As a fan of the Los Angeles Metro, I am a fan of what the Olympics has allowed the city to accomplish in the last 4-5 years.

But also LA has always been a bit of an outlier in how the city approached the games, one of the few to actually use it for long term benefit instead of burning a big pile of money.

It also helps that Los Angeles kept using and maintaining the facilities it built for the Olympics, allowing other athletic events to bring in money afterwards

i saw an article today about how a convicted child rapist in netherland is competing on their team for volleyball, so that's a "cool" thing that they're allowing to happen.

Aurora's album version of A Soul With No King didn't really appeal to me, but the live version is amazing (especially after the 2 minute mark).

From what I've seen, LA and London are two of the only places that made a real effort to create spaces that could be incorporated into public/continued use after the games. And maybe Beijing. I think some of those facilties get use, but that's outside of my radar. A lot of places do these one-off, out-of-the-way facilities that turn out to be supr garbage for public use later and cost the city $$$$$$$. I've always felt like the metric for choosing a pitch should be "here's how we've upgraded current facilites and integrated planned facitilies to be a long-term boon for the area" rather than "here's how we can throw money at this in the most flamboyant way possible but nobody will care in three years."

Our bid this time was basically "we're going to use all of the IOC money to build out our metro system" and hang up some banners I guess or something, don't worry about it.

That explains why they're outsourcing the canoeing and softball events to OKC. It sounds like a pretty good plan! I feel kinda bad for the canoeists and softballers, though.

They just jump into how the war started in June 25 1950 with the NDK invasion of the south. I had wished they would have done the lead up to the war Starting with the Japanese occupation of Korea [in the late 1890's into early 1900's and the various efforts that spang up in the 1920's to resist it

Indy and Time Ghost's whole concept (which he's done with both World Wars now) is to cover the war week by week, to give a better idea of how the actual conflict flows in roughly real time. That said, they usually do supporting specials getting into background on the conflict as well.

I'm about to move to a new place with an actual dishwasher, so of course Youtube decided to serve up this video of dishwasher tips. And, against my better judgement, I watched it.
Turns out out it was surprisingly informative and now there's some stuff I'm also going to inform my parents to check.

Is this your first encounter with a Technology Connections video?

Because "Surprisingly Informative" only really applies to the first of his videos you see. After that they're all just "incredibly, but expectedly, informative."

This stranger character is actually the Ted Faro of this series and he started the robot apocalypse because fuck ya'll.

Now with that as a subject I desired to see, the youtube app is giving me Shirley Fucking Temple in blackface. And other actresses in blackface.

I also never liked the powder, but I've had great luck with the straight up liquid over the tabs/pods.

    Scorn was just neat!

Like I just straight-up had a nice time playing that game. Combat was tedious but I managed to get almost everything by circle-strafing and the world was just so lovingly gross to walk around in.

35$ for a bot than can self scan and map your stomach that a Doctor can control from home with a controller, so you don't have to go to a hospital and get an endoscopy.

Scorn was perfectly fine if not for the combat which was raw dumb bad that didn’t have the courtesy to at least be reasonably easy

Yeah, I loved the visuals and vibes in Scorn, and was all down for it playing like a 90s first person adventure game which was its start, but the combat was just... frustrating. And difficult enough to detract from its other qualities.

I appreciate that reviewer's perspective and have a huge amount of respect for the developer, but I feel that calling the combat "survival horror" is just plastering over the combat being Bad. There was a section early on where the game autosaved the game, with me at fuck all health and almost out of bullets, right before a big combat section. It must've taken me 45 minutes of banging my head against fighting multiple enemies with two bullets and the shitty melee until I finally got through it to the next checkpoint. And no, I couldn't run past them, because there was a "now sit here and do this slow interaction" bit I'd get killed doing.

I finally gave up a few hours later when I repeatedly got killed by a charger in a narrow corridor where it was 50/50 whether there was enough room to physically avoid the charge.

Yeah the combat is irredeemable. It’s almost impossible to do without endless retries just trying to get the ai stuck long enough to kill them. And having basically no ammo isn’t survival horror. Survival horror should make you feel like you’re constantly on the edge of running out of supplies. In scorn you basically can’t afford to miss, you don’t feel like you’re on the edge of running out of supplies, you just have no ammo, ever

And on top of that while the visuals and world is cool, the combat looks and feels terrible. It would be one thing if it felt and looked cool but had razor thin resources. But it’s both a terrible experience on a tactile level and balanced so that you can miss like 2 shots before fucking your self

So many new developers and indie devs over tune their combat to be difficult not realising that it also has to be engaging and fun, more so the more difficult you make it frankly. It doesn’t paper over issues it makes them worse. I can’t imagine how many people turned the game off after the first combat encounter, it’s that bad
