    Fire Punch is the tragedy.

    CSM is the comedy.

I love how Makoto now has enough power that on the second time meeting the goddess he's not only able to stand his ground but openly insult her. She's probably still "stronger" than him just because divine power seems to carry authority with it, but I don't think she's capable of killing him anymore. At best she might only be able to stalemate things if he decided to go for the throat. He certainly has enough reasons to try. And she made two colossal mistakes that are going to come back and bite her: she promised that if he did as she asked shed would stop interfering with him directly and she informed him that a godly promise is very difficult to break with possibly some heavy repercussions for doing so. So Makoto can now display his full power and she can't do anything direct about it. And she only said she would not interfere with him, he is not under any kind of restrictions.

Oh, and something tells me that her finally giving him the ability to understand Common language was more than it seemed to be, but not something she did on purpose. She doesn't have the power to hurt him like that, they already pointed that out, meaning that "damage" came from something else. My guess is that it has to do with the Understand All Languages Except Common ability she did grant him at the start, which she pointed out. What if by restoring the Common part it ratcheted up exponentially in power or authority? We've already seen how it applies not just to spoken language but the languages of magic itself too. So the first ability was strong but "incomplete" and now that it's "complete" it's gone up a couple ranks in power maybe? Hope it's explained soon.

There was so much I loved about this episode besides that. Tomoe's hammy acting, the demiplane getting to show what they're able to do, and the imminent collision course with both heroes Makoto is now on. Gonna be a good buildup to the finale.

    Technically....
Makoto would be under the restriction to not "aggressively interfere" with the hyumans.

True, but he's about to make it nearly impossible for hyumans or demons to do something that might get him to interfere: taking Kalneon as his own country. Because it sits smack between the hyuman territories and the demon territory as a giant buffer, so neither can attack the other without going through his land first, and retaliating against them doing so would probably not count as interfering since it'd be self defense against trespassers. This also enables him to trade with both countries openly since by the time all is said and done in this season I'm confident he'll be seen as a new center of power on the political battlefield.

Is anyone else reading _The Days Of Diamond_ ? (ongoing on Mangaplus, and as usual if you use the app you can read all the chapters, just only once).

It's a sports manga, definitely, but it's also a sports manga completely unlike any other one I've read. For one thing, the amount of actual sports is significantly smaller than usual; it's about baseball, and there are baseball matches in there, but much much more of it is about the things surrounding the sport.

And, sure, that's not particularly unusual, but the discussions aren't about "how to get better" or "meeting the sports rival in the arcade and challenging them to a match there" or training or whatever, they're almost entirely about the internal mental states of the players and the coaches.

The thing I haven't mentioned yet is that the lead character is, probably, the best pitcher in the world (this is literally something the characters say). And even _that_ isn't, in itself, super unusual.

The thing that makes this one different is that the lead character doesn't really _want_ to be the best pitcher in the world. He just wants to play sports and have fun, and he wants his team mates to have fun, and he wants the opposing team to have fun. The thing is, (sort of like Saitama?), when he can pitch a completely 100%-strikes game pretty much whenever he wants, that causes problems.

First off, the opposing team tends to be pretty demoralised. Secondly, his own team doesn't get to do much while he's pitching. Thirdly, baseball-the-sport in general winds up revolving around him because he's so much better than anyone else, so other players in _other teams_ are worried about what'll happen if they play him because they're basically bound to lose; and coaches tend to give him more attention, and (at this point in the story he's in elementary school/early junior high) he's worried about taking positions at high schools away from other kids because the other schools all want him.

And then there's other, more practical, details; like I said, he's around 11 or 12 years old, so there's a plot around suffering literal growing pains -- but also it makes things difficult for the coaches, because on one side they want to have him play as much as possible so the team will win, but on the other hand they risk physically injuring him or affecting his progress because he's still growing. And also if they just put him out to pitch all the time, what happens to the other players that are also pitchers? And how do they get the outfielders to keep being able to play properly when there are no hits coming their way? And his teammates are a bit conflicted between wanting to be on a winning team, and wanting to actually have had some involvement in winning -- and, yes, half of every game does involve the team being at bat, but when all they have to do is score a single run the way the game works isn't the way it's really meant to work.

