Reuters:
Henry Kissinger, American diplomat and Nobel winner, dead at 100

Nov 29 (Reuters) - Henry Kissinger, a controversial Nobel Peace Prize winner and diplomatic powerhouse whose service under two presidents left an indelible mark on U.S. foreign policy, died on Wednesday at age 100, according to his geopolitical consulting firm Kissinger Associates Inc.

Kissinger died at his home in Connecticut, Kissinger Associates said.

Well, is a shame that Bourdain didn't lived to see it. The end of a (terrible) age and so on.

Truly one of history's greatest monsters.

It is an indictment of America and its political establishment that he was lauded as a genius and a peacemaker his whole life, long after it was public knowledge the callous indifference with which he directly ordered the killing of thousands, and how he enthusiastically assisted and provided support to dictators, juntas, warlords, and reactionary militias, with no care for the millions they slaughtered.

Kissinger advised the Johnson administration. The war was getting close to ending. Kissinger went to the Nixon administration and began advising him, in secret, on what Johnson was doing. Worse, he deliberately kept the Vietnam war going so that Nixon could run on a platform of getting us out of Vietnam, making Johnson look bad.

When Nixon won, the war continued for many, MANY more years as Kissinger practiced the "vibes" of diplomacy that he learned from being abused as a kid. And as a result, my dad had to spend 1 year over there working on fuel tanks for the Air Force. And that directly caused the Parkinsons disease that led to his death 3 weeks ago. We have government documentation confirming that his being in Vietnam led to his death.

One lie about the man's history does not negate the monstrous, self serving, short sighted power grabs that Kissinger undertook. The man did his best to manipulate everyone around him so he was in charge, and he did not care who died as a result as long as he would always maintain power.

And it's not a lie - Kissinger’s efforts to destabilize Chile under Allende via economic warfare and subsuming the US diplomatic corps are well documented. The only thing you can say that isn't totally accurate is that Kissinger didn't pick Pinochet in particular - instead, he only created the opening for him to act, something that I find to be a distinction with little material difference.

Kissinger was a total rat in the 68 election but I think the Chennault Affair reflects more on Nixon than on Kissinger. And I don't believe it was really likely the war would have ended had a deal been reached. The North would have inevitably broken it as they did the later accords.

    I'll defer to Anthony Bourdain:
Once you’ve been to Cambodia, you’ll never stop wanting to beat Henry Kissinger to death with your bare hands. You will never again be able to open a newspaper and read about that treacherous, prevaricating, murderous scumbag sitting down for a nice chat with Charlie Rose or attending some black-tie affair for a new glossy magazine without choking. Witness what Henry did in Cambodia – the fruits of his genius for statesmanship – and you will never understand why he’s not sitting in the dock at The Hague next to Milošević.

In 2011, hitherto secret U.S. State Department documents from late 1972 were likewise published, revealing that Kissinger was irked by the concern expressed by American Jews about the fate of Soviet Jewry, calling the former “self-serving…bastards.”

Walter Isaacson explains that at a contemporaneous meeting of the Washington Special Actions Group, a government crisis task force, Kissinger grumbled, “If it were not for the accident of my birth, I would be antisemitic.” He added: “Any people who has been persecuted for two thousand years must be doing something wrong.”

Damn, beat me to it, though I suspect their argument in terms of a “lie” is akin to like many atrocities by that inhuman wormfood, namely that he didn’t personally pull a trigger/maim/murder someone but instead laid groundwork across the globe (including Chile) to allow monstrous individuals the means and opportunity to deprive life and limb from countless innocents.

And once someone tries to split hairs on it in that manner as to their responsibility, it’s already not worth the argument because anyone trying to do so is at best arguing in terribly misguided and bad faith, and far more likely worse, at least some shade of monster/abhorrent jackanape/soulless cretin.
