Sorry to break up the intense conversation, but I had an idea for CR and wanted to ask about it.
I was thinking about how there's a divide between G&T and SE++ and was wondering how to provide a fun bridge between the members. I liked the idea of a "Who's that person?" thread where we highlight a single person. Each person would be decided by nominations and community votes. Once someone is selected, whoever's in charge sends them a form to fill out with questions about themselves. Things like, what do you do, your hobbies, favorite games, hidden talents, funny/heartbreaking stories, etc. Basically, tell us as little or as much about yourself as you want.
The idea is that I know a lot of people here, but mostly by a avatar and screen name. This whole process has me learning that we have a lot of people here with a variety of talents (technically, business management, design, etc) and others who are suffering and might need help. I just...want to know more. It could really help foster the community more and create closer bonds with one another.
Of course, the entire highlight thread would be opt-in for those who'd prefer not to have their more personal side on display. If people think it's a bad idea, I totally get that as well. Just wanted to share this and get it out of my head.

on the one hand i think that's cool and fun but on the other hand i know there are people who get bad feelings from the forumer appreciation thread because they don't ever get mentioned
maybe if it were a random selection (and agreed by the person being profiled) or something like that
Allegedly a voice of reason.

You could do a like, thread that you post in to opt in, and then randomize it from there or similar

I’m just envisioning Gort making a “Who’s That Pokemon?”-esque avatar silhouette post every Monday and summoning that random forumer to come tell us about themselves.
Hell, New Jersey, it said on the letter. Delivered without comment. So be it!
XenForo has an About section in the profile you can fill in with whatever you want. We could perhaps encourage people to fill in these details with a template or something, and socialize it more so the community knows to look at it. But a lot of people are naturally going to be cautious about info that could allow them to be identified IRL.

I have been lurking this sub-forum for awhile but just want to say I've been really impressed by the progress being made and overall mutual consent going on with the development of the new forums. I'm really hopeful that there'll be less of an 'us vs them' feeling and more of a positive space for people

I haven’t seen any discussion yet on what I consider to be the number 1 issue regarding the new forums: how will we be implementing So Raven into Coin Return?

I don't remember everything that has been revealed, but I feel it is safe to say we are going to have a fun reaction system. Custom emote reactions will not be nearly the problem they have been on Vanilla.

regarding the new forums, will embed image size limits remain the same? I can see the argument that bigger sized images can mess up mobile, but not sure if there was any kind of img res scaling script wrt vanilla vs new forums
I wrote the size checker chrome extension that people used for a long time. Stopped updating it a while back as the size limits weren't really being enforced anymore.
But I could write something similar for the nuforum.

Alternatively,
Is there a way to have a default max size users can turn off if they want to share a bigger picture? IIRC one was implemented here to help with other bugginess and it's kinda nice not have to worry.
That's supposed to be 4961x2758 but at least on my end is much smaller. But if you open in a new tab you get the full sized original.
ah ok I see the confusion Delz has. I was talking about size limits in terms of number of bytes downloaded (and I'm pretty sure zavian was as well) not the width/ height. A lightbox does not interact with the download size at all.
It used to be a very strictly enforced rule that images could not be above a certain download size regardless of their dimensions. I made a chrome extension that would let you right click on an image to see its download size so you could check that prior to linking it on the forums and getting infracted.
Just did an http request for the header only then checked a few different things depending on if it was a simple image or one of the weird things content delivery networks would do around images or movies at the time.
Then it would insert an already BBcoded URL tag into your clipboard.
I have a truly ad filled app that exists on my phone solely for the purpose of shrinking images down to 1mb for here. That's it. That's all i use it for. Hoping that won't be necessary with the new forum to the same extent.

I use the one linked below. It plays well with Blokada.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd assume that with a functional lightbox system, you'd only be fetching the full sized image when you "open" it. And until then, your browser will only fetch a downscaled version?
If that's the case, it would probably make sense to keep image upload limits fairly lax. It's more about reducing the cost of hosting/serving than about preventing forum users with limited data from being stung by viewing a post with a bunch of NSF56K content.
I used to lurk this forum aaaaages ago, but I'm glad I randomly checked after the news dropped and have been following the updates since. I love following all the work and discussion going on to help save this community, since places like on the internet are becoming more and more valuable as social media continues to show how much it sucks.
One piece of info I might have missed in another thread- do we already have a URL for where the new forum will be yet? Since things are still being worked on I understand there won't be anything at the URL yet, but having a URL to hang on to just in case would be nice.

Also as it is now March and the timeline said something like letting users in late March, an updated time frame for when we're gonna start moving over would be nice!
(Not pressuring or pushing, just excited for new place/tech/car smell)
Presumably the board/mods situation still needs to be sorted out, and I'm not sure when that's kicking off, though I'm guessing the idea is to not rush the process, so hopefully it starts soon?

IIRC people have reserved domains on all the candidate forum titles for some time now, so I think we're good on that end.

Good to know, does anyone have that list of domains handy just in case? I doubt the forums will close next week or anything like that, just paranoia from seeing community migrations between sites before.
