Currently got my van battery hooked up to the mains to charge. Had to do it last night as well but by this morning it was dead again. Hoping if I leave it disconnected overnight it'll keep its charge, and if I just disconnect it every time I get out I can at least keep using it without getting stranded, while I figure out what the problem is.
To be clear.... You don't have your DC 12v van battery hooked up to your AC 220v house electricity directly, right? You have some charging device involved?
So i got confirmation that they gave my position at work to someone else after i got forced into my medical leave. This is probally part of why they dont seem to want to let me come back as this would be in violation of our union contract which says you get a year after going on leave to come back and you get your position back.
Not really sure what to do with the information tho.
HR has said that despite what they said last year, they will again be unable to do performance-based raises for the tech department this year. Meaning that once again there's no point in meeting goals or caring about evals as long as you're not at the "you're getting fired" point.
This is an identical repeat of the last several years.

Won't the union fight for you here? Letting a company break aunion contract is a bad precedent to set.

As I understand it if the ADA stuff ends up letting me come back to work and they then say I can't have my old position back the union would get involved cause at that point the contract has been breached. But the union has no say in if I am approved to go back to work as thats between HR, the ADA guy, and me so its not breached if I am not allowed back to work. Hence me thinking that part of the reason they are asking for tons of info and stuff now that my restrictions are lighter is to find a reason to deny me coming back.

Have you contacted your union on this yet, though? Not sure about the US, but you should have the right to have a union rep in any management meeting. If they filled your role and that's a breach of process, the union should *absolutely* be involved. They may have access to legal support for you.

I personally haven't had any meetings I would need a rep for since the ADA guy talks to my work and then tells me what the results of the meeting were and where to go from there. I used to try and talk to my union about stuff when I first got put on leave but it always ended in me being ghosted after the first call to talk to a steward and I have run out of numbers I know to call. To be honest my local union is not very good at this point. It used to be pretty good but when covid hit most of the leadership quit or left for better paying jobs (which I don't fault them for. State run nursing homes do not pay that great). And the people who have ran after them seem to be mostly in it for themselves as exemplified by our local president trying to get a contract declined because it didn't benefit her personally enough.

If the battery doesn't drain to 0 while the vehicle is operating, chances are pretty good it's just a dying battery.

Can’t sleep because I have Covid and it can’t decide to make me super hot or super cold.
I have to be up in 5 and a half hours to work a 10 hour shift on the phones with the public and I can’t call in sick because my sick pay balance is like 1 hour because I have to use it on Kid’s appointments or when they’re sick.
And I can’t take time off without pay without getting in trouble.
I’m DREADING tomorrow
Oh yeah, even if I could take it unpaid I can’t afford to miss a full day of work when my oldest is going in for dental surgery tomorrow that’s going to cost over $1000 AFTER my insurance and I have some of the best insurance you can get.
It covid decided to take me in my sleep it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world right now.

Oh I used to have to do that to my van: unhook the battery from the circuit whenever I planned on stopping for more than a half hour. There was a short somewhere that would drain it down slowly. While running, the alternator had no trouble keeping the charge up, but left off overnight it would be completely dead the next morning.

Yeah I'm guessing something like that is going on. Only I left it disconnected overnight and it was dead again this morning. Tried charging it again, no bueno. Tried jump starting it and that didn't work either.
Dashboard lights work but it's not even clicking when I try to start it. Going to have to take it to a mechanic but in order to do that I need to get it started. Gah I fucking hate vehicles.
I know everyone means well and it's with total kindness, but I'm on like day 8 of some chuckle fuck poking their head in my office and going "huh, when are you going to decorate?"
Some day, seems like a low priority.

Get a bunch of fake blood and spray it all over and when they ask next time just say, “Yes I have”
Working in a transportation adjacent (ie Tires) industry and coming off the back of a devastating hurricane and then rolling right into a seaport strike has got me feeling some kinda way.

Last time it happened to me I bought a 12v battery tester from Amazon so I could report to the company that I bought the battery from whether there was a fault with it or not as it was causing issues within a year of purchase. Turned out when I swapped my stereo over from stock I'd installed the component that deals with media controls on the steering wheel which is only on the Subaru version of my car so it was constantly draining trying to interface with something that wasn't there.
But I've used it since to diagnose a faulty battery with other people's cars -- it'll let you know when something just needs charging or whether the cells have reduced capacity from a fault.

I had a battery that was maybe 6 months old crap out on me recently (the place I took it to verified it was the battery and a new new one fixed the problem immediately), sometimes shit's just straight defective

Okay, come do that. I'll put the kettle on for when you get here.
I am 30 minutes into this work teams meeting and my work issued ipad, which was full charged at the start, is already at 60% battery
It’s tired of the bullshit too.
The work phone I use to do things like bin freight and clock in if it's a usual day I get it down to 80% or so if it's a bad less than 60% if really bad less than 30%

I have never spoken with a people who can simultaneously be so extremely insulting and argumentative but also good natured. It always feels like a little bit of a standoff between the "cowboys" and the "whatever-the-French-see-themselves-as".
I don't think I've had a meeting with them where I didn't come out of it feeling at least a little bit like an idiot.
I mean, I am an idiot I am stupid as hell I just don't like feeling like one.
