Here it's basically X-Play, Attack of the Show, Leo Laporte's "The Lab", Call for Help, Cheat, and that other review show with Victor Lucas and either Talrico or that guy from Gametrailers.com (Electric Playground / Reviews on the Run). Then there's one old anime show called Lupin the Third -- that's pretty much it as far as I know.
It's not award-winning television, but I like X-play, and Electric Playground/Reviews on the run, as Adam Sessler and Victor Lucas are both great reviewers respectively. Leo Laporte is great at solving computer problems and introducing people to new programs/tech/ways of doing things and stuff like open source software. Kevin Pierra can also be at least mildly amusing -- although Attack of the Show was a lot better two years ago as much as some people hated Kevin Rose and crew.
There's no Star Trek though, or Fastlane, COPS, Cinematech, Ninja Warrior etc.
In fact the only criticism I have is that they could use a few more shows to round out the programming schedule -- maybe an interview show ala The Bonus Round on Gametrailers.com....hell just steal everything Gametrailers.com does and put it on cable television . Also, it needs some kind of competitive gaming show -- it doesn't have to be Korean level competitive gaming, but just a cool show with maybe some prizes and an audience and stuff with cool hosts and a chill atmosphere that keeps it as cool as it can be and not as lame as it definitely could be. And how about a documentary style show where they follow dev teams from pre-production to release, visit head offices, get previews, investigate new tech, I dunno...surely there's lots of possible shows for this kind of channel they could explore.

So basically... Nick Arcade work for you? Or at least Nick Arcade, 2007 Edition? (For hosts, it'd have to be Adam Sessler and Olivia Munn- we have Adam/Morgan paired up, Kevin/Olivia, Morgan/Kevin, so Adam and Olivia would be it just to even out the workload.)

I have a new soccer blog The Minnow Tank. Reading it psychically kicks Sepp Blatter in the bean bag.

Our G4 has one or two shows that relate to technology, one off-beat sports show, star trek, and a bunch of shows targeted at adolescent male teens.
The only show I even watch on g4 is ninja warrior. It's a great show. The flip side of all the negative shitty "reality" shows in america.
They cheer each other on and it's an actual accomplishment, with real stories behind each person.
Attack of the show is utter toss. Sure they cover some good stuff but the hosts are massive douchebag morons. I still have no idea who that girl is. It's just painful to watch......
and that commercial they have about "it's not for newbs!"
give me a fucking break.. that's what it's for people who need help keeping up with things.

My favorite moment on that show, hands down, is when Nagano finally became the second man to ever achieve Total Victory. The other "all-stars" hefted him up in celebration... and then tossed him in the water.
G4TechTV Canada also have Torrent I think. At least we did at one point but I'm not sure if they've stopped making it since all the other shows kind of migrated to Vancover.
P.S. Amber MacArthur was way better than any of those G4 ladies