Downsides -- well, it's a baseball manga, so if that's not your cup of tea this won't be. That said, I don't usually like stories based around the fiddly details of the rules around who's on which base / walks / strikes / etc, and it doesn't pay attention to those things very often, it's much more about "what is it like to be too good at something?" (just more seriously than OPM). Also the main character is pretty whiny at times, despite his friends/team-mates trying to cheer him up; some of the nicest scenes are when they're just kids goofing around and making fun of each other about hairstyles or whatever.

Anyway, it's worth a look if you're after a sports manga that's very much not like other sports mangas, in a way that I hadn't seen before.

So while I was sick this week I let Dr Stone start playing on Netflix and is it worth keeping up with? I like the premise and characters well enough, but I fear that a "restart humanity" plot is at risk of some gross avenues. There's already been a suspect underwear shot, so I'm already sceptical.

It's definitely more about "given only stone age tools, how could we smelt aluminium" than "how should we Remake Politics But Get It Right This Time"; there's some social aspects in there but it's not what the writer's interested in. And, yeah, it can be fairly cheesecake-y at times, but only like, say, One Piece, it's not the point of the story, it's just what the artist likes to draw at times.

There are some great moments in there, so if you like the way it starts, you'll probably like the way it keeps going.

Today's chapter of Oshi no Ko:
Mengo has had her fun, but now we get Aqua's thoughts and he is against the incest route, only seeing Ruby as a sister and being in love with Kana.

They also try to get around the "adult in a teenager's body dating other teenagers" thing by establishing Aqua and Goro as separate personalities.

Been a while since I've done a manhwa post, but I'm too lazy to write the whole thing/edit, so here's a quick summary. Throwing in spoilers for those who don't care.
Finished, not trash: Leviathan, Barbarian Quest (sadly dropped, still worth it), Unholy Blood
Finished, good trash: Medical Return, Solo Leveling, Crimson Karma, Second Life of a Gangster, Weak Hero (starts good, goes WAAAAAAAYYYYYY too long and drags), The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor (dropped; It was fine, but....frankly Overgeared is the same shit and better), The Second Coming of Gluttony (dropped; LN is excellent, tho), The Boxer (starts amazing, kinda drops at the end), Her Summon (some questionable stuff but it deals with it in-world, artwork is its strongest thing)
Finished, middling trash: The Villainess Turns the Hourglass, Again My Life
Finished, actual garbage: Existence, Memorize (dropped; although I hear the LN for this is good)

I don't know what the fuck happened to these, but they were not really worth reading: Escort Warrior (had some good moments, dropped off), Everyone Else is a Returnee, The Descent of the Demonic Master

As far as I know these are still going but I stopped reading at some point and if I get bored I may circle back to see if they get to earlier quality: My Wife is a Demon Queen, The Gamer, The Lady and the Beast, Tomb Raider King, The Scholar's Reincarnation, Limit Breaker, Father, Unrivaled

Astonishingly Not trash: Viral Hit (SEASON 1 ONLY), Surviving the Game as a Barbarian, SSS-Class Suicide Hunter, Villains are Destined to Die, The Greatest Estate Developer, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, Latna Kingdom

Good trash, Isekai: Kill the Villainess, I'm a Martial Art Villainess but I'm the Strongest
Good trash, regression/Reincarnation: Doom Breaker (season break), Damn Reincarnation (season break), My Daughter is the Final Boss, The Beginning After the End, Swwordmaster's Youngest Son
Good trash, cultivation: Murim Login (also isekai, but best fits here), Nano Machine, Legend of the Northern Blade, Return of the Mount Hua Sect
Good trash, other: The Great Mage Returns after 4000 years (technically somehow none of the above? It's on season break. It's alright), Blinded by the Setting Sun (The Spark in Your Eyes), Jungle Juice, Overgeared, Mercenary Enrollment, Tower of God, The Tutorial is Too Hard

