I had a poll but the fucking forum ate it! I had to pull another one outta my ass.

I had my first poll ready and good to go at like, 2:06AM KST.

Anyway this poll is better so I would like to renounce my later poll, even though it was mine by rights

I didnt do this to hurt you Eddy

I plan to do that in an effort post demeaning all art as fruitless, hopeless toil, communicating only pain with no hope of ever lifting each other to truly enlightened heights

Thanks to that Mad Men line about Don Draper only being interested in the beginnings of things, I've spent the past like 30 minutes trying to write an effortpost about Taylor Swift, connecting her obsession with the chase of falling in love with both Kafka's story about an amateur philosopher only being interested in a top as it spun, and Tolkien's strange love of the unnameable/unknowable despite his own obsession with a sort of completeness and categorization

But then the forum deleted it with the closure of the thread and then I was picked to make a new one and I accidentally closed the poll I was making about Your Favorite Emo Song and now everything is ruined.

I'll spend the rest of my life chasing another Geth selection...

I cribbed from Vulture's top 10 (out of their top 100)

    https://www.vulture.com/article/best-emo-songs.html

I actually hugely disagree with their top 10. HOP ALONG?! What the actual fuck. But it would've been provocative.

(Doing pop-punk emo would've been too easy yet too controversial, what with five of the 10 songs being Brand New)

I sort of want to learn how to use lightroom or sophisticated photography software to get not this but the sort of pink and blue cyberpunk shit I see sometimes, or like teal and yellow

I don't quite get how it's done but I'm sure there's tutorials out there

That list is the most performatively hipster emo song list Ive ever seen

They put Paramore in the top ten, which is how I know their picks are performative and not based on avoiding pop emo

I was at a housewarming party (for 1.5 hours before needing to head out in order to make it to Beep’s sleep routine). This old buddy from high school I saw last 3 years ago but spent time with last must’ve been like 7 years ago. He and ANOTHER person from our old class are now together and expecting a baby. All I wanted to do was talk about baby stuff but I quickly noticed he was not in the mood for that subject. I’m not not disappointed!!

actually i really fuck with that top 10 and its a better overall list than i'd expect

yeah i'd get rid of hop along and probably drop paramore like 50 spots

lots of representation for the different subgenres and waves and its good that they resisted the urge to put in some boring pitchforkcore like interpol or the antlers

the biggest glaring omission for me is Into It. Over It not being on the list but they are mentioned so that's something

I couldn't quite put my finger on it but yeah it really does seem performative. Everyone says you have to have Rites of Spring in your top 10. But if you're putting Dashboard Confessional and Motion City Soundtrack and My Chemical Romance on there, you already know it's not just Fugazi anymore!

Both Vulture and Variety put American Baseball's Never Meant as the best emo song and I'm unconvinced, which is why I wanted to do the poll! Is American Baseball literally the greatest emo act of all time?! That sounds crazy!

also its best emo song, not best emo band!!

Never Meant is anthemic and all of LP 1 is genre defining but their comeback releases weren't great (Mike's side projects were better than any of the AF stuff released in that time)

are american football the best band? Nah. Did they release the best album? Also no. Did they release the best song? Absolutely

Oh shit, I haven't thought about The Used, Pedro the Lion, or Piebald in a hot minute (two of which performed at my college).

I listened to Bleed American recently. Those singles were played the fuck out back in the day, and I think the production/mastering kinda sucks, but it was a surprisingly enjoyable listen.
