Found a new isekai manga that didn't look like much, but it's actually pretty good. "Isekai no Binbou Nouka ni Tensei Shita Node". It's in the "development and crafting" subgenre, focusing on a boy reincarnated into another world who starts out building up a field and eventually becomes a lord of a new territory. But he's not overpowered, or super gifted in magic, or has some other cheat ability that nobody else in the world can use. And that last one is what impresses me the most, everything he does in the story (even his discoveries with magic) other people can do as well. It's also really incremental progression, he doesn't just become this super overpowered mage in a couple chapters, or really at all. The magic system itself is also an interesting take on things.
Basically, for most people when they reach 6 years old they go to the church for what is called the Naming Ceremony. Once they receive a name from the priest, they become able to use basic Lifestyle magic, and most people think that's the only way people become able to use magic at all. However, our protagonist memorizes the magic circle used on him and tries it out for himself later, at which point he discovers that the Naming Ceremony doesn't just confer Lifestyle magic onto the recipient of the name, but ALL the magic able to be used by the namer in exchange for contributing a portion of their mana. And the list is not just at the time of naming, so as the protagonist learns new magic so does everyone else he names. Further, the mana contribution acts kind of like a pyramid scheme. So the priest Names the protagonist and receives a portion of their mana, but when the protagonist Names someone else the priest ALSO receives a portion of that portion. This may not sound all that interesting, but it is to me because it organically explains why the hierarchy of the world is like it is. Kings and nobility aren't powerful just because they're nobility, they're powerful because they have so many subordinates all contributing mana to them. They're not super special, it's something anyone with the knowledge can do.
Oh, I also like it because the protagonist does what I wish so many other isekai protags would do as well: they actually fight back against nobility trying to screw them over.
Oh my god are we actually going to be pairing the marriage candidates with each other so they won't get in the way of Gero/Kinosaki? Incredible.
oh........ oh, I hadn't thought of it _that_ way, but it would be amazing if that's what's actually going on
Today’s Marriage Toxin chapter:
If they do decide to do the full gay ending, Ushio + Chinatsu would be a very interesting pair now that I think about it. And Erina would wrap Ushio around her finger no matter how stern or tsun she tried to be.
I caught up with one piece and aside from Oda defending his pedophile friend and also never got the uh left vibes people ascribe to it and it's also a Shonen so yeah

Its very specifically anti fascist though?
Also given the lineup on the Kenshin anniversary thing it's pretty clear the publisher is making people defend Watsuki
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

Tite Kubo apparently publicly refused, and has called this behavior out before, which is cool.
I mean I'm not saying one piece isn't left wing but like Dragon even said "there are good kings" and every power structure is just given to "the good guys" I knows it's a Shonen but only such critique comes from such a post, I mean yeah we can frame the world government rightly as the slavetrocacy it is but the underlying message to me at least is ya need the right leaders in the right place
The crew is a anomaly in the world but the setting and actions is still a weird reinforcement of heriarchy a thing I don't think is cool
One Piece is a case where a simplistic message like "Governments should exist to do good things for the people instead of doing bad things for their own benefit" comes off as radical just because of how comically evil real life governments are acting.

I guess I'm just gonna spoil a bunch of One Piece here:
The thing is, for as much power as kings have as their own island it pretty much ends there, you might as well call them mayors. Dragon isn't trying to depose them, he's trying to take down the actual nobility class that has unchecked power and produces nothing as well as the world government and the five elders above them who have proven time and again that they are willing to resort to genocide. Like, Wano is a straight up apartheid state that nobody will do anything about because they didn't join up. Luffy and his crew have been a catalyst for change but I think the Revolutionary Army has been around longer than Luffy has been alive and we're to the point people are starting to revolt against the world government independently.
It's not that we just need the right people in charge, it's the the structure of power itself is corrupt and needs to be torn down.

on their own islands they do still have absolute power and plenty of them abuse it, even if they're still beholden to the Super-Aristocracy who has all the WMDs
yeah, when the straw hat pirates visit a kingdom in duress, it's because of bad rulers or another malicious actor - when they leave, good kings are left in place

Tatsuki Fujimoto is kind of conspicuously missing from the list of contributors too, though I'm not aware of him saying anything publicly.
Yukinobu Tatsu and Tatsuya Endo are also fairly big names at Jump that somehow didn't get roped in.
Since I didn't even realize until it was already complete that the last season of MHA came out, I've been doing a bunch of episodes each night for the last couple days.
It's definitely a different vibe from the earlier seasons where it was hero high school with the occasional peril, I do still enjoy it, especially since it's basically all fireworks factory at this point.
Though there's maybe slightly more "ahaha you though you defeated me but I have a trick up my sleeve that resets the fight!" than I'd like.

I wish the start of dandadan didn't have so much creepy leering rape threats even if the perpetrators are immediately foiled, it really makes it start with a sour note and hard to recommend to people.

I always have that disclaimer whenever I recommended Dandadan - the first episodes are rough in that way.
Thank God Momo proves herself to be a badass multiple times in the series.

The camera angles don't help it either. Muse Asia has a toned down version of some shots, cutting out
those stills of Momo getting caught and her clothes torn to just the first part of her running, and also removes the shot of them forcing her legs open
I heard that the Jump editors really want stuff to attract an audience and ask the mangaka to put a bit of it in in the first chapters.
I'm pretty sure the "it" bit was the fan service but at this point I wouldn't be surprised if it was also some SA.
That said, the disclaimer is real : the first ep is questionable in terms of skeevy stuff, but tapers off pretty quickly.
Yeah it sucks that the show will always have that hanging over it whenever you talk about it with someone new. I wish they had toned that scene down more. But the first episode is the closest it ever gets to that and the rest of the story is excellent.

That bit with Occult-kun waving around the flashlight in the tunnel was so good and so unnecessary, a total flex.

The initial problem stuff is wildly out of character and tone for the rest of the show.

The main thing I've heard about this series is how out of place the start is with the rest of it, is there any reason they couldn't have changed it for the anime?

it isnt what happens.
what happens is referencing alien abductions
its the way the "camera" leers about it.
later on the entire story is totally action panelled