Middling trash, Isekai: FFF-Class Trashero (Pretty sure this got dropped. It was always a better idea than implementation), Caught by the Villain, Trash of the Count's Family, Solo Max-Level Newbie, The World After the Fall, Dungeon Reset, The Tutorial Tower of the Advanced Player
Middling trash, regression/reincarnation: Regressor Instruction Manual (season break), The Lazy Lord Conquers the Sword (season break), God of Blackfield (soooo close to dropping into actual garbage), Kill the Hero, Actually I Was the Real One, Skeleton Soldier Couldn't Protect the Dungeon, 1st Year Max Level Manager, Second Life Ranker, The S-Classes That I Raised, White Dragon Duke Pendragon, A Returner's Magic Should Be Special, Worn and Torn Newbie, Leveling with the Gods, Villain to Kill
Middling trash, cultivation: Enrolling in the Transcendent Academy
Middling trash, other: Reality Quest (technically regression but it's only one week and doesn't matter), I'm a Doting Father, Perfect Surgeon, The Player that Can't Level Up

Actual garbage but I can't stop reading: I Got a Fake Job at the Academy, Other World Warrior, Trapped in a Webnovel as a Good-for-nothing, Return of the Crazy Demon, Not Just Anybody Can Become a Villainess, My School Life Pretending to be a Worthless Person, 4 Cut Hero, Quest Supremacy, Lookism
Actual garbage: Is This Hero for Real? (same author as Trashero, same hero name despite different characters. This one's honestly confusing as fuck), Viral Hit (SEASON 2 ONLY), The Game That I Came From

....there's others in actual garbage but I legit can't remember them at this point.

dungeon meshi post-manga spoilers-ish, from the new supplemental book
so, one of the the one-page comics from the new version of the adventurer's bible has Izutsumi talk with Lycion, the werewolf in the canaries
turns out that Izutsumi won't ever be able to get rid of the curse and stay as a human... because instead of putting the soul of a cat in a little girl, the bastards who did it to her put the soul of a little girl in a cat. Or fantasy panther, I guess.
(And yes, her backstory is hella morbid in all sorts of ways.)

Anime thread, I'm in a crisis. I've read the first few chapters of Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction, so I was excited when they announced the anime. They recut the movie duology into weekly episodes and today the first episode dropped on Crunchyroll. Except it's "episode 0" and it apparently was not in the movies. Instead it's an adaptation of some much later chapters, like chapter 90 or something. (I'm assuming some sort of flashback/belated prologue?)

So the first review on the video says "New anime-only fans DO NOT WATCH this first episode they shouldn't have put it first what were they thinking?"

A Reddit comment thread discusses this review, with various opinions of "Well if they meant to put it first, you should watch it first, we should trust the studio," or "Well you CAN watch it first but I wouldn't recommend it." One comment was giving the same warning of "Just wait till episode 1!" and got downvoted.

So, I want to watch the show with my friend. Do we watch episode 0 or just wait till episode 1? I felt like chapter 1 was a pretty good beginning for the series. Will episode 0 be safe to watch by the time the other episodes come out?

One small spoiler for the “restart humanity” thing
It’s not a “repopulate the earth” angle, it’s figuring out how to produce a chemical to free everyone from the peteification, plus how to rebuild society to support bringing everyone back who was petrified.

It’s really good and has some really heart warming and bittersweet moments in there

    One sad thing is
They do reinvent capitalism to appease/motivate their chosen revived sea captain, as well as a bunch of people they brought back to motivate them by creating a small fashion-and-ramen-based economy to build a seafaring ship

Also maybe it’s headcanon but I am like completely convinced that Senku is potentially the most Ace man on the planet, petrified or not

Dr Stone generally takes a fairly basic "civilization is good" stance, and you shouldn't expect any nuanced takes on politics. But it doesn't really do anything problematic that I can think of. The science stuff is a fun gimmick even though it's almost always completely absurd if you ever stop to think about the practicalities.
