While the last Indiana jones was so so it did kind of surprisingly hit me hard with the early scenes of Harrison as a lonely old forgotten professor that the world has kind of moved past and forgot. Those early scenes kind of rocked me

At that point I thought
that they might actually end the film that way
Indy stays behind, and the others leave, but then his Goddaughter finds an account of Skylos Ioannes in some old scrolls, that show that he had a happy life before dying of old age, but not before giving clues to something important, boom sequel hook
I'm glad that they didn't, but Ford's performance swept me up in why he would want to make that decision

The Philadelphia Film Society posted their curated screenings for the rest of the year; the movies I'm thinking I'm going to go see on the big screen include:
Purple Rain
Eraserhead
The Monster Squad
Speed Racer
The Fall
RRR
A six movie Rocky marathon
Tokyo Godfathers
The Thing
All About Eve
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Alien (they're also showing Aliens but I'm less excited about Aliens)
They're also showing The Florida Project but I'll be out of town, and they're showing Lawrence of Arabia, which might be worth seeing on the big screen, but I'm admittedly less excited about
All in all, a great couple months at the movies; every three months PFS announces their screenings for the quarter and singlehandedly justifies my yearly membership

Some cool stuff this month from Vinegar Syndrome and their partner labels, but I want to make sure @Straightzi is aware that Murder Party will be out on blu ray for the first time later this month with multiple audio commentaries and a bunch of other extras.
Attributing The Lawnmower Man to Stephen King is very funny to me.
I'm not so sure Mr. King would share the same feeling though...
From a possessed killer car (Christine) to an experiment in virtual reality gone wrong (the very loosely adapted The Lawnmower Man) to a searing portrait of a dysfunctional mother-daughter relationship (Dolores Claiborne), Stephen King has given more tales of terror to the cinema than virtually any other writer. This selection of deep-cut gems from the vast galaxy of films adapted from his works demonstrate how virtuosic storytelling can make the leap from page to screen with shock and suspense fully intact.
'Loosely' is certainly one way of putting it.

My theater does not have The Substance. It does however, have Am I Racist?, Vindicating Trump, Reagan, and The Forge. To be fair and balanced, it DID get Megalopolis and is getting Look Back next week, it's just shockingly dire here right now.

My co-worker sent me the link and said it's Collette and Hoult on the same screen for the first time since About A Boy and I was kind of 'oh cool' and then they added '22 years ago' and now I want to punch them.

It was the body horror.
I was too scared to watch The Witches for a long time because of the book illustrations. You thought Quentin Blake just did quirky scribbles and goofy-looking uglies like the Twits and George's grandma, and then BAM, Grand High Witch's horrific face living in your brain forever.

I was just reading a thread here about Airplane and I can’t find it now but it caused me to preorder that 4k box set of Airplane, Naked Gun, and Top secret.
out of morbid curiosity I looked at a NYT article on the failure of Megalopolis in theaters, and holy jeeze this author has their lips locked around Coppola's member. Lamenting that there are other forms of mass entertainment available than movies these days, as that is clearly the reason that audiences are now too brain-damaged to appreciate Coppola's special super genius greatness. Woe betide the death of art!
I think the failure at theatres is not really interesting, it was never a commercial movie. The divisiveness among critics is interesting. Even though who love it describe it with caveats.
Don't spend $120m of your own money when you're going to be really, really high during every step of the process imho. And don't grope extras, although I'm sure most people who declined to see it didn't know about that.

However, I would absolutely fuck with Ron Perlman as Hellboy getting tangled up in a Benoit Blanc mystery.

I think if Rian Johnson was in more of his Brick mode than his Star Wars or Knives Out modes, he could make a great low-key Hellboy movie
But yeah honestly just let him make his movies, don't shackle him to intellectual properties unless he feels like dipping in

It’s too bad about the remake though. It just didn’t have any of the charm.
I need deets. Spoil me. What caused them to walk out? Was it all at once or a slow trickle.
Was it the "Go back to the cluuuuuuuuuurb" line?
