By the way, I don't know if this has been pointed out before, but for those of you that don't live in the area I would like to point out that Gameworks (a 2-floor arcade) is right across the street from PAX this year. Just saying.
I was just thinking, I wonder if Gameworks has ANY concept of how no-lube-raped-through-the-pants they're going to be on PAX weekend. Anything short of tripling their normal staff will leave them begging for mercy.
Gameworks is just a basic arcade, with the emphasis on arcade... but they have a nice big selection of everything from old school games to racing (with like 12 cars?) and DDR, basketball, virtual horseback riding, rafting, and even this hot air baloon game where you sit in a seat and go up and down a couple of stories while trying to pop everyone else's baloon on the screen... that was a fun one.
Oh yeah and they have lots of FPS zombie games in widescreen... my boyfriend likes those.
Yeah, House of the Dead 4 is widescreen HD on like a 60-inch. It's niiiiiiiiiice.
Anyway, Gameworks has just tons of arcade games, many of which I haven't seen at any other arcade. They don't have laser tag, or stuff like that. I think most everything there is a video game, other than the standard fare of ticket-givers upstairs. Of course basketball shooting, air hockey, etc.
Gameworks is a lot of fun, and anyone that would tell you otherwise is completely full of crap. They have such a great variety, it's really nice.
They have Guitar Freaks 1, and they HAD drummania, but it was replaced by the MTV drum game. I'm not sure if they still have that one. They had beatmania at one point too. There are like 4 flavors of DDR, but they certainly had Guitar Freaks as of like 2 weeks ago. I like that game.
I didn't have much luck beating anyone in the arcades in Tokyo last year, but maybe I can trick some kid into thinking it's a DBZ game and get at least one victory.
Guitar Freaks and Drummania were present at previous PAXs but the arcade that was providing the machines went out of business but they might be showing up at PAX again.

Yes, they have Third Strike. Also they have Tekken 3-5 (and tag), some variation of Samurai Showdown, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, some SF Alpha game (prolly 3), Capcom vs. SNK 2, and a couple more.
I need MVC2 and SFTS challengers! Those are my two fav games, would like to see some competition on those.

HAHAHAHAHAH SERIOUSLY. Gameworks is pretty awesome tho for anybody that has never been to one. They got a bar and every arcade game known to man

I liked it a lot better when they had the virtua-cop esque shooting game for that thing...

Can we get the chemicals in. 'Cause anything's better than this.
I'll take you on in MVC2 if I get time to go over to Gworks. I have a lot of plans during PAX ><
lol yea im talking like theres gonna be nothing to do and im gonna have some freetime to go to gameworks. I might not even be able to make it over there either.
That might conflict with the movie. Another option is they have happy hour from 4-8pm m-f. We could chill at gameworks until our dinner reservations at pf changs.
Happy Hour just got happier with AN EXTRA HOUR!!! 1/2 price well drinks, house wines, draft beers (domestic & import), and house margarita.

The movie is happening before the dinner (at or around 4pm) so people can also attend the Pre-PAX Nerdcore show at 9:30. I suppose people who aren't going to said show can head over to Gameworks for te all you can game and cheap Jager.
I know Khoo said they're in talks... I would suggest trying to get the Gameworks to stay open later... till like 4am... so that after the concerts & closing time each night... people could migrate over there... seems rather natural.
Perhaps Gameworks could setup a booth in the convention center selling "all you can play late nite passes" that would allow freeplay & entry from like midnight till 3 or 4am? (essentially a private pax party each night after closing)?
For those looking for some calssic Pinball, their is allways Shortys in Belltown (just a hop, skip from the convention center) which is a bar with a ton of classic and modern pinball machines.
The good news is Gameworks is already open relatively late (especially for Seattle, which tends to close early) - til Midnight on Thursday and Sunday, 1:00 Friday and Saturday. As for nontraditional/deluxe games, in addition to the already-mentioned two story balloon jousting game, they've got a turret game that whips you arount in a circle around a circular screen shooting at planes, a couple Initial-D racing games in full simulator chairs, a large (8?) player Indy racing game setup, and some horse-racing manager/simulator game. For DDR they have SuperNova, Extreme, and good ole DDR USA. They only have 3 or 4 pinball games, but they do have a nice selection of true classics, ranging from Space Invaders to Missile Command to Robotron. They've got a pretty nice grill restaurant inside, and of course the bar.

Only problem with Shorty's is the weekend factor. While they have an awesome selection of pinball, there will undoubtably be plaenty of people in there already trying to get high score. Don't get me wrong, I love the place, but Belltown on the weekends is annoying as all get out.

Yes it will be packed but that just means more eye candy. And I have allways been able to find an open machine there no matter how packed the bar area.

I'm so there with some pinball goodness. Hopefully they have some pins I haven't tried.

I have been addicted to pinball since I played on the largest pinball machine in the world in Niagara Falls Canada sometime in the mid-to-late-80s. So you know I'm down.

I'll be there as long as nobody gets between me and "The Getaway"... I have a vendetta with that machine...
Bumping the table without causing a "tilt" is totally legitimate gameplay with pins.
I would never "bump" a machine and tilt it, if the machine tilts it's because there's something wrong with it, not me:P... I'm only saying that out of all the pins they have at Shorty's, that machine is the one that silently mocks me whenever I'm in that back room.

I'm just saying, a bit of nudging to show that damn machine whose the boss. I remeber someone telling me about pinball machines with the tilt disabled and how it wasn't a legitimate score since you could nudge/bump like crazy.
So I went by Gameworks today and got some more details about there thursday specials and happy hour.
Happy Hour (4pm-8pm m-f)
1/2 off wines, well drinks, margeritas, taps (basics and a few micro brews)
this is roughly $2.50 per drink
Play Your Way Thursday (9pm to close)
Close is Midnight for thursday
$10 unlimited game card
$2 shots of Jager & Jose Cuervo
$10 Buckets (Coors Lite Only)
1/2 Price Appetizers (sampler platter and rib basket excluded)
$2 Drafts (Pabst Blue Ribbon Only)
If your under 21 you must leave Game Works by 10pm
If PAX works out anything with gameworks things might be a little bit different. I asked about parties and they said there have been some college parties that lasted til 6am
Clegger, I'm down for some Third Strike. Last year I was killing people, although I must admit, the arcade was fairly empty when we went. I love me some SF3 and am hoping to pwn and get pwned hard this year. I'll definitely be there Thursday night after 9:00. I should have some friends of mine in tow, so be on the lookout!

Oh, a note - when they say nobody under 21 after 10, they really mean it. You can't even have an infant in a stroller with you (and yes, I've seen people rat others out so they could get on the DDR Supernova machine).

I have faith in Khoo. He is wise in the ways of smoozery (given what kind of deal he was able to get on the hotels) I figure guaranteed 20,000 gamers in seattle will have strong impact in that deal.
Khoo, I would prepay for some cards for gameworks now to show them that we are coming in full force.

For all the women at PAX that can't find a suitable man to ride?
Oh. I made myself sad.
