Running a Discord Community

I'm currently in the process of transitioning a meetup group I been running for over a decade from the meetup app and into a discord server.

The idea of the server is to let people plan their own events, chat and then meetup, while I moderate and set up the occasional more official event through the actual event section.

I have some prelim channels set up, including rules, introduction and then a few categories like "fitness" and " food and drinks".

Any tips for running a successful server? Kinda new to discord and I'm getting a bit confused by the concept of bots and roles as well.

Not much to it really, on the basic low end. How many people do you expect to be in the discord?

The event bot I use is called Apollo, it's more feature-ful than the default event creator.

Oh thank you for that bot recommendation! That's perfect for what I needed, should let people be able to set up their own events without me needing to micro manage.
