From Warren Sharp (spoiled for length), this was the year for any other team to come out of the AFC.
the scariest part about this Super Bowl?

this was supposed to be the year to knock off the Chiefs

Mahomes was most expensive cap hit in NFL at $37M

    his OL was weakened

    his WR1 was a rookie

they were forced to play SIX STRAIGHT GAMES at a REST DISADVANTAGE weeks 12-17, the ONLY time a team had to do that in NFL history

they had to play in Germany

    they didn't get a 1st round bye

they had to play on the road in the Divisional Round as an underdog

they had to play on the road in the Conference Championship round as an underdog

they were underdogs in the Super Bowl and were losing by double digits

it was the TOUGHEST PATH to a Super Bowl based on strength of opponent faced EVER

and they STILL won the Super Bowl

Everyone is making good points but I think we need to acknowledge that KC is right now celebrating a Super Bowl win in the Raiders home locker room

I dunno, I'm just not that scared of KC when I watched the Bills nearly beat them while absolutely, hilariously riddled with injuries and the Ravens lost by playing their worst game of the entire season.

I bet the Lions win this game. That's my hot take.

I do sincerely hope this game changes the conversation around Kyle Shanahan though because listening to all the talking heads raise him up as the greatest offensive coach ever even though he always, always clenches up and folds in critical moments has been maddening.

no see you simply have to have your last draft pick qb throw the ball downfield to win the game and not give the ball to your offensive superstar who drove all the way down the field basically by himself and was moving the ball functionally at will. this is basic football.

KC is 1000 percent the villains of the NFL

This season seems like the tipping point from plucky small market team to full on 'fuck those guys'

    And I get it

It's way better winning it all than being the team that people hopelessly root for when their team loses though

It wasn't this season that did that.

That was probably the worst Superbowl I've ever watched.

I’m old enough to remember the stretch where the nfc blew out the afc every year, those were way worse. This game was sloppy and dull in the first half then sloppy but exciting in the second and beyond. No super bowl that goes to overtime can really be the worst one ever (unless you’re a falcons fan I guess)

Trust me, I was thinking that most of this game haha. That helmet bounce to TD and Gibbs fumble combo may come to haunt Lions fans if we don’t get close to the super bowl in the next decade (very possible).

Scuttlebutt from some local KC sources with access to the C-suite guys, they're already preping an offer to restructure Mahomes' contract to lower cap hit so they pay Chris Jones and have some room to negotiate for a WR1 in the off-season.

    If that happens...

I don’t get it? Why was this game so bad?

The first half was boring but the second half was awesome and it went to overtime?

I thought this was a great superbowl. Very defensive but it wasn't boring.

I can't believe how good Mahomes is man, he is legit. The KC WR thing is played out, but god damn if MVS didn't literally run backwards on one of the most important drives of the game, and they still scored. He turned an 8 yard gain into a 3 yard loss!!!! That's bad! Don't do that!

Mahomes is a QB that wins despite his receivers.

Outside of Kelce and Rice I don’t trust any of them.

If you don't like that they win, fucking go beat them? It's a competition? They're better than you, get better???

IDK, it feels wild to attach villainous qualities to a team/player who is good at what they do. KC has the best QB in the league, unquestionably, but KC is not a perfect team and they are very beatable. This game went to OT. Fucking, get out there and beat them if you don't want to see them win.

I get it. Everytime KC wins it’s disappointing 31 other fan bases.

So the more you win the more you’re disappointing people.

Plus the attention that Mahomes and the Kelce’s get is the kind of thing people will always hate.

I definitely get them being the villain.

But to say it was a bad game seems wrong. It was a good game that just didn’t go the way some people wanted.

Mahomes is KC's all time leading rusher in the playoffs.

He has 14 more yards than Pacheco.

For all the great running backs KC has had, it's weird those two are at the top. Just goes to show how little success we've had in the playoffs until recently.

No gripes with any players (Now that Hill is in heaven for shit heads) but in most matchups id root against KC just based on the racist chant and ongoing appropriation. And honestly the fact that success has given them some sort of protection from criticism on those fronts is falling.

But San Francisco isn't some put upon franchise what with the four titles and multiple other appearances and they do employ and uplift Bosa and conversely left Kaepernick out to dry so they can go get fucked back to denimville. I hope that botched punt triggered your PTSD.

I think what really gets me is the only reason KC was able to claw a win in literally the last seconds of the fifth quarter is luck. If they'd been playing great and it was just SF's excellent defense that was stopping them that would be one thing but to be saved by a punt boinking off a guy's ankle is embarrassing. Outside of the last touchdown to win it neither team's offense looked like they were firing on all cylinders.

Just shows that special teams play is important and if you're block you on a punt you've got to stay away from the ball.

so much of football is luck, though! It's a weirdly shaped ball and it causes Problems. Being able to either capitalize on it or lessen how bad it is is part of the game.

This is kind of a weird take? Like who is that last part directed at? Us fans? I'm pretty sure most teams try to beat them. KC has won 3 superbowls in the last 5 years. The villainous label is just something from the LeBron Miami days that now gets applied to teams that win a lot because every other fan base is jealous of their success. Nobody is applying the term to mean they aren't a great team or anything.

EDIT: As RedTide mentioned, KC is another easy target for many fan's ire due to all the racist crap tied to their organization, from team name, down to the fan chants.

I dislike KC at their base for the same reason I dislike all successful dynasty sports teams - it's fucking boring! Get someone else in there!

Then you add on the fact that Mahomes is fucking everywhere. It's oversaturation and it annoys me.

And we haven't even sprinkled the shit heap that is that fan base with it's outright racism (booing the moment of silence to end racism during the BLM protests) and grotesque cultural appropriation!

Plenty of reasons to feel like KC is a villainous team.

    It’s just boring.

Of course I’m upset other teams can’t beat them, but I’m also upset at the chiefs because this is supposed to be entertainment and the same team winning over and over isn’t entertaining. Fuckin go away!

Basically it’s Brady Pats part two.

At the very least in this one there was minimal ref fuckery, the blame for the loss is squarely on the niners, primarily on their play calling (seriously run the damn ball).

Not to surprised at the end both the packers and lions should have beat the 49ners so them losing to basically the same kinds of issues is not shocking. They had not played great in the last couple weeks and just barely did enough to win. KC is basically the same their defense was looking good but their offense was doin jack squat for most of the game.

Some of the 49ers are saying they didn’t know the OT rules and that’s why they took the ball first in OT.

They thought TD was a win.

If that’s honestly true then that is some shitty coaching
