[Helldivers II] Previous thread no longer online, deploying new thread

Old thread got unintentionally nuked when a user requested data deletion. With apologies to the original OP writer, here's the copy-paste of that post just to start the new thread.

Platforms: PS5 and PC (Steam)
URGENT BROADCAST – SUPER EARTH ARMED FORCES
Freedom. Peace. Democracy.
Your Super Earth-born rights. The key pillars of our civilization.
Of our very existence.
But the war rages on. And everything is once again under threat.
Join the greatest military force the galaxy has ever seen and make this a safe and free place to live.

You will be assembled into squads of up to four Helldivers and assigned strategic missions. Watch each other’s back – friendly fire is an unfortunate certainty of war, but victory without teamwork is impossible. Rain down freedom from above, sneak through enemy territory, or grit your teeth and charge head-first into the jaws of combat. How you deliver liberty is your choice; you’ll have access to a wide array of explosive firepower, life-saving armor and battle-changing stratagems… the jewel in every Helldiver’s arsenal. Super Earth recognises your hard work with valuable Requisition. Use it to access different rewards that benefit you, your squad, your destroyer ship and our overall war effort. Everything on every planet wants you dead. That’s what we’re dealing with. Each enemy has distinct and unpredictable characteristics, tactics, and behavior – but they all fight ferociously and without fear or morality. Capturing enemy planets, defending against invasions, and completing missions will contribute to our overall effort.
FAQ
Can I turn off friendly fire?
Friendly Fire is an integral part of the Helldivers experience. The game was designed with Friendly Fire as a core part of the design. You will not be able to turn off Friendly Fire.
Can I play solo?
Technically yes, but this is not recommended unless you are the most fearsome of players. It’s a dangerous galaxy out there, where especially the harder difficulties are tuned for co-op. But no one is stopping you from flexing your lonesome prowess...
But fear not, if you do try to play solo and find yourself in a pinch, throw down the S.O.S. Beacon Stratagem and another player should be right there to help!
What type of currencies are in the game?
- Super Credits can be purchased or discovered through gameplay. They can be used to purchase Warbonds, or to purchase armor from the rotating Surplus Store.
- War Medals can be discovered through gameplay or awarded for completing objectives, and can be used to unlock the content in Warbonds.
- Requisitions are awarded to players for completing objectives, missions and operations. They can be used to unlock new Stratagems through the Ship Management terminal.
- Samples can be discovered through gameplay and come in three different rarities: normal, rare and super rare. Harder mission difficulties will contain more rare samples, as displayed when choosing mission difficulty. They can be used to upgrade Stratagems through the Ship Management terminal on your ship.
What is a Warbond?
Warbonds are bundles of game content made to bring more variety to the Helldivers 2 experience. They can be purchased with Super Credits, which can be bought by players directly or discovered through gameplay.
Warbonds can contain anything from emotes and player cards to armor, weapons and capes. The weapons and armor contained in Warbonds are designed to spice up the player experience, not to overpower the options available in game – meaning, a Warbond rifle may have the same damage output as a rifle that can be unlocked through gameplay, but have a new weird way of outputting said damage.
Each Warbond is divided into several pages of content. This content can be unlocked by spending War Medals, discovered through gameplay or awarded for completing objectives. Once you have spent a set number of Medals on one Warbond, the next page of that Warbond will become available. All medals spent in a Warbond, no matter which page they were spent on, count towards unlocking the next page. This means that you can progress through a Warbond at your own pace, in the order you prefer.
New Warbonds are continuously added to the game. Existing Warbonds will always remain available for purchase.

Super Citizen Edition:
h26b5rqq8dvw.png
Edition includes:

‘DP-53 Savior of the Free’ Armor Set.
‘Will of the People’ Cape.
‘MP-98 Knight’ Weapon.
Super Citizen Status.
Stratagem Hero Ship Game.
‘Steeled Veterans’ Premium Warbond.
This war will be won or lost depending on the actions of everyone involved.

We stand together, or we fall apart.

For Super Earth!

It amuses me that when the previous thread kicked the bucket, a brand new fresh thread emerges from a Hellpod to take its place.

Also, the different currencies and Warbonds seem like a fun way to keep things fresh. I’m curious about what strategies you all plan to use for your missions.

I somehow managed to post just before the thread got nuked, I just wanted to say that I wish I'd known about the flag mission spawn issues last night. My usual group ran a flag mission on Difficulty 7, only got 1/2 flags raised, at which point it told us to "Eliminate remaining enemies" with a counter before it could complete the objective. The counter WENT UP while we were killing bugs. Eventually we just got overwhelmed and failed the mission. Glad to hear it's fixed now.

