During a get out the vote call Monday, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. disclosed that “President Trump has promised me control of the public health agencies,” including the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Kennedy also said Trump plans to put him in charge of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Trump has more of less confirmed this publicly. During his don’t-call-it-a-Nazi rally last Sunday at Madison Square Garden, Trump declared he would let RFK Jr. “go wild on health. I’m going to let him go wild on the food. I’m going to let him go wild on medicines.”

    I want off this ride.

It's a trick answer. RFK won't be in charge of any of those things, since under Project 2025 they will all be disbanded.

Part of me wonders if we'll still see a Harris interview happen for Rogan's podcast. I hate the idea of legitimizing him, but I'll concede there are a number of male voters that align with the democratic party, who watch his show and are currently on the fence about voting for Harris. So it might be worth the gamble and further shutdown some bullshit talking points.

Dude might even be up for it, if a significant chunk of his audience is sufficiently pissed at all of Trump racism at MSG.

Is there a second Rogan podcast that as a European I'm unaware of?
The one I know does not strike me as fertile poaching grounds...

There are some people, mostly men i assume, who still listen primarily because of his ties to MMA. My brother is one. He tolerates the politics for the interviews. My brother votes as blue as i do, so it's certainly not impossible.

Also as I understand it the interviews skew heavily towards other comedians. The times he has on dipshits like Jordan Peterson or whatever is actually more the exception but I can't say say for sure.

There's a few podcasts I keep with but Rogan puts out something absurd like 8-10 hours a week and I don't understand people having the time to listen to an overly credulous dude who is usually some combo of drunk and/or high babble for that long on a weekly basis.

Podcasts/Spotify have kind of become the new radio. It's just something you turn on when you want something on in the background, like during a commute or while you exercise. They don't necessarily care about keeping up with literally everything, they just want something familiar.

So it's less about active listening and more about just kind of being around, particularly for casual listeners. You see a similar pattern with any of the new media - the number of subscribers is generally an order of magnitude lower than the average number of views/listens on any given content, while occasionally you will see a viral/popular episode hit far above the subscriber count.

There is absolutely zero certainty spending any time with Rogan would be productive. I have no expectations that the man is capable of holding a reasonable conversation with a woman in a place of power and who is directly opposed to much of his shitty politics. He's a dirtbag and I would fully expect him to act like a dirtbag and for his followers to extract whatever they want out such an interview that supports their shitty ideas. There's a million ways such an interview would go badly for Kamala including open disrespect and few ways it could go well.

The View is also on "who cares":
Whoopi Goldberg began the segment by going after the “pearl-clutching” Republicans who suddenly “have a problem” with what Biden said but couldn’t bring themselves to be offended by Donald Trump calling America itself a giant “garbage can”—not to mention the Trump-supporting comedian’s joke calling Puerto Rico an “island of garbage” that Biden says he was referring to in the first place.

“I don‘t understand why you’re clutching your pearls,” Goldberg said. “You’re trying to make something out of a tongue slip.”

Joy Behar, meanwhile, went for the obvious joke: “For months and months, we’ve been hearing how Joe Biden is in dementia, that he’s old, he’s doddering, he can’t remember. All of a sudden, he’s clear as a bell!”
Alyssa Farah Griffin, that was on the Trump admin before bailing, pushed back, said that "deplorables" ended up mattering, however:
“It turned out she was right!” Goldberg said of Clinton’s infamous words.

Then there was Sunny Hostin, who told Griffin directly, “It’s intellectually dishonest for his supporters to suddenly be offended by President Biden’s slip-up—because I do believe it was a slip-up—after all that their guy has said. He called all of America a garbage can!"

Ultimately, Griffin insisted that “we all actually agree on this,” but then added, “To move beyond the era of Trump, you need leaders who aren’t going to call names.”

“And Kamala did not!” Hostin pointed out.

When even the normie lib shows are just rolling their eyes at MAGA chuds trying to make this a thing, you know that nobody is actually buying.

An interview with Rogan would see him much more confrontational because you’d have to correct every damn thing he says otherwise you would be assenting to it. With trump they could both nod along and ignore each other because they’re both conspiratorial dinguses, but Kamala or even walz would have to stop Rogan every five seconds and explain fundamental reality and basic frameworks. It could be a damn nightmare and I don’t know whether it would be a productive use of her time no matter how many views and listens it gets

The narrative coming out of it would 100% be that they were antagonistic and kill joys. Maybe that would be good who knows, but it’s basically taking an entire day out of their schedule, and how do you prep your candidate to make sure they can explain why the polio vaccine actually worked etc, so they don’t look stumped or flustered when he says that the polio vaccine didn’t cure polio etc, which he did with trump and nobody cared

Okay there's another article (https://www.wired.com/story/elon-musk-america-pac-blitz-canvassing-michigan-uhaul/) about the Elon Musk canvassing shit and it's wild.

    Takeaways:
    - One guy didn't realize he was canvassing for Trump because they're a subcontractor of a subcontractor and he signed an NDA and then got told hey we're pro-Republican
    - They're expected to maintain a "17-22% engagement rate for the campaign" which may as well say a "unicorn" engagement rate. Like don't get me wrong I get 25% sometimes, but I've gotten 5% many times more. You're knocking on doors at random hours of the day! You can't control this!
    - They need to knock 1000 doors a week. Now, this isn't terrible in like a relatively dense area. But 50-ish doors with like 10-15% engagement rate is probably 2-3 hours even in a pretty dense area. Two or three conversations last 5 minutes? That's cutting into your time. And these folks are going into exurbs/rural areas where they're going to have trouble navigating.
    - At first the Michigan canvassers couldn't actually canvass because no one had a valid driver's license. They wound up being taken around in a U-Haul. Like, in the box in the back, without seats.
    - The knocks are supposed to take 15 seconds a piece? Which I mean even if you're not doing persuasion that's like quick.

