Same here, but it doesn't seem to be the case for everyone, as they are happily still quoting posts. Actually now that I think of it, they're probably on mobile. I'm on desktop.

Interestingly when I click quote nothing happens, but when I choose to open it in a new tab it does. I don't know if that is the same error as others, or I am experiencing something different and unique to me.
It definitely seems like an issue with the desktop javascript, even though it's a 500 error - perhaps the request URL is generated differently on mobile
The edit button is on every post for mobile.
And every thread. And if I click on it for announcement threads I get a button that says dismiss and makes the thread flash green.

Well this is at least a workaround, I was going insane until I read this. Same results for me on Desktop, I have to quote via a new tab.
quoting is broken for me on desktop; also, pasted uploaded images seem to be oversized
this happened to me on this post in the wrestling thread, some quick twitter screenshots I took are massive
Interestingly, ctrl-scroll wheel/ctrl+/ctrl-- zooming changes the image in the opposite way it should, zooming out/smaller size makes the pictures bigger while zooming in/larger size makes them smaller

I just tried it and this method also works for me to get the quote on desktop.
I'm on Win 11 Home, Chrome browser
Edit: to be clear, I don't get the 500 error when clicking quote, it's just that nothing happens when I click it. When I tab-click it it appears in a new window.

You can also render the page in mobile format in Firefox and it allows you to click the quote button. It may be a pain in the butt to do but it works for me.
I wonder why it's making an http call to begin with since the data is right there.
It might be reloading the post from the server so that you're quoting the latest text in cases where it's still being edited? Pretty sure I've seen that before where the text that showed up in the quote box was different from what was present at the time I hit quote.
Web stuff isn't my forte but it might also be the only (or most reasonable) way that opening the quote in a new tab could work.

Yeah, that's exactly what it's doing. You might sometimes notice when you quote a post it'll grab a newer, edited version of the text if there is one.
Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust

Tube must be on vacation because issues like this rarely take this long to fix.

I mean I know that but what's the point of that? It's not like your post is dynamically changing based on the initial quote after the fact anyway. Usually when I click quote and respond I'd rather have the quote that I'm looking at not the one that got updated while I'm scrolling through the page slower than normal. Plus situations like this wouldn't happen. You know the text and you know the ID of the comment you're quoting.

It isn't actually right there. When viewing the forums, all the posts have been converted from BBCode to HTML. When quoting or editing a post you get the original BBCode.

Gotcha. I thought it was still BBC for display simply because I wrote myself a FF plugin that changes some words on the page here on Penny-Arcade and was able to manually edit the innerHTML and thought I saw the BBC code.

Also clicking the bookmark button shows an error, but does add/remove the bookmark as normal.

Win 11 Home with Opera for me.
She uses my method!