Random unexpected demise from friendly fire, no less. I think we can classify the post deletion as an "accidental".

I was doing one today where the counter was stuck at 1 for a while. We ended up having to level the entire stupid settlement with Eagles because a single bug got trapped in a building's geometry or something.

But the flag was still there... :sniff:

Did some farming and got the supercredits to grab the new warbond. I very much enjoy the new shotgun, it's got nice kick to it and the stun rounds are fun. Need to get more medals to get more of the stuff, but I'm happy enough with the shotgun for now.

I wonder if people haven't found the new thread, or if other events are overcoming any interest or ability to play...

I've been playing each night and my regular group is finally succeeding at D8 difficulty with both bots and bugs. I might try to hot drop into some D9s with randos in the future: I'm feeling pretty comfortable at 8 myself. As always I've rotated my builds, but I've definitely fallen into the role of heavy removal for my regular group. I feel like there's an occasional, unpredictable delay on the EATs that's not on the RR, but I do like having a backpack. I should try grabbing a few more clips, but I haven't felt like anything I've done lately has been particularly impressive. I did have one evacuate key personnel yesterday where something, can't remember what, launched me from my perch above the outer gate into the killing fields of bugs. This was pretty late in the mission, just as we'd cleared it and needed to start evacuating, and the overlapping corpses of impalers and bile titans prevented me from simply walking back through that same gate. I had to run through no-man's land which had become a field of craters, chased by Broodlords, Hive guard, and the occasional charger. My buddies were on he landing pad overlooking the field, trying to support me, but I largely had to make my own way grabbing dropped weapons and the occasional eat before finally getting to the other door, opening it, and then having to do another loop to avoid getting murdered by the unrelenting horde. That was pretty fun, and I lived, but I didn't think to record it at the time.

It's safe to say that the game has made as much of a recovery as it's going to following the 60 day rebalancing promise. Now what's going to happen next? The DSS should be online following this major order, right? Is that going to be enough? I was really hoping we'd see Illuminates on Liberty day, and a little dissapointed that we didn't. While it certainly would be dramatic if they arrived just in time to disrupt or destroy the DSS, I don't see that happening as there are some subsystems in place now for us to interact with it. I think, or at least hope, their arrival will be an unannounced surprise, and I hope it's soon.

I think having the thread title say that the thread is dead is...confusing. I know I thought this was the old closed thread for a little bit.

As for the state of the game, I would love to see Illuminates show up. The game is still very fun as is, but having another faction show up would revitalize a lot of interest in it.

I'm playing actively, i usually knock out a d10 op/day. I'm much more about the bot front than the bug front, but i go wherever the major order is. It does seem like the player base is shifting to prefer bots a bit?

But the game is not dying by any means, there's 69k players on as i speak, 49k who are all on one planet. Which is PRETTY CRAZY for a live service game

Did a quick level 8 op on the defense planet. Last mission (flag raising) saw us get back to the extract, and find out the hard way that there was a stalker nest near extract that had been quietly building up a wave of stalkers to greet us. Manage to get it down and I see even more stalkers running around, so I figure that the one last red spot on the map to the NE is one as well and decide I'd go get it before we extract to at least give us some breathing room.

Get there and discover that it's just a light bug nest, there had been so damn many stalkers spawned that what we were seeing were stragglers. I go ahead and 500 it (it was the "3 nests in a hole" version), and I'm swamped by a bug breach. Drop the Orbital Napalm and realize I'm pretty well cut off from extract which was already called in.

Call out on voice to go ahead and extract while I try to figure out a way around, but I notice that the puggies stuck around. They waited until I got back (1 minute before mission end) so I could extract with them even though I told them to go ahead.

Level 7 bugs tonight with my friends.

Y'all, MG turret with it's exceptionally low cooldown means it does WORK, especially if more than one person brings it. Even when I was out on one side of the map by myself and got stealth breached, it lasts long enough that you can often drop a second one and have your own little MG sentry cross fire going. And if all 4 bring one? Well lemme tell you ALL HUNTER SPAM is no longer an issue.

Should note that we have all the cooldown buffs, so that definitely makes the difference.

I was just spamming them off cooldown for a while. Sometimes I'd get into something and be running for my life only to come into range of a sentry I'd thrown down a while ago and it saves my ass.

I did a Helldiver with total randos last night and we succeeded. Even managed to extract with a healthy amount of samples once. D9 felt like a linear step up from D8 with the most notable difference being that we’d often get multiple Bile Titans and Impalers spawning together, but even that felt manageable, especially since two of us dropped with RR and did some team reloads.