I only know this because I accidentally tuned in one day but apparently AOTS has some sort of semi-regular sex advise segment. At least it seemed like the guest had been on before from the way she and Olivia were talking. God, even thinking about AOTS makes me want to scrub off my skin with steel wool to feel clean. Does anyone else feel like smacking that Kevin guy? I always get that holier-than-thou attitude from the guy.
I do like X-Play and while the jokes can run very rampant, there actually seems to be some sort of effort put into the show. It is also G4's highest rated show and it's the only survivor from TechTV. I will leave you to draw your own conclusions about what that means.
Alright, who else remember the Surf Guru from the show Internet Tonight back when it was ZDTV? He was dressed as a security guard. I have fond memories of his segments.
It's not like if TechTV was left alone it would be any worse off. Sure the programming might be less retarded but the channel was never really marketable in the States. Too specific a market on too few TVs in the US.
That being said G4 could be doing a LOT better. Xplay, some anime, some trek, some tech shows, some more anime, some more tech shows, and tons of Ninja Warrior and people would be watching it. Instead every time I turn it on I can feel the suck. I fully expect it to be E2 the final frontier by fall.
Psst... the fucker who played weasley crusher owns/created G4. No wonder it's total shit. (He also is completely surrounded by sycophants.)
I remember seeing ZDnet on my dad's old cable. (Old less than 100 channel's' cable. Back in the ninties.) It wasn't on so I watched.. and watched. Hell, I was quiet watching a blank screen.
Well it came on and I was.. wondering. I watched and it was good. Ahh.. it was always good. I watched TSS religiously, and as I had no internet access, I wanted to watch it because I was computerless and it also got me into anime.
However, when G4 started I knew it was crap - G4 was a east coast station that was crap and I was notified of this on another forum. (Sadly dead.) well, eventually I tired of it. At first it was 'E! Technology' or some analgram of that. Decent. then the new shows came on and I had to turn it.
Personally It's one of the true crimes on earth, and the asshole who founded G4 needs .... fuck it. If I said more I'd get banned.
Here's a tip: before you just start shooting shit out of your ass onto a post, try actually checking your facts. Hey, Wikipedia doesn't mention G4 at all in Wil Wheaton's article. Imagine that.
Most senseless merger, ever. The Screen Savers had potential to be a huge, mainstream show. It was right on the edge when it was completely fucked up. In late 2003 Leo and Patrick did a two day appearance at a local mall (atlanta area). They were there on Sat and Sun, talking to people and signing autographs for 2 hours each day. On both days the line stretched for half the length of the mall and back again. A 3 hour wait for a 2 hour appearance. You could just see that they had the chemistry it takes to become extremely popular, beyond the bounds of geekdom. And then along came G4.
Has any one seen the final fantasy retrospectives on game videos? They each last about 15-20 minutes and are just amazing and very in depth. Why can't a tv station dedicated to the video games pull of something like that?

I'm pretty sure all the good people from TechTV are doing fairly successful podcasts now.

And Kevin Rose co-owning Digg, which will probably make him an assload of cash when they eventually sells it.
We used to watch TechTv all the time till Comcast started messing with it - one of the first things they did was shut down international broadcasting. That is one of the bad things about being liking American shows or channels, their success or failure is entirely outside of our hands.
Happily the podcasting era came along at about the same moment, or a few months later.
What gets me is that the merger called for Leo's/Patrick's/Yoshi's, etc. firings. Even if their shows were canceled, they were veterans with a fan base and should have been at the most reshuffled around, not let go.
Fresh Gear and Extended Play were my favorite shows.
Can anyone explain to me what the Spock market was all about? I saw it several times in previews a year or two back and, to my understanding, they shrank the episodes to half size and filled the borders with ads.
can you consider it firing? I mean, Pat didn't want to leave his wife in SF, Leo didn't want to leave SF either. Leo actually has a percentage of CFH so he got to take it with him. Yoshi....is a different story. They brought him over, overworked the crap out of him (things like a brand new mod each day, the X-Station, etc.) and then he got canned. But I think he's better not working for that hellhole.

Hell, if the site even has a single ad spot on it(I don't visit digg much, so I don't remember if it does) it's probably making him an assload of cash as we speak.
Fuck, he's probably sitting on a comfortable single asscheekload even without ads.

Well, he's said that the company isn't turning much of a profit yet, what with all the development and bandwith costs.
But I know there have been a couple offers to buy it, each one bigger than the last. I'm just waiting to here a story "Yahoo buys Digg for $Texas".

Just proof that most TV these days is going down the shitter with the speed of a fucking rocket.
Also, from what I hear from the higher ups at work, either Spike or G4 MAY be doing something in the Six Flags where I work/cry like a woman. If this is the case, it's just further proof that Six Flags is indeed a portal to the dark, twisted layers of Hell.

This is the type of thing I would like to watch. Through a link if possible thanks.
I think that the biggest problem with g4 as a whole is that they skew all the material to a pre-teen or teenaged crowd. The whole thing comes off as too stiff and sanitary.
Also X-Play really tries too hard with their humor. and that Adam Sessler guy always looks like he still has the hanger in his shirt.
I can't stand the soul-less Indian-girl-with-the-British-accent who does the "actual game news" or whatever. Whenever they cut to her, my eyes glaze over.

it's on Gametrailers, and it's very well done. They've done, IIRC, Metroid series, Final Fantasy Series, Legend of Zelda series

Just go to gametrailers.com and do a search for "Zelda" for those.

I miss Cinematech. Why do they feel the need to have all these annoying hosts? Kevin Pafuckfuck's mouth is so small and drawn that it makes him look like a corpse.
