First new Pinhead Gunpowder single is out and it’s great. It’s basically exactly what you’d expect, but they’ve always been wildly consistent, if not especially adventurous. Very much looking forward to this record.
The new Snow Patrol album is such a wonderful return to form, and it sounds incredible to boot. Still doesn't upseat my all-time favourite of theirs, Final Straw, but it's definitely worth the money. iTunes link here, and a single here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqQqEl5gB00
Just listened to this today and it was indeed very good.
I actually have my Tele set up for drop B and just capo when I really want to learn a different song. It's sooo beefy, and it feels better playing alone with the low end being in there.
Idk if this is content for anyone but me but this is a cool write up/interview/oral history of pretty girls make graves and there's videos of all their early bands too and it's just cool. I would describe good health as the most defining album of my coming of age and frankly probably still. I just love this band and unfortunately they called it quits in 2007 and the lead singer had so many health problems over the years, but they now seem to be ok and getting positive attention and matador rereleased one of their records and they're playing a couple of shows this year (but not coming to chicago which is an outrage) so I'm just very excited by all of that for them.
So turns out 7 strings is throwing me off quite a bit. The extra reach to the low B is a bit odd still and I'm not really sure how to use it that well yet when noodling. Though I've mostly just been playing power chords on it and maybe a little bit of a scale or two.
But also the active pickups are so much quieter than passive ones in confronted with the fact I don't really know how to set my amp very well still. Normally with my passive pickups I will kinda just leave the gain and volume at arbitrary but high value and only control the overall volume with the master volume knob. Doing so leads to me getting huge jumps in volume by turning the master pot in even tiny increments even with passive pickups but since the active ones need more juice this is more of an issue of finding a sweet spot where the volume is acceptable without being bonkers loud.

Doesn't matter what it's about, furniture, gargoyles, Immortal fans, the Italian national football team, celestial objects, Mattel toys, dandruff, dry pet food, they wanna fuck everything.
it has been pointed out to me that I could still get tickets for the pretty girls make graves reunion shows literally for their show tonight which was the first time i actually looked and yeah tickets are available at all of the cities.
I have a lot of credit card points. I guess I need to figure out if I know anyone in brooklyn, LA, or portland that might let me crash or want to go. they're all on a friday or saturday so i could even make it a little mini weekend.
Do you read standard notation? There's plenty of simple melody arrangements for other instruments you could play on guitar. For ocarina I look for violin arrangements since ocarina tabs are bullshit and easy violin stuff is in three same lower range on the staff.

Unfortunately I can't really make heads or tales of standard notation.
I've tried to pick it up but it's never really clicked for me
I've actually struggled with reading standard notation for guitar as well despite being pretty dang proficient at it for pretty much everything else I play.
A way to practice might be to learn one of them Zelda songs in a single position using the scales that you already know. That way the full fretboard isn't getting in the way.
I've haven't picked up another instrument since being in band for all of a month in middle school with a trumpet so yeah standard notation I never really learned at all
So far all I think I've figured out is the 3 note melody that triggers the rest of it in the game

I'm figuring more of it out using the sheet music. Still doesn't sound quite right beyond the first two bars or so tho
From my parents I got their vinyl record collection. There's some decent records in there even if much of it's not really my jam. I may make a project sometime of listening through most of it just for that connection to my parents.
However...there are also 4 Bill Cosby comedy albums in there. I'm not listening to those and I'm not donating them because, fuck Bill Cosby. The easy thing to do would be to smash them and throw them out. Any creative suggestions to further erase that man from history?

Can't get over how damn good "Cold" is. Just the perfect mix of their old school chunkiness and haunting background melodies from Issues. Peak shit.

I don't think it does all the time? I think it's modular. I believe U2 was in the center? maybe i'm remembering wrong.
