South Carolina has wrapped up its early voting period and the State Election Commission (SEC) is reporting that there have been more than 1.5 million ballots cast in the 2024 General Election, which is the highest total of pre-election day ballots the state has ever seen in an election.

So, record early voting turnout as of November 4th.

Since this is South Carolina I'm assuming those are overwhelmingly for Trump.

    Gonna go puke a little.

Edit: it may not actually be that big of a deal. I dont think early voting was really a thing until Covid and our early voting laws weren't fully put in place until 2022. So, could be less we're having record turn out and more the same pool of voters are just taking advantage of the option.

Still gonna go puke a little.

I don't think there is any good feel of normal/not normal levels of early voting. In a lot of areas it just wasn't much of a thing a couple decades ago and the last few election cycles have been weird on their own. The GOP used to be heavily in favor of early and mail in voting which is why a lot of western states have it. Then along came trump who demonized it so the GOP stopped voting early then 2020 hit and stuff got weird. I think it is going to take a few cycles to build up any kind of modern baseline. It is very likely early voting is just canabilizing same day voting so instead of a voting day more people are going with the voting week or two so they can fit it in when it works for them timewise.

I’d believe it (regarding the early voter count) after the lines I saw here in such a small place.

I will say that Lewis Black had a great reception in Charleston, SC when I went there near the end of October. Only two people got up and left when he started joking on the right and Trump (though I have no idea what they were expecting, unless they were the type to randomly purchase tickets for comedians they have no clue who they are). Very receptive crowd and lots of cheers and laughs for his jokes. I’m sure it’s no indication of SC as a whole, but it was good being out in public and hearing things that this forum has said and I’ve heard in the news stated out loud and accepted. Made me feel a lot less isolated and more like there’s actual sane people out there.

Charleston is probably one of the most liberal places in South Carolina. It's like if you went to Birmingham in Alabama. Not indicative of the state as a whole.

Dropped off my ballot yesterday at the recorders office. Glad I came from the north side as the south side of the street was backed up trying to get into the parking lot for the drive up drop box.

Now nothing to do but wait and see.

I'll be so happy if we kick Cruz out. Praying everyone else is sick of him as I am after EVERY SINGLE commercial him AND Abbott put out was just pounding on "Drag shows on military bases!" (which is a goddamn tradition btw) and "Taxpayer funded sex change operations for men and women in uniform!" which is just How Healthcare Works.

The anti trans ads at the end of the campaign got super common in WI too. It was just weird I mean of all the challenges and issues the US has their closing message is be mean to a very small minority. One of my republican friends reaction to them was if this is what they choose as their final message they got nothing and he is voting for harris.

Made a democracy in MN! +1 to Harris, my Gov Walz, Ilhan, and Klobuchar the Reaver, I guess.

Spent 10 minutes in line at the Methodist church before being informed that I was standing in the food shelf line and there was no waiting for voting.

I was a little disheartened that the line wasn't long but this is Minnesota where we actually have enough polling places, and they did tell me I came at a good time, asit had been really busy before.

I also had no line but, unlike voting earlier this year, most of the stations were full of people filling our ballots. So probably 30-40 people voting at once at 7:30 in the morning.

But there's nothing but Harris/Walz signs around, other than the one house that has vote for Smaug and vote for Cobra Commander signs. I don't know if I can trust Smaug's wealth management platform and I feel like he'd insist on getting us back on the gold standard.

MN gang - I was there when polls opened at 7 and was like 40th in line, which was about the same my wife reported half an hour later. I don't know what that means because no one was wearing fascist flags or anything... my area is on the outer bounds of the city, enough that my state rep is a pub, so having that many show up is... I don't know.

Nice workers, people in line were tense but laughed at the state of the line snaking through the elementary school doors when I joked about it. Ugh stress.

That is what I had thought, still it was the first time since Trump got on the scene that I had been around others that saw Trump for what he really is and pointed out the atrocities of the right. My family and many in person friends are very much right wing - though my GF and her best friend are firmly on the left. Having a room of hundreds seemingly agree with your political views was very affirming for me.

+2 Harris/Walz in southeast Missouri, with
The added bonus of voting against Hawley.

A mildly interesting thing is I was so disgusted at the sports gambling measure that I forgot there was also a vote to add another casino, which would reach our state limit. But that one isn't pretending to help schools, it's just 'can we run a riverboat in the Ozarks'. Sure, you get a vote for being straightforward, knock yourself out

Remember folks. Anyone telling you your vote doesn’t matter is engaging in voter suppression. Anyone telling you that both sides are the same is engaging in voter suppression.

12 hours to go. If you’re in line when the polls close you can still vote. Text any friends or family you have who may be on the fence or straggling to get this milestone in fighting the fascists met.

in the 24 years since election bullshit became a thing for my generation, i have tried to start a family twice, had my heart broken in more ways that i knew was possible

I have discovered new levels of grief, fear, and rage.

Right now several little girls in my family and their older cousins are embracing the genetic legacy for our women, and I'm going to sleep hoping this country makes the 24 years safer for them

Also, was a time in my life where you fuckers were the only ones who would given serious thought on if i lived or died.

British TV stations. BBC, Channel 4, cautiously Sky News. Also RTÉ, Ireland’s public broadcast service. All these live news feeds may be region locked partially so you may need to switch back and forth. Also look for Euronews feeds. Those are all public service broadcasters so they’re all pretty solid.

Not going to link it, as I think there's a blanket "no The Onion" rule.
But yeah, I never thought they would be back, but they have a "live" camera feed inside a voters booth.
They've already had voting : a 9 year old girl, Jesus Christ, A russian filling out 25 vote sheets, a slenderman and someone calling in a helpline to eliminate half the possibilities.
    Pretty fun.

The results of the election seem so dependent on turnout. Like, if women show up 1 percent more, that's a massive swing in results. But are any pollsters predicting turnout? Can they?

The Onion also had a video lampooning the touchscreen election maps that the major news networks are so fond of, zooming in all the way down into a neighborhood, then a man in a bedroom, then into the man's internal organs.
