hubie is the best national color announcer because he’s the only person who actually watches basketball or knows anything about it.
he’s not great just because he’s so old, but i’ll listen to 100 hubie games before one reggie miller or stan van gundy game. every time svg tries to host a podcast about some personal gripe he has in the middle of the third quarter i wanna throw myself off a bridge.

I will admit his analysis is still excellent often, just in the moment when I made that post he had a serious drawl to his tone meanwhile I was coming off an intensity level that deeply upset my dog.
Personally, im always here for some Van Gundy. I do think that Jeff got overly grumpy, to the point where it felt like he didnt really enjoy the game anymore sometimes, but i also thought he was funny and more thoughtful than anyone else. Stan is still great, imo.
Boston getting in their awful shooting game early this round. 22% from three, 41% from the floor.
Cleveland deserves some credit for playing inspired defense, but I'm starting to understand the criticism of Mazzulla in this thread. Boston erased an early deficit in the second by scoring 18 in the paint and they still decided to try and shoot themselves out of the next deficit from long range.
Mazzula also never seems to have any ideas about what to do as a game progresses - he doesn’t call time outs at good spots, he doesn’t call or draw up plays to exploit the flow of the game. He basically just relies on his talent to figure it out for him… and Boston has a ton of talent, but they revert to chucking threes when it’s late. It’s been a problem since Stevens, but he had much better in-game coaching and less raw talent to work with.
It’s no coincidence that this Boston team had its best result so far with Udoka - he seemed to be able to handle talent (and the egos that come with it) than Stevens, and was much better in-game than Mazzula.
Maybe they can overcome that this year, but any team going against the Celtics has a chance if they can make the Celtics have to work for it. Make their plan run into trouble and if the fallback threes don’t go in at a high rate you have a better chance than you’d think looking at stats and numbers.

Mazzula's inability to make in-game adjustments is very apparent. It's probably his biggest weakness.
I'm sad my team lost at basketball. On the positive side, everyone will just focus on Boston losing. And we definitely didn't play our best game -- not as stressed about it as I thought I might be.

If I'm a Boston fan, I am thoroughly unimpressed by Tatum's post game comments in the presser as well. Dude didn't hold himself responsible for his awful shooting at all and the comparison to the lone Miami win the previous series isn't very strong. Miami set a franchise record going 23/43 from downtown that game, but Cleveland went a much more normal 13/28 last night.

If Rick Carslie was coaching them instead of Indiana, Celtics are winning the whole thing.
Instead, Mazzula has a Deer in Headlights look, Everytime. Should let Jrue Holiday be player -coach instead.

pretty sure Celtics fans have a love/hate relationship with Tatum. they were absolutely destroying him after the 2022 Finals.

I didn't watch much of that series or any of the pressers then so I can't comment on how consistent last night's compares to any in the past. All I can say is how surprised I was not hear anything remotely critical of himself or his team. It's not hard to say "We need to be better" or "I need to make more shots", but there wasn't even a semblance of accountability. They're probably talented enough to take the East anyway, but they should be terrified of whoever comes out of the West.
Honestly, they are so vastly overtalented compared to the Knicks that they would probably win, but it seems like its impossible to just come out there chill and in cruise control against a team like that. Like, just their energy, intensity, and that MSG crowd would wake up or overwhelm any team.
and lately Celtics been garbage at home in the playoffs. they forced game 7 last year after being down 3-0 in their gym and got completely demolished.

And frankly that Miami team had less talent than half of the East this year. Like I love Bam and Jimmy, but they were both pretty banged up and never should have gone as far as they did.

I’m not a fan of any particular NBA team anymore, but I still enjoy the games and watching these amazingly talented guys do amazing things. However, I live in the Celtics market so they’re the players I see the most and hear the most about.
That press session by Tatum was both hilarious and very representative of what he values and how he thinks about his role at his job.
Tatum doesn't like driving to the basket even though that's the only thing that ties the rest of his game together.
He's obsessed with stupid fade aways and step-back 3's and he's just not very good at them. I think I saw a stat that he was 22-88 from 3 in their last 31 home playoff games in which their record is 14-17

Absolutely. The team did really well in a few games this season when they decided to “make a statement” about how they can win in different ways and they started going inside more.
He tends to fall back to those shots when things are already going poorly, and he also tends to disengage from the game at the same time - which just makes things worse and compounds into that stat line.
That's the key to any good conspiracy though, right? The NBA is simultaneously powerful enough to rig games at will for decades and decades, with billions of dollars on the line while keeping it mostly covered up, but also weak and incompetent enough that they haven't managed to push the Knicks over the finish line since the 70s and somehow let the San Antonio Spurs wind up with 5 titles and a generational international superstar in the process.
I love that theory. The Knicks had a 50/50 chance to win the lottery, and then they win "it must be rigged!" Nevermind there was no real mechanism for how it could happen (i know the frozen envelope, bent corner theories. None make sense without rummaging)

Clearly the NBA loves Cleveland which is why it rigged the number one pick for them 4 times in like 12 years.
DJJ with a legendary flop to end the half. SGA lightly hits him in the shoulder with an elbow, which he responds to by grabbing his face and staying on the floor for a minute, before slowly limping off. Not a technical on review, and the sequence ends with DJJ laughing at his own theatrics.

….except Jalen Brunson is unstoppable and the Villanova crew just wins

Oh, you're right! That was the first year it wasnt 50/50. My bad.
Congrats on MVP Nikola but I really think Donte Divincenzo deserved it more
Score really should be 41-43 right now though
Nuggets shooting 57%, 58% on 3s. Murray being super efficient right now.
