1) It was a good game, not great, not bad. This is coming from someone who didn't want to see either of these teams in the Superbowl, so it was going to have to be an offensive game to make it really fun (Think Mahomes/Allen style game). It was a great defensive game in the first half, if you were a fan of either team, that might be fun. But for most casual folks not really. The 2nd half was better, but still wasn't that good. And while it got to OT, I think by that point, we all knew the Chiefs were going to win anyways, so shrug.
2) Since KC wins all the time, begrudgingly many folks (myself included) were rooting for the 49ers. And we got to see coaching malpractice live. So that's going to impact the enjoyment of the game.
3) One thing that was definitely in the positive for the game was the refs. They are never perfect, but if the choice is lots of flags vs less flags, I'm glad they leaned on the less flags.
4) The half time show was an unexpected delight. Why was I surprised? Usher hasn't had a hit since 2010. He has some bangers from 20 years ago and was playing in Vegas here the last decade+, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised? But compared to super popular modern artists they usually get, I figured this was choice #6 or something, so I wasn't expecting much. Turned out to be one of the best in a long while!
5) Commercials continue to be 'meh' for the most part. Dunkin was the only one to get a chuckle out of me, it was by far the best. The T-mobile one got a smile at the end.

This was a rare game where I don’t think I have a single complaint about a call or lack of a call.
This season seems like the tipping point from plucky small market team to full on 'fuck those guys'
And I get it
It's way better winning it all than being the team that people hopelessly root for when their team loses though
I honestly never understand this attitude in sports/sports fans, unless the team is somehow underhanded in the way they're winning. It's so...whiny.
If you don't like that they win, fucking go beat them? It's a competition? They're better than you, get better???
IDK, it feels wild to attach villainous qualities to a team/player who is good at what they do. KC has the best QB in the league, unquestionably, but KC is not a perfect team and they are very beatable. This game went to OT. Fucking, get out there and beat them if you don't want to see them win.
I as a fan don’t have any power to make my team go out and beat them and sitting around during the Super Bowl going “damn those Seahawks if you didn’t suck we wouldn’t be in this situation” is even more pants-on-head crazy than disliking the Chiefs for being there.
Most people develop these feelings for teams because they watch games like this Super Bowl where they have no investment in either team winning, so instead they invest in one team losing. That’s just normal human shit.
Not sure why the continued hubbub about the OT decision. They didn't get the TD regardless? Would they have gotten it on 4th down if they went for it if they couldn't settle for 3? Seems a stretch to blame the loss on considering everything else.
Arguably had already lost going 3 and out before a generous holding call extended their drive.
And really they fucked it when they ran the clock down to the two minute warning, then didn't keep the ball on the ground to run more clock/force a timeout.
I dunno, in the hierarchy of LolNiners taking the ball first in OT seems pretty low on the list to me
I think someone said there was an intelligible man down field on the niners TD. Long developing shit like that the linemen tend to get antsy and move up field too much.
But it seemed like a pretty cleanly called game. Everytime I wanted to get mad at a call it was legit on the replay.
The only calls I saw I'd question are the spots that went against KC and one pass where Mahomes clearly throws and then gets wrapped up and put to the ground; there was no time to not hit him but the wrap-up felt like it would have been called most games
I'm not concerned about the OT coin decision because the Niners shouldn't have been in that spot to begin with. Any football analyst will tell you, don't ever get in a situation where Mahomes has the ball last and if he scores you lose. Your entire game plan should be to prevent that situation. There were dozens of bad offensive play calls and bad play by Purdy that were probably way more impactful to the Niners losing than them getting the ball first in OT.
The Niners defense played out of their minds in the first half, but the offense couldn't capitalize.

Listening to BS, I can't understand how they think Purdy played great? At best he was ok maybe. But he had at least 2 or 3 interceptions the Chiefs just dropped. Hell, OT should have been over almost immediately. I did completely forget about the punt hitting the Niner in the foot giving the Chiefs instant red zone lol. If I had to grade the Niners:
Defense: A - They played one of their best games, lost one of their best players in the first half, and just got gassed as the offense couldn't give them enough breaks.
Offense: C - When McCaffery was used, he was torching the Chiefs. The fullback was having a lot of success as well. Purdy played ok at best, they had a fumble (at least it was on the right side of the field). But the play calling was terrible, you can't have multiple 3 and outs and not play aggressive against the Chiefs.
Special Teams: D - Moody made some long FG's and they had some good punts (one at the 1 yard line). But you can't let them block an extra point and you 100% can't give the ball to the Chiefs in their redzone.

