Is it the players vote, and then the leader rights a story that follows the votes?
Say 3 people vote for a guy to die and 2 people vote to save another guy, the stroy would be like "And then [generic name] was struck by a bolt of shrapnel that was deflected off of [generic name#2]'s helmet.
Typically, every day has a vote for who gets executed and removed from the game. Every player gets a vote.
Use wikipedia and search for Mafia (the game), it's essentially that with different rules set forth by the moderators of each game.
I might suggest you look at the first page of Thorgot's phalla sign up thread. In his first or second post he's got links to past games. These games will show you common rule sets and should help answer some questions you have.
