Ok, this is kind of last minute, but not all that important so if I dont get an answer in time, no worries.
Im leaving for hawaii tomorrow morning, I haven't flown in like 10 years. According to my friend (who likes to lie out his ass alot) said that because Hawaii is technically not out of the country they dont have to feed us even though its somethin like a 12 hour flight. So he suggested I bring food with me. I was planning on taking a lunchables or two with me to eat whenever I feel like it.
What I would like to know is if any of that is true, and if it is, will I be allowed to bring the lunchables on the plane in my carryon? I havent flown since 9/11 so I havent experienced all the security hikes, so I have no idea what to expect.
As for food, I don't think it being a national flight precludes them from offering food. If it's 12 hours, I'm pretty they're obliged to offer something.
I've flown plenty within Canada, and I've gotten food a number of times. Shorter flights offer snacks, but one of that length should have a fucking meal.
However, it is an American Airline, and all of those are fucking horrible. I really feel bad for you guys down there. The airline companies are just fucking unbelievable. Canada ain't much better, but we have a couple good ones.
It completely depends upon the airline. They aren't required to give you shit, but whether they do or not depends on their individual policy. If you check the e-mail you got when you booked it, or even call the airline, they should tell you.
It's generally a good idea to bring your own food, anyhow, because airline food is shitty.
They will feed you on a flight to Hawaii, probably twice.
However airline food is terrible, unless you are in first on an international flight - in that case it is outstanding. So, take your own food anyway, just don't try and take liquids with you - they will confiscated them. I usually pack a couple of sandwiches. The people around you eating warmed up ick supplied by the airlines will be looking at your sandwiches with envy...
Drinks should be free on any non-discount carrier to Hawaii, except alcoholic drinks. So you will be good for tea/coffee, soda, juices etc.
I've taken six-hour flights from California to Hawaii on United and Northwest and they didn't feed us.
Thanatos is right, it depends on the airline.
I always pack Clif bars with me when I travel anywhere. It's just a good idea to pack some kind of food, because you never know when you're going to be caught by a delayed flight or a layover or something in an airport wing where your only options are Burger King and $10 ham sandwiches.
Feral on
every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.
I fly with American Airlines a lot, and I've always gotten food depending on how long the flight is. If it's just from, say, Mississippi to Jersey, then it's just a snack and stuff, you know? Trans-Atlantic, on the other hand, gave us movie after movie and a fucking dinner!
if your lunchables has a drink they prolly will make you take the drink out, maybe the dipping sauces too.
Take like baked Lays and a couple of sandwiches instead.
Yeah I knew about the liquids thing, so if I got lunchables it would be the cheap dollar ones that just have crackers meat and cheese. But I love me some lunchables every now and then so that doesnt bother me.
If they do offer a meal, Ill probly eat my lunchables instead because It might have been a while, but the last time I had airline food it was pretty sick.
Ok, so for my carry-on I plan on packing into my backpack 4-5 books, a change of clothes, lunchables, and my MP3 player and accessories. Is any of that prohibited? I kinda doubt it, but since they wont let you have shampoo anymore I really dont know. Also, I dont know shit about electronics and how they work, I can just operate them, will my MP3 player be ok with the x-ray scanner, or do I need to make the people aware that its there so they can take it out and check it?

Well, I didn't take an MP3 player, but when I flew with my DS last month I just left it in my carry-on and sent it through the x-ray machine and everything was fine. I assume an iPod wouldn't be too different, but they definitely won't get mad if you just keep it in your pocket as you get to security and then put it in the bucket. Afterwards there's nothing stopping you from putting it in your bag.

You don't have to declare anything, as long as it's not a weapon. Just leave it in your carry-on or throw it in a tray on the conveyor belt. The weak x-ray machine they use for carry on luggage will not hurt any form of electronics. The x-rays they use for checked luggage are stronger, but are not a danger to anything (except undeveloped camera film).
They offered $5 sandwiches that were really fricking good on my Air Canada flight from Toronto to Vancouver. Expensive, yah, but easier than packing my own shit.

If you want to make sure though, you can take anything that you purchase past security on the plane with you, and that includes soda.

It really depends on the plane company.