And yeah, Purdy is ok. People need to stop trying to make him into more than he is.
Hes in the best position a QB can be in with that team so it inflates his stats some.
Hes just Brock Purdy. Theres a reason why he was barely drafted.

The plus side is that he's young and has some post season experience now. If he can keep improving on his game, he probably does have a chance to be a really good to great QB.

He’s more than likely going to have a damn good team around him for the foreseeable future.
You could put almost any "decent" quarterback in at San Francisco and have a good season, except for you, knucklehead head coach and bad play calling, will definitely cost anyone games

If Purdy wins a title it will most likely look a lot like that game last night.
Defense playing out of their minds while the running game eats time and yards.
They almost certainly lose Chase Young and Randy Gregory in the offseason.
The true testament to how much they think Purdy is the guy is when it comes to payday.
Are they willing to put a huge hit on their cap space for a QB like Purdy?

Like…that felt like everything basically went right for the 49ers to have won a Super Bowl this year.
I don’t want to say they lost their chance but I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up being the best chance they have during the Shanahan/Purdy era
i just have to imagine at some point purdy’s almost ints are going to turn into actual ints but maybe he made a deal with a witch or something.
after watching him for a whole season now, he’s pretty good inside structure, especially going to first reads on timing routes. but outside of structure he’s absolutely terrible and almost every other throw should be picked. his deep ball is also pretty bad.
at the end of the day jag qbs have a hard time winning it all in this league.
re: niners, the real thing that went right for them was cmc never got hurt long term even with that insane workload throughout the season.

Yeah. Just from the AFC side, next year it will either be an even stronger version of KC back in the owl, or a team good enough to beat them, neither of which I have hopes for the Niners playing against. And then within the NFC, they're going to have to deal with almost certainly better versions of the Packers and Lions, both of whom they almost lost to this year.

I could see him having a Goff like arc. Someone who could be a top 10 QB if in the right situation.
They also had Bosa healthy and had Young as a rental. Campbell said this after the Lions loss, it's always really hard to get back.
ya i mean eagles went from world beaters who barely lost to the chiefs to a team who died after their dick fell off and they slipped on it, with almost the same roster.
It's another perk the Chiefs seem to have, nobody seems to want to hire their coordinators. OC, makes sense since they are just helping Reid. But this defense has been playing crazy good the last couple seasons, how Spags hasn't even gotten an interview is kind of crazy.
I'm tempted to go to the Michigan Panthers vs St Louis Battlehawks game but I also just found out my dental implants are going to be more expensive than I thought so i should save money

Spags doesn't seem to have any interest in head coaching after his one stint as interim HC in New York.

We’ll probably try to go to a roughnecks game given our proximity to the stadium.

This is funny, because that's exactly what I thought too. So, I went looking to validate that assumption.
"I would love [being a head coach again], just because I think you always want another chance at it," he said this week after his Chiefs arrived for Super Bowl LVIII. "And I loved having a whole team.
"But I'm OK if we keep going to Super Bowls. It's tough to get a head job when you keep playing in the playoffs this late."
At least from what he says, he has interest. Teams seem to prefer hiring dudes with offensive backgrounds as their head coaches now-a-days though

The referee very clearly told the captains at the toss how it worked, though. He told them that both teams would have an opportunity to score.
Also: if the 49ers had kicked away to start OT, they would have put their defense right back out after finishing a long drive to end regulation.

What the hell would lead the Niners play calling to quit running the ball? I didn't really notice any dramatic changes for the KC defense.
The appropriation and racism by KC is sad disgusting and off putting
It also feels like they've been the best for a decade, but I think it's more like five years, which is still too long

I suspect there was approximately 11 instances of holding during the double flea flicker, but it was a cool play so who cares.
I don’t get too hung up on holding when you get weird ass plays like that.
The only thing better would be if a niner receiver had lined up offside and it went uncalled
A dozen missed holding calls is a small price to pay to teach Swifties the glory of the Flea Flicker.

Not sure I'd say everything, losing one of their best defensive players to running on the field, feels a bit like a curse haha.

He's just Brock
Why won't he give C-mac the rock?
Look at him dropping back to throw an almost int.

I'm tired.
