I'd rather deal with Southern summers than Northern winters

The problem with Northern winters is the gray

Colorado gets colder, temporarily, but still warms up to t-shirt weather many days in winter cause of the sun

Everyone always gets this question wrong. The question isn't, which one is easier to fix, the question is: Would you rather be shivering or have sweat run down the crack of your ass? If you aren't doing either of those things you aren't answering the question. I don't get cold though. You will at -80C. I don't get hot, try 40C at 100% humidity. Put yourself in those situations and imagine which one is worse.

In my case i would rather turn my taint into a swamp then be mildly chilly.

I don't think I've ever experienced -80 C, I have definitely been in higher than 40 C but it was no humidity. So I can't really imagine either.

hmm, thinking about it more I guess I'd say I'd rather be a little too cold than a little too hot, but assuming no like physical damage and death I'd probably rather be in extreme heat than extreme cold

I stupidly put myself into a situation in college where I was spending my winters in upstate NY followed by summers in DC/Virginia. Based on those experiences I absolutely prefer the cold, although a lot of that is because my roommates and I couldn't afford the electric bill if we actually used our apartment's central air in DC.

Now I've lived in Seattle for 20+ years, where the temperature is almost always pretty tolerable, although like a lot of people around here I don't have A/C at all, so August can be pretty brutal even if temps rarely reach the extremes that they do in other parts of the country

I've experienced -25F with windchill bringing it down to about -40. Gotta say? Not a fan of having a driblet of snot come out of my nose and then freeze to my fucking skin in less than three seconds.

If I have to choose between some uncomfortable temperature, I'd rather sweat. I can always cool off but I can never get or stay warm.

I'm on blood pressure medication which I recently learned my body temp is kind of low, 96.7 or thereabouts.

    I am always too cold.

  • PinfeldorfPinfeldorf Yeah ZestRegistered User regular
I have gone through 3 days of having no air conditioning when it was 112, 116 and 114 outside, and I have gone through 3 days of having no heat when it was 29, 27 and 30 outside. At no point during the cold snap did I feel like I needed anything but more clothes or blankets. When my AC broke summer of 2022, I spent $300 on a portable swamp cooler and lived with my dogs in my bedroom for 3 days because it was the only space small enough I could keep below 90 with what I had. I will take the cold every time and never second guess myself.

If we're not talking about being able to fix the problem with more/less clothing, then I'll take the heat

I hate the feeling of shivering to my bones, but I can sort of luxuriate in the melting heat as long as I'm expecting it

    Surprise heat? No thank you

My brain becomes non-functional in the cold. World is dead, curl up in a blanket and lie down all day

Earlier today I was cycling in 90F heat and feeling great, energized me to keep on job searching and not doing the aforementioned curling up in a blanket all day

I can deal with being uncomfortably hot, but being cold sucks.

I admittedly live in a place that rarely gets to 30°C so I’ve never had to suffer through extreme unrelenting heat.

People have often told me that I am hot and cold.

And when they do I reply without lowering my eyes to them, "Oh, really?... And who are you, exactly...?", while sweat rolls down my rugged pectorals, visible through my billowing blouse.

Too cold is both addressable by layers but also genuinely better in colder climes because you get more blue skies in winter, which is better for seasonal depression

The last few years of warmer weather have meant more grey days here which is exponentially worse, and this year was so warm you couldn't even do most proper winter sports either (they generally boost morale)

I'd definitely rather be hot than cold, but realistically if the ambient temperature is' like half a degree above or below 78, I'm probably complaining about it.

Hot definitely. I can get through my day being too hot by just periodically saying "It's hot as balls". But if I'm cold enough to shiver I can't think about anything else.

So the question is shivering vs sweating as temp control reactions

Sweating if I’m not at work and don’t have to worry about sweatmarks

My son must hold some sort of world record for shortest time from entering the house to being in his underwear. Not that i blame him, but it is funny.
