“Stop answering people’s question in the chat like you know what you’re doing because you give the wrong answer half the time but you give it with enough conviction that people believe you.”
HAHA the support super power. Bullshit with conviction. One must use the power wisely.
Copilot says you should say "In the interest of accuracy and effective communication, please ensure that the responses provided are thoroughly verified before sharing. Misinformation can unintentionally undermine credibility, despite the confidence with which it is conveyed."
This application I’m working on…The person X’d out the “Are you of Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin” and wrote AMERICAN over it
I picture this person violating paperwork rituals quite frequently
also, crossing out 666's on barcodes and legal forms. a thing I heard of at costco eyeglass shop

Ongoing saga of my stupid van. Got a new battery today, was a pig to fit in despite the website saying it would fit. In the process managed to snap a small cable that comes off of the negative terminal. Van started and everything seems to work so I have no idea what it's for. Guess I'll have to take it to a mechanic again. So fucking sick of this.

Electrical issues in vehicles are the WORST. I'm so sorry.
If it was connected to the negative terminal it was probably just a ground wire
Should be a an easy fix
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat

Hmm, thanks. That does look like the right thing. I've just ordered the part to have a go at fixing it myself. Expect to hear from my lawyers when inevitably it all goes tits up.
if you're setting up a reporting cadence that can not be easily changed you should probably make sure that the smaller reports that bubble up into larger more important reports happen at least as often as the big reports
and most importantly are reported before the big reports
because hearing year after year, "when are we getting the updated numbers on this?" weeks before we'll even get a first look at the report is definitely not headache inducing
Old person workplace problems:
My back seized on me when I twisted to move a box. Plus side is that I made the supervisor stay late filling out a report.
Still not worth it.

This is one of those godforsaken weeks where the days I'm vitally required to do the job of a librarian and the days where I have to attend meetings mean I'm spreading my 40 hours across all seven days.
I have to say, if you're only going in for 2 or 3 hours, 2-5 is the worst possible chunk of time. You technically have most of the day off, but the morning is completely useless because You Have Something To Do Later and by the time you get home the day is pretty much over.
10-12 is obviously the best, you get to sleep in and you pretty much have to grab a good lunch out as a reward. 8-10 or 11 isn't bad, it's an invigorating start and then the rest of the day is your own. Hell, I'm working 8-1 on Saturday and I'd rather do that every time than horrible no-good fuckin' 2-5.

I hate Waiting Mode. It's why I try to schedule all my appointments and interviews in the morning.
I’m just picturing the guy filling out the app and getting pissed about the question because “this is ‘MERICA” and the crossing it out.
You know, I've actually wondered for this my entire life. My Mom is from South Dakota (Irish family) and my father is Pakistani, born and raised in Karachi.
My entire life I've never been sure if what to mark on the ethnicity question. I remember thinking about this during standardized testing in elementary school.
Obviously I am not Hispanic, I got that down. But, White or Caucasian? That's not accurate. Neither was, 'Southeast Asian'.
Honestly, I consider myself an American and wonder if we will ever see that as an ethnicity option?
As I get older, I think about how it was actually pretty cool to see the dawn of a new millennium. At the time I could not have given any less of a shit
Jugs, I am really thinking about following your example and getting out of manufacturing. My patience with being the only truly competent person in my work cell is long gone, and doing this is slowly killing me.
How's your working experience been since you changed that up?
Homie I gotta tell ya straight
I wish I had the opportunity to do this years ago. I actually really do appreciate my time working in the shit because it gave me a certain work ethic and competency that is surprisingly rare. I also can appreciate more what I'm doing because of what I did. But the toll it takes on your body is disastrous, especially if you do swings like I did.
There are downsides like every job. Some things are menial, annoying or frustrating. I sit too much these days. Constantly having to be in meetings that don't really involve me can be tedious. But also I'm not operating off 3 hours of sleep, work 14+ hour shifts, having to literally clean my own blood off the floor, or some combination of all three of those things any more.
I still keep the last pair of gloves I wore on my last shift in a little shadow box at my desk to remind me it could be WAY worse than sending an email to an airhead.
Ignore the empty terrarium thing. I'm still trying to figure out what to put in it. I don't think I want to do a succulent, I kinda want to put a little Ultramarine eviscerating a tyranid in it. Anyway, I got lucky and made the move within my own company, so I retained my tenure and benefits. I don't know if that's a possibility for you but if so, go for it. 100%.
Damn this rules. I kept my hard hat from when I stopped working underground. I keep it at home as reminder of where I came from and which people really matter
One of my teammates, who is not stationed at, or responsible for anything at the warehouse where I work with two other teammates, just cannot help themselves from fucking with stuff at this warehouse.
Everyone's getting pissed off
I've asked this dude to knock of the fuck off dozens of times since they joined the team
My cowardly lazy over extended supervisor is either encouraging this dude to help out or is too cowardly/lazy/over extended to do anything, so I guess I'll bring this up on our team call this morning
I hate doing this sort of thing, I've had background anxiety about doing this exact thing for a month
But he closed a premade inventory count this morning, so there's an example fresh enough that everyone will know what's going on, so I guess today is the day
A PM sent an urgent ping in slack that notified the entire engineering team. I clicked the link to the ticket that he pasted in the message and got every answer without even scrolling down.
PM: What's the status of this ticket?
PM: When will this be released?
the QA team will prioritize testing this immediately after the 2024.Oct release
PM: So this won't be in the current release?
I'm off from Tuesday next week. I need to keep things civil.

The one about the fucking space hairdresser and the cowboy. He's got a tinfoil pal and a pedal bin
The individual teammate from the other site who habitually fucks around with inventory records and processes for the site I work at just deflected everything, as did my supervisor
When I'm hiring I'm pretty diligent about looking at resume's as they come in. But to avoid making it seem like the review was automated, I schedule rejection notices to go out 24 hours later. You probably caught them at the right/ wrong time.

There's not a South Asian option?
Also, did you grow up like me assuming that every brown person will help you if you ask?
American is a nationality not an ethnicity (especially within the context of a question on a form in America) so no that probably won't become an option anytime soon

Time for me to turn to dust
For a while now, I've been saying that "I come from the 20th century."
I, too, was born in the late 1900s.

My first thought was to assume the applicant was like, "I'm American, what does it matter?"
The racist angle only occurred to me later.

Eight whole minutes for the HireGPT to decline, huh?

I am very happy I got to explain how it tests for laziness and lack of creativity
