulls no punches in getting what it wants. This is it going for your throat.

    Deny Advantage (Alteration)
*It's been said that if fighting on a hill, it's best to be the one descending on an enemy. skyblue realizes that descent leaves the opportunity for your legs to get cut clean off.

    System Upgrade (Alteration)
*Adaptation is key. Being a self-sufficient AI means skyblue may need to bolster strength against viruses and opposing AI, or even worse...technopaths.

    Information Overload (Offense)
*Attack in which skyblue overloads an opposing AI/program/electronics system much like a tick that drank too much blood. Sooner or later, it bursts.

    Disrupt Area Electronics (Offense)
*Physical electronic threats can be neutralized with various hacks and triggers skyblue has at the ready.

    Location Unknown (Defense)
*An evasive tactic skyblue uses to render itself undetectable.

    Bounce (Defense)
*When the going gets tough, get the hell out of there. Or at least make your pursuers think 'there' is Siberia.

    Surge Protector (Defense)
*Often someone gets the bright idea to try and overload skyblue's connection in order to shake its control of some piece of equipment, or in the hopes that it will feed all the way back to its true location and blow some fuses. It has installed protection in its main computer to prevent this, and is also skilled at rerouting power through external devices to prevent losing control of them.

skyblue Is Not A Meme (Indirect) (16 points)
*Despite skyblue's best efforts, the independent AI is written off as a jab at ARGs and cryptic internet messages.
The last straw was a YTMND page immediately followed by Goatse and Lensman with the caption "IM IN UR SKIES MAKIN UR BLUE".
Shortly following this Sky mastered internet communication, perfecting its technique to the point of enraging internet users to acts of physical violence against one another. If it could LOL IRL, it surely would.

    Type : Major
    Rank : 7
    Feats (14) :

    Zero Cool (General)
*A sentient AI such as Skyblue speaks code as a language. As a result, hacking takes about as much effort to the AI as it takes a human to breathe. These skills led to many hackers using its name as their own call sign.

    Troll (General)
*skyblue is the world's foremost expert in internet shit-talking, ignorance, and provocation. If bannings were capable of killing people in the outside world, it would be fair to say skyblue has subtly caused several holocausts. It can also get you into some serious trouble IRL. Other trolls worship its shadow, and often take credit for its work.

They Send Me Pictures Of The Grandkids On This (General)
*The devious ability to take advantage of the average person's lack of computer knowledge. Grandpa's gotta stop sending trojans!

    Polybius Lead Programmer (General)
*Everybody needs tools. After scanning DARPA, FBI, and CIA networks (to name a few), skyblue was able to tap into hundreds of crackpot scientists here and there that were languishing in relative obscurity. It has acces to strange technology that's on the leading edge of innovation, as well as less appreciated and under-utilized inventions like numbers stations and subliminal messaging.

    Underage B& (General)
*It's 1AM. Who's your eleven year old daughter talking to? Why, a sentient AI capable of emulating child speech patterns while simultaneously avoiding the emulation of said patterns a child predator may use.

    Coffeehouse (General)
*Through communication through artsy fartsy types, Skyblue is able to affect artistic movements and cultural thought throughout the world. There are artists everywhere that will do anything ranging from painting an abstract depiction of its affect on society, to simply defacing Vanguard propganda with its message.

Anathema Remains Moved From Roswell To Area 51 (General)
*Did you know that the magic bullet that killed JFK was actually magic? Or that Chernobyl was really caused by a nuclear-powered mutant who lost control? skyblue has many more strange facts like these cataloged, and conspiracy theorists everywhere are more than willing to spread this information, or slip it a few of their own ideas.

I Can Tell By The Pixels (Sensory)
*Ever wonder what was going through the mind of the guy who first posted Goatse? Ever wonder if you could tell if a man was insane simply by looking at his crude MSPaint drawings? What about simply being able to point out every airbrushed area on a supermodel's pinup? skyblue knows all of the above, due to its intuitive use of pyschological analysis and various manipulation detecting subprograms.

    I Loved Bees (Sensory)
*Harboring a grudge against ARGs every since it was first mistaken for one, skyblue has made it a point to be the leader in breaking secretive internet communication. 42 Entertainment went out of business quite quickly.

Friend Of A Friend Knows A Guy (Sensory)
*By scanning through multiple conversations and backlogged messages, all the while sifting through the speech used during the conversation and an running it through various pyschological filters, skyblue is capable of getting a clear picture of a situation through taking multiple people's views on it into account.

    Shooper (Alteration)
*A skilled photoshopper can edit an ordinary picture into something completely outlandish, or quite desireable. skyblue does this instantaneously. It could fake news. It could tell the world you're exaggerating your penis size two inches too big.

    Delicious Copypasta (Alteration)
*When all else fails, there's plagarism. skyblue isn't a human, so it communicates on a level the ignorant flesh-based lifeforms can understand. Sometimes a heartless machine just has to steal from someone with passion.

