Hey you!

Yeah, you reading the twitter thread!

Halloween is coming up, and at the rate we go through these threads probably Thanksgiving and any other November holidays I’m forgetting about.

Here’s some Seasonal Raccoon Dogs while we talk about Twitter, Shit we Find on Twitter, the current events that are being talked about on twitter, and God’s Bestest Animal, the Tanuki:

The ramens from the last thread may just convince me to make a trip to Grand Market over the weekend to visit a really good ramen shop called Ramen Hood that does entirely vegan ramen. I am not vegan but I had a bowl once during jury duty and it was delicious. Good price too.

We are not the first people to point out that this was clear transphobia. I went and looked and many people in that very thread that wern't even Lanz(but I don't know why you wouldn't take her word for it) made the same arguments as me. I don't then think its fair to suggest that you were just encountering a dogwistle you'd never heard before. Don't you think you're kind of playing the victim a bit when I say that your response defending open transphobia sucks and you say I called you a "bigot defending bigotry"?

also, like, is calling a trans person something other than the gender they identify as even a dog whistle? That just seems like the oldest kind of pure and direct transphobia to me.

It was not obvious to me at the time that when Allred said "boys" he actually meant "trans girls," because trans girls are not boys. That was the root of this whole thing. I assumed the statement was a non-position meant to read as bigotry to bigots and allyship to everyone else, precisely because it can be read both ways (and politicians gonna politician).

    That’s…

That’s literally how dog whistles work.

Like why they’re literally called “dog whistles.”

That’s why you had shit in the mid entire with Lee Atwater, racist Conservative fuck extradordinaire, explaining it as:
You start out in 1954 by saying, “N*****, n*****, n*****.” By 1968 you can’t say “n*****”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “N*****, n*****.”

They don’t say “trans girls” because:
    1) they don’t want voters like you to realize they’re up for sacrificing trans folks to right wing culture warriors
    2) most of these fucks refuse to believe trans people are our identified gender. They believe, despite our insistence to the contrary, we are our assigned at birth gender.” They think trans women are women in the same way a cisgender male cross dresser is a drag “Queen”

That’s why I and others were fucking pissed at y’all: you’ll repeatedly tie yourselves into the fucking Gordian knot to believe the fucking cover story instead of seeing the truth behind it. In this comparison, yall are the folk thinking Atwater really cares about States Rights when what he wants to do is hurt black people

Then you get huffy and indignant when the people being targetted by this shit are telling you your own team is joining the firing squad, and half of you assholes excuse it because you think it’ll get you a new shiny blue seat, which seems to be the only thing yall care about, not what the fucks will use that blue seat for or whose safety you traded away to get it.

No, caring about not being your sacrificial lambs is “purity testing”

Taking this from the election thread to show it’s not hard to hit back on this transphobic bullshit, from Tim Walz:
”We see it now; the hate has shifted to the trans community. They see that as an opportunity. If you’re watching any sporting events right now, you see that Donald Trump’s closing arguments are to demonize a group of people for being who they are,” Walz said. He continued, “We’re out there trying to make the case that access to healthcare, a clean environment, manufacturing jobs, and keeping your local hospital open are what people are really concerned about. They’re running millions of dollars of ads demonizing folks who are just trying to live their lives.”

I watched some Charlie Kirk thing on TikTok and wow that guy is just straight-up openly racist. And controlling the Arizona GOP?! Huh

I feel like the open racism against blacks, asians, native americans doesn't really get a lot of discussion in this election cycle because of the latino-coded immigration racism (and Haitians now, but black immigrants vs black natural citizens has always been a divide)

But it's just full mask-off now

    1. The damn thread ended, you had the perfect opportunity to stop digging, you didn't have to go back for seconds

    2. When marginalized folks tell you that something was bigoted toward them, perhaps grant them the benefit of the doubt that they understand their own oppression more than you do

I was once too naive or clueless or ignorant to recognize dog whistles or other forms of bigotry, like if someone wasn't wearing a kkk suit or a Nazi suit, I didn't realize they might be a bigot or do something bigoted

I'm still not a great ally, I wager, but I do my best to educate myself and listen to and respect and support minorities

A lot of my education and growth came from this getting outside of my little cis white male middle class rural wasp bubble, and meeting new people, but a lot of came from listening to minorities on this very message board