My D10 bugs loadout is RR/Gas Strike/machine gun turret/500kg (or ops on forest maps), and yeah that little buddy does work. Fast, cheap, it'll kill anything that's not a heavy fast, and if a charger or whatever does squash it, who cares? It'll be up in 77 seconds at most again.

I tried it out into bots and wanst happy with it (at least on D10, which is about the only thing i play anymore). But it did motivate me to try bringing Rocket Turret, and Little Rodger the Rocket Turret is a mean, mean fellow if you can keep him alive. Very potent backup for my favoured RR/Purifier combo.

Still think the most fun part of this game is the multi-gate Defense missions. Did lvl 9 bots for the first time ever with friends last night, just to see what it was like, running mass rocket sentries and a bunch of things to explode drop ships and tanks. Everything was going fairly well until ships started dropping inside the base for some reason (gates weren't breached, maybe the bots were just cheating). End result was a desperate last stand in the hallway leading to the generators involving our last HMG emplacement and autocannon mech (singular of each), just firing into a wall of smoke because we couldn't see anything else. And we fucking held out until the last rocket launched and even extracted. God, I love that mission type.

That that mission type has rapidly become one of my favorites, if only for the fact that it makes me use an entirely different loadout than I normally do.

And I think park of the reason that bots may drop inside the base has to do with where people are standing? Like, if someone is hanging out back near the generators the game seems to have the parameters of "this distance away from that person is an acceptable spot" and "drop on this side of the generators" result in bots just being put down either inside the base or on the pelican landing pad. It's almost like it mistakenly recognizes the battle front to be more inside the base like it does when everyone is pushed back to the generators, because I know that's when bots definitely start getting regularly dropped there, for sure.

  • NobodyNobody Registered User regular
I think it can also happen if a bot lives long enough to call in their own bot drop

  • DysDys Registered User regular
Oh yeah, that can also happen with bugs too.

One little guy deciding to send out a call in the middle of the base can make for a hilariously bad time, depending on how the team has their current defenses set up.

Like, all those turrets on the perimeter suddenly pointing inwards? Partially at the people who places them there? Lots of screaming and broken limbs. Beautiful.

  • BowenBowen Sup? Registered User regular
Where you're standing, bots calling in their own dropships, and if they can't find a safe place to drop their cargo they'll drop it everywhere.

Shot down 2 factory striders before tehy could be dropped, and nailed another one after it had been dropepd before it could do anything

...Then my teammate dropped a dropship on me, and the mission promptly went to hell. Such is the helldiver life.

And oh yeah. The DSS is now active. You can donate common and rare samples, as well as req each day. Cap of 100 commons/50 rares/10k req per 24 hours, each funds a different module for the next DSS deployment. DSS Can be voted on to deploy to a planet every 24h. When it's deployed, it provides various effects based on what modules are active

Currently, it's possible to get free barrages, free airstrikes (phrasing implies these are just called in by the game randomly?) and free Hellpod space optimzaiton (and also blocking the planet it's on from launching any attacks on other planets)

That mission is a prime candidate for having a few people with those deployable shields to help combat rando buggieness or at least buy you some time to react.

I skip rocket missions completely, they're way too repetitive for me. The players can't really speed up or slow down the progress much and the waves show up the same way every time, so short of something game-breaking happening (such as the spawns getting screwy and dropping masses of enemies behind your defenses) the fights are hugely predictable. With turrets and one or two RRs, 95% of the enemies never even hit the ground anyway. Plus you get fuck-all for resources from them. Maybe once every five missions they'll manage to push through maybe the first courtyard but it's basically always a brief thing as the wave gets blasted with artillery, then the defenders reset so the bots are pushed back out again.

The endless masses of explosions was fun enough the first few times after everything got buffed, but I'd far far rather a full mission with dynamic situations and unknown terrain and proper mission rewards.

Ya know, i'm normally very chill with devs. I'm on their side as a whole, game dev is hard, design work is not easy.

I'm genuinely baffled at what the hell happened here with the DSS. Isi t supposed to be a big narrative joke that it's a boondoggle of a wunderweapon? Because that is not communicated well at all if that's the case, and that's the only justifaction i scan see for it's current in game implenation. Because this fucking sucks[/i

@Trajan45 Pick a planet (The Major Orders usually provide some guidance on where to go, otherwise look for where the blob of players is) and jump in! Early on, just work on unlocking strats and unlocking upgrades for your ship. Spend your medals on the Mobilize warbond (you get it for free) - it'll also give you 300 supercredits as you go through it, which you can put towards unlocking other warbonds - you can find super credits for free in missions (look for points of interest, the ? on your map). All the warbonds currently have at least something that's worthwhile to use, so it's really a matter of taste - but your starting gear is perfectly cromulent and good too. Warbonds just give more options.

    Hope that helps!