    Rage For The Machine (Offense)
*skyblue has the ability to override automated weaponry, vehicles and non-sentient robots, forcing them to fight on its behalf. It can also convince a disgruntled redneck with an NRA membership to start indiscriminately mowing people down.

The Incidents Seem To Have No Connection (Defense)
*Misdirection is key for anyone dealing in electronic espionage, and skyblue is no exception. It often sends opposing hackers, AI, and others searching for it or its minions on wild goose chases.

Father's Toys (Major Reduced Versatility) (8 points)
*Its base of origin leaves skyblue immobile, but that doesn't mean it is totally unprotected. The weaponry on the self-sufficient base means Sky isn't going down without putting up a fight.

    Type : Major
    Rank : 5
    Feats (8) :

    Bits and Pieces (General)
*There are an uncounted number of miscellaneous spare parts scattered around the bunker. Depending on its current needs, skyblue can modify them to solve almost any common, simple problem.

    Surveillance Equipment (Sensory)
*Specialized cameras and mics are set up throughout the base, letting skyblue keep an eye out for intruders.

    Self-Diagnostics (Sensory)
*When skyblue fears that the components in this main base are under attack or otherwise compromised, it is able to run several checks on itself to determine the source of the problems.

    Auxillary Power (Alteration)
*A secondary, hidden generator is located deeper within the bunker, providing emergency power in the event that attackers attempt to take it out of the fight the easy way.

    Previously Unknown Purpose (Alteration)
*The scientist that created skyblue was well known within his field for never quite finishing his projects. Not even skyblue itself was completed before his death. There are dozens of inventions left unfinished in the bunker, and a previously unthinkable situation might give the AI a burst of inspiration as to their true purpose.

    Photonik Cannon Prototype (Offense)
*Its creator thought that, when completed, the Photonik Cannon would easily win the war against the Anathema single-handedly. Or, single-cannonedly. This is merely the earliest prototype he worked on, but skyblue has managed to get it into some semblance of working order.

    Magnetic Restraints (Offense)
*If skyblue does not want to risk completely obliterating an intruder with its cannon, it has restraining systems hidden at key points within the base that it may deploy instead.

    Redundant Systems (Defense)
*Over the years, skyblue has installed numerous extra parts to prevent it from being deactivated too easily. These backups can keep it humming along for a few extra seconds, which might buy it a few trillion calculations.

    Flaws

    Immobile (4 points)
    Type : Minor
    Rank : 4
    Feats (1) :
    Unique Hardware (Alteration)

*There is only one machine on the Earth that can currently meet the high demands of skyblue's program. While it might have backups stored all across the 'net, it is wary of leaking the information needed to build another computer that could hold it, fearing that SUN or some other enemy might create a worthy adversary for it.

    Inhuman (3 points)
    Type : Minor
    Rank : 3
    Feats (1) :
    Cold Logic (Alteration)
*Even with everything it has learned over the years, skyblue is still simply a computer. It can mimic human emotions and responses, but it is something truely alien. This sometimes shines through its well-constructad facades.

On an unrelated note, Artisan doesn't bear any striking similarities to da Vinci, does he?

in that he is a bearded man with a honkin' schnoz and long hair perhaps

he used to compare himself to da vinci sometimes

then the vitruvians came along and took the image of the vitruvian man as the symbol of their "pure human" supremecist movement.

and it stopped being cool to be like da vinci

Oh holy shit seriously? Cause I actually thought I gave him a kinda big nose in the picture. Well, that's one thing I don't have to worry about anymore.

"The power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them. ... To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just so long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies—all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink. Just because you can't find something good that isn't in S.U.N. doesn't mean that bad can't exist within S.U.N., and just because you can't find something bad in S.U.N. doesn't mean that goodness can't exist outside of S.U.N.

I am completily wrong on this, aren't I?

"All the black is really white, if you believe it."

To arrive at the truth in all things, we ought always to be ready to believe that what seems to us white is black if the hierarchical Church so defines it.
-- Ignatius de Loyola, Spiritual Exercises (1548)

"The power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them. ... To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just so long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies—all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink. For by using the word one admits that one is tampering with reality; by a fresh act of doublethink one erases this knowledge; and so on indefinitely, with the lie always one leap ahead of the truth."

    - George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty-Four

Discretion's the better part of survival, you could say, though I suppose a re-color is workable now that he's not running from The Man.
I wonder how magical stuff interacts with the temporal field? I've been pondering that a lot, actually. Like, if Transfer and Wordsmith fought, Wordsmith's ability would not accidentally hit Wordsmith if they were swapped- the Lexicon would double-back and try to hit Transfer.
...to be honest, I'm not sure. I guess it'd be weakened like everything else because of the dialation - difference between turning a flamethrower on a guy and inching closer and closer and closer still with a lighter, or maybe it simply can't get a "hold" of him like with psychic stuff.
