I'm currently the lowest level player in my guild at level 50 and every time I hear them talk about a raid fight or duties they're signing up for i feel like im never gonna catch up... such is the plight of the late-to-the-party MMO player...

The difference is that FFXIV content is designed to be far more "eternal" than any other MMO.

  • BahamutZEROBahamutZERO Registered User regular
also that the progression through the lower level content is still emphasized as important and worth doing and not like, halfway deleted the moment the next expansion or patch comes out like in WoW

Or like Destiny, where it's actually lost to the void for all time.

well I can spend my 2 m4 books on twine, get the caster gloves, and be done with caster gear and savage, or I can do potentially 6 more weeks of m4s and get 5 more ilevels on my tank weapon

it feels wrong to trade in books but option 1 looks better

  • SkeithSkeith Registered User regular
Could sit on the books until the alliance raid drops in a month or so.

even just choosing a tank is tough. war is out cause it's boring. pld is extremely comfy but also kind of boring. gnb is the best and I already have a 730 weapon for it but it's so rigid, and drk is kind of in the middle but with some annoying animation cancelling.

  • JarsJars Registered User regular
man parsing can be weird. I ran ex1 a bit on all 3 tanks and got these results:

68% on gnb, 730 weapon. 98.3% gcd uptime, some dot ticks losses on sonic break that are impossible to avoid, 0 other mistakes
61% on drk, 710 weapon. 97.7% gcd uptime, 1 tbn that didn't break and 0 other mistakes
67% on pld, 710 weapon, 96.7% gcd uptime, 3 lost intervenes, 1 triple weave, 2 gcds missed during fight or flight, 10 suboptimal skills during fight or flight

I guess competition is stiffer on gnb and drk than it is pld

Paladin will always be my favorite tank, because it's just a big beefy black mage doing its caster rotation directly into the face of monsters from 5 inches away.

kill time and patch is SUCH a huge contributor to parse%

bard seems pretty good this expansion, but I always get distracted by song timers and forget about dot timers

also I'm looking at xiv analysis and while I did pretty well for my garbage gear(ilevel 707) and garbage party member dps/kill times it was dinging me for ridiculous stuff, like overwriting a proc when renewing dots. and I hit a training dummy for a bit and I was losing like 40 soul guage trying to get apex arrow to align with 2 minutes. that's a very minimal benefit.

Yeah, the generally agreed upon theorycrafting is that it's better to cap on Soul Voice to use Apex Arrow during the burst window than it is to prevent form overcapping. I think it's also a little better to hold onto Apex to line up with the 1-minute window (i.e. mid-rotation Sidewinder), rather than shooting it at 80. But holding it at cap isn't worth it then.

damn m3, I must be healing too much or something

I don't think I'm going back into savage until lockouts are lifted though. I realized I'd rather just do m4 and turn the books into m3 books

58 was from my third kill and first kill with my static. I'm not sure how much harder I'll be able to push it over our ~6 reclears.

I still haven't done it. I have been dicking around with ex2 on bard and I really should stop because it doesn't matter how well you play when you get anywhere from 2.5-5k dps from your party and lately everyone has been a bunch of bufoons

Gimme a break, it was after my time, emo nerds!

Also the event is super short this year. Takes about 5m.

Edit: there are a few google image search results that corroborate my claim! (even if the entire first row was the Fallout mascot because apparently it's Fall Out Boy anyway)

Yeah 3 was the drag for me too; and that top parse was actually very early in the tier; before I was even close to getting best in slot. Most of my parses at current max item level are actually much lower

I hate pfing 3 too. I follow the positioning for the video strat and it doesn't seem to matter, I'm always out of position or popping my fuse at the wrong time or some bullshit. it's stupid. at least in m2 I can just join a clock group.

  • JavenJaven Registered User regular
3 is definitely the most annoying fight of the tier imo because almost every mechanic lets you kill other players

so this was only my second time doing this raid, and my first time on healer; please watch me and my co-healer have a serious Pacific Rim style Jaeger drift moment during that final heal check. You can see us dropping Exocog & Bene on two different people at exactly the right moment, it's pretty great.

You know, the first step is admitting you have a problem.

And speaking of touching grass, Yoshida has come up with a novel way of telling the player base with their new camping gear collab.

Yes, camping gear. In real life.

Min ilvl static started on our first Ultimate last weekend.

71 pulls so far, broken down by phase reached:

    Garuda: 35
    Ifrit: 18
    Titan: 17
    Lahabrea: 1

And so far I'm topping the charts!

They used official Coleman camping supplies in FFXV.

Judging by the square enix earnings report, i think its safe to say that (1) FFXIV is the tentpole holding the company up, and (2) that tentpole is sagging. With 7.1 tomorrow I wonder if we will see a course correction or doubling down on Dawntrail's issues.
Talk to Wuk Lamat to find out

geez I didn't even know 7.1 was tomorrow. definitely going to do the new alliance raid on tank first and eat up those vuln stacks

What would a course correction look like in this scenario

  • Grey GhostGrey Ghost Registered User regular
Actually I guess I would ask what are generally seen as the problems with this expansion and what they can reasonably change

People might complain about the story but that is going to be a small portion of the total time they will spend playing all the content of any given expansion

  • JarsJars Registered User regular
probably memory hole wuk lamat. though I agree with you that the story is a week or two worth of content and raids and various other content that you spend much more time on is very good

Travel back in time and release another expansion during the pandemic and then follow it up with your epic-arc-ending expansion.

There’s no “course correcting.” The lightning of ShB/EW can’t be re-bottled.
