What are the Jekyll and Hyde liquors supposed to be? Like a red licorice black licorice thing?
Kind of? I think the red is a berry or cherry flavor - very cough syrup reminiscent. The black was a super sweet licorice - I like licorice a lot and drink a lot of anise liqueurs, but this had that cloying sweetness to it.
The official serving suggestion was also to consume them as a layered shot, and let me tell you, that did not make any part of the experience better.
I’ve always been curious if Malort just tastes like our traditional malört flavored akvavits or if it’s some extra horrible creation
Fairly similar - it's based on similar recipes, it's just kind of mutated into its own thing over the years.
Jeppson's Malört has a particular unpleasant aftertaste that I've not encountered in other wormwood liqueurs. My suspicion is that it is because of a quality of ingredients or similar.

it's a liqueur, i just chose to compare it to the worst beers i've had bc i think they were worse than the worst liquors i've had

TIL Malort really is a liqueur
the liquors and liquids that comprised the drink formed like, the platonic ideal of a mixed drink
it was like a gargleblogger bandersnatch in hitchhiker's guide
Like having your head smashed in with a gold brick wrapped with a lemon slice?
Strawberry.
Chocolate.
Century egg.
Vinegar.
Turkey gravy.
in other words god it's so good
