I'm always torn between wanting to play the games being described and not wanting to know what they are because the posts are such delightful context free nonsense.

Against the storm's gameplay cycle feels a lot like FOBs established in the various Stargate shows. Stargate Atlantis most of all. Always on the back foot, always adapting to unknown threats. Fighting against the fog of war. Victory a concept based on not fucking up.
So if I were to have this game, it would basically be sending it into a new network, locking and loading to explore a planat and the region the stargate landed in before the SGC disengaged for reasons (black holes, starships, wraith attack, cyber swarm attack, shifting to another universe). Each smaller run a series of stories and people cycling back to the primary base. Maybe special missions with heroes and special modifiers. Combat less RTS and more.....Evil Genius?

This is usually the way to go with Ubi games in my experience.
25% off matches the current console versions' sale price, for what it's worth (although still works out cheaper on PC without the console tax), and I must admit I was hoping for 30%+ off. Right now I'd need to go console for it anyway, and on Deck it a) seems to need Windows (although I'm not certain on that point) and b) runs appallingly badly anyway while looking extremely ropey on such low settings, so no point there. It's one of the current batch of AAAs whose minimum spec is above what the Deck can comfortably manage so it's not like that's a shock.
If any patches have improved performance, I can't find any video of it. All the Deck tests are from around launch and everything else on YT at the moment is chud-y hot takes about how disastrously it's doing on Steam wishlist-wise and whatnot.

It's my next play, after I finish Veilguard. I already played through like half the game on ubisoft+ before I decided to put it aside and start it over when it hit Steam. I adored what I played and can't wait to get back to it.
I ended up buying the ultimate edition of Stalker 2 knowing it would be pretty rough. I follow global security and follow multiple channels dedicated to the topic, two of them Ukrainian and obviously mostly focused on the ongoing war there. Hearing that apparently the game is outlawed in Russia made it an easier choice amongst other things.
Anyway, I had multiple crashes in the tutorial and early segments. Turned down graphics settings from the autodetected Epic setting down to Medium for now and increased my virtual memory settings. While my RTX4070 is good enough, I'm definitely CPU gated on other things.
I started a fight with a bunch of dudes and had to run away immediately to get cover while stabbing myself with magical med kits and then bandaging up, this is not at all a realistic game despite attempting to be so. But one guy went around the entire building to flank me and the only saving grace was he missed his buckshot and had to reload while I shot him in the head (which are instantly lethal in this game unlike some shooter games on higher difficulties)
It's odd that killing humans with guns is way easier than killing a pack of ravenous dogs. I guess maybe not that odd. But still feels odd.
I haven't fought a ton of either, but part of it so far has been that the dogs don't give much warning before they're on you and you don't know how many there are right away. They also actually attack like a pack of canines in that one will charge in for a few bites before retreating to flank while a packmate is now in position to bite you from behind. It's meant that each dog usually gets a successful attack in before taking damage which I can't say for the human enemies. They seem to start combat with a few bursts from long range and a grenade toss even if I'm way out of their throwing range.
Relatedly, after getting killed once of twice by the first human enemies in the tutorial (on Stalker difficulty) when I tried to engage them by parking near cover, I took up fighting more like the dogs: Focused more on trying to move to flank before attacking from relatively short range. It doesn't take a lot of shots to down a human enemy, but you do need to actually hit them and the early weapons aren't really set up as marksmen weapons.

There've been a few other "early" Black Friday sales by video game companies on crossplatform games where the discount feels disappointing. This admittedly is not something that's been restricted to video games so far this holiday season so I wouldn't be surprised at other less than stellar sale prices on anything that isn't a few years old.

Just acquired a new Lenovo Ideabook yesterday and it already outperforms my desktop in No Man's Sky. Any suggestions for games that are friendly with tablet interfaces? Not gonna be playing much Hexcells if I can't figure out how to right-click on a touch screen.

While I get it and it’s fine I kind of like the variety of having “spotted” fail states. Just on a roleplaying level. I think the solution would be to have a more interesting fail state for “spotted” scenarios where like you get escorted out and get chances to slip away from your guards as you’re being led out and go back into stealth

I think Slay the Princess beat the multiple choice paralysis out of me a bit so I went to check out other similar, narrative driven games only to find out that I had already bought their other game, Scarlet Hollow at some unknown point in the past.
Loved the first chapter, but I am a bit worried I might burn through it and then get stuck waiting for chapter 5.
Also, my wife loved StP so, after getting an unspoiled ending each, we decided to try and see other branches by switching controllers between chapters and see how much fun we have setting up one another for horrible outcomes.
At first I was perplexed but then thats how you get some interesting route.

With The Bazaar being the hot thing right now, I thought I'd check into Backpack Battles again. Wow, they added a ton of new content, in addition to replays and build history.

I think Slay the Princess beat the multiple choice paralysis out of me a bit so I went to check out other similar, narrative driven games only to find out that I had already bought their other game, Scarlet Hollow at some unknown point in the past.

On my wife's it was
Razor - Mutually Assured Destruction.
We both got Wild through different paths and they led to different vessels in the end.
Both StP and Scarlet Hollow are fascinating to me with how much work such a small team put into branching paths and how wildly different playthroughs people can have with very small changes to their choices.
I finished my first playthrough of Scarlet last night (well, the released part at least) and I can still see myself spending hours on playing with different traits just to try and get the whole picture of what is actually going on in that town.
Haven't gotten to play STALKER again since Wednesday, but am itching to get back in; I will say, while I can deal with the bugs and just odd technical issues, I'm a little stunned at some of the game systems that just seem to be not working. I don't know many details about its implementation, but there is meant to be a sort of "AI Director" in the game that makes the game world feel like scripted and organic. In my playtime I didn't experience anything too dodgy, but hearing how this Director is currently working (improperly) does match up with the encounters I've come across.
The way they describe this system as working normally - the game limits how much "local spawning" can occur and handles AI encounters over three levels of systems, with the Director being at the top, to create the sense of a world with encounters that feel natural instead of randomly generated on the fly - sounds amazing, but instead it seems like the top Director layer isn't enabled leaving the lower "dumb AI" to handle more of the weight (and causing immersion breaking generation of content).
I wish I knew how this was handled previously, but at the moment I've not run into the more galling descriptions of this system breaking down. Hopefully they are working on an emergency patch to address the low-hanging fruit, but this one seems like a big one.
Is this Reynad's "The Bazaar?" I heard about that game way back in 2018 or so and enjoyed the early development journey but game just. . .went silent (particularly during COVID).

Yeah, although it seems to have taken an altogether different direction from those very early showcases. It's now not about direct pvp and controlling nodes on a game board and is more of an auto battler, where you go through different roguelite events to build your board and after a certain number of events it matches you up with another player to auto battle with, with the winner getting to advance etc.

With so many 'but thou must!' trends lately, especially in JRPGs(looking at you, SMTV), it's good to see more devs trying to push narratives in which choices actually make a difference.
One of the gold standards for this is still of all things, Growlanser 2, in which you can not only reason with the villain, you can join them if you want to. (It's a often needlessly dark route, and very thinly justified, but at least you have the option.)
Baldur's Gate 3 is a massive anomaly in the the realm of choices mattering... But just saying, the game has an ending where you commit suicide after killing all life in the universe.
Jeez got Black Myth Wukong. I like the game but damn. 4 easy bosses in first chapter and then they basically dump a two phase sekiro endgame level motherfucker on you.

The firefights in this game are so tense and awesome. I love the environment during thunderstorms, the sounds are just *chef kiss*