It's just very funny how if this is even a little useful it's entirely down to people who are probably pretty young and nervous doing their best because they're not confident they can slack off. But like this just isn't a job you can easily contract out for wages. There's no indicator you can use that actually shows people are doing what you want them to do.

    We're all in this together

Rogan is very much a gateway podcast. People come in because they're interested in MMA or comedians in general, and then get fed a steady 20% diet of right-wing talking points until they move off to more extreme podcasts like Alex Jones. This is a politically active forum, so we just hear about that 20% more frequently than the non-political 80%.

It's absolutely fair game to reduce that right-wing 20% and replace it with left-wing talking points to stifle that radicalisation pipeline. Rogan is fairly incurious and doesn't particularly care unless his subscribers take a hit - he'll have anyone on his show, accept whatever they say at face value, and not insult them while they're there (although equally he may ask them awkward questions as Trump found out with the election fraud evidence, but Rogan won't push it and just move on unlike e.g. Jonathan Swann).

My daughter's middle school did their own vote earlier this week and Harris came out on top, 52-40. Unfortunately, they did vote for the jackass this area keeps sending to the House, but it was close. So if the election was up to 6-8 graders in a section of a city in southern Minnesota, we totally would have this.

After the Trump interview, someone tried to meme about Rogan being in complete disbelief about Trump being shot.

I believe Rogan responded by saying the poster had TDS.

So I guess I’m saying I don’t necessarily think skipping Rogan is a bad thing.

I think the reason people aren't buying this is the immediate and obvious juxtaposition. The Puerto Rico thing was fresh on people's minds when this dropped. The inciting story has to fade from the public conscious in order for this to work. It's not a turn you can make on a dime.

One was passionately arguing with me, which is fair enough, he seemed genuine and was earnestly trying to get me to understand that covid was a plot, they’re killing babies, Hunter Biden’s laptop and the global cabals, do your research etc. I just started to get shaky and unwell and kept desperately arguing stupidly back at all the nonsense, not realising how upset I was gettinf

When I realised it had gotten too heated, I started apologising, but the other quieter guy wouldn’t listen and wouldn’t hear it. He said look you had your lefty rant, you interrupted us, I’m calm, you’re the one being crazy, you need to calm down, calm down, calm down, calm down etc. I kept trying to apologise because he was absolutely right I did interrupt them, and he had every right to not accept my apology and keep telling me off, while the other one seemed to accept my apology and keep trying to convince me to do my research etc

I feel so stupid and small. It made me feel like a stupid child. I was in the wrong and it just kind of broke me and as soon as they left I burst into tears, because I felt so stupid but also just it bled into every other insecurity I have about myself. And then I had to quickly try and leave without them seeing in the locker room, because I didn’t want staff to come up to me and ask why I was crying and then blame them, because I was at fault

This whole thing has just frayed my already weak will, and I was planning to use the gym to ignore reality but now I have to try and avoid them because of something I did, because of how stupid and rude I was and how weak and pathetic the guy who rightly refused to accept my apology made me feel

I want this fucking election to be over

I’m in fucking Australia too so this isn’t even US

Uh it isnt weak or pathetic to get upset re: upsetting things.

Being calm doesnt mean shit about validity, none of it means youre wrong or whatever. Sorry you had a negative interaction. Your feelings are valid. It's okay to argue passionately. Why else have passion, if not to argue over things that govern peoples fats?

Nothing stupid or small about finding yourself in an unpleasant interaction, happens to the best of us. Sounds like you didnt yell or swear or throw anything so a 5/10 at worst.

I know all this intellectually but in the moment, and because I had interrupted them, I just felt so upset and furious with myself for getting involved and creating the situation I now have to avoid and live with, like I could feel myself making the mistake and the nerves of both the argument itself and knowing I had made this whole place awkward now

Honestly it was less the guy who was spouting all the nonsense, he seemed affable and excited, it was the one who basically looked at me like dirt and refused to let go the fact that I had interrupted them, refused to let me apologise without continually telling me to calm down and that look I interrupted them, I’m the rude one. It’s like man I’m sorry I know. Gah, i just feel so insecure and frayed

I’m 38 and I felt like a child, even tho they were probably only 10 years older than me

And yeah I didn’t yell or swear or say anything personal, I just kind of kept shooting back and talking earnestly. There was no red faces. It was just the fact that he was right that I should have minded my own business and when I realised they weren’t both side sing it I shouldn’t have kept disagreeing and making points, it just got away from me. Like yeah the other guy was super calm, but he upset me way more than the argument itself by insisting on kind of dressing me down on it and making sure to rub my nose in it. Like he was in the right and I was rude to interject, but it just rattled me and I’m not socially secure enough with myself to be able to take that kind of interaction, which is what made me even more annoyed with myself for starting the whole thing

But Thankyou to the people who messaged and sorry for derailing the thread a bit. Once the adrenaline wears off I’ll be fine, and I’ll just have to deal with the discomfort of going to the gym with him there after this happened

"We're a dumping ground. We're like a -- we're like a garbage can for the world. That's what, that's what's happened to us. We're like a garbage can," Trump said at a rally in Tempe, Arizona, on Thursday.

As an example, one of the few times Rogan actually challenged Trump was when Trump said the fucking polio vaccine worked.

That's the kind of shit you'd need to take time learning to handle for 3 hours.

Offering Rogan an hour and he comes to you seems like something you could afford. But he's also gonna turn you down because he didn't accommodate people.
