I did a brief thought experiment with the preferences, where everyone voted either Coin Return then the Post Arcade variants, or the variants and then Coin Return, with even vote share between the variants.

Seemed to come out at the same points for Coin Return and all of the variants for 50% share between Coin Return and variants.
So it didn't seem like the variants did any vote spoiling here.

Yeah, I believe Dibbit ran through the numbers and from what we can tell CR won by almost any metric possible, and was also basically the least objectionable choice as well, so we were all confident in calling it a ballgame. If anything had been hinky or overly close or messy, we'd have looked into ways to resolve that (up to and including a runoff vote if needed), but luckily it just wasn't close enough to have to cross that bridge. And we learned some valuable lessons for polling for next time around.

    ha, I put v1 for a reason.

That said, I sliced out the actual coin slot with return button and put it on a transparent backdrop so that I could test how favicons work in xenforo.

If you want to take a crack at logos or any of the other stuff we may need (badges, etc) that would be amazing. You have a great eye for it if your quick sketch is any indicator.

For nostalgia reasons one of the badges should be a broken April Fool's Badge.

I mentioned it in the TT chat the other day i think, but I wanted to have our April Fools thing be the mobile version's "New Thread" button gradually sinking lower and lower off the screen throughout the day.

Ok, so I know I said I was going to take a break, but to say there wasn't anything hinky and it wasn't overly close is just too much for me not to say something.

    - The OP of the post explaining the vote pretty clearly described the vote as generic Ranked Choice.
    - As you can easily see from reading the rest of that thread, most people were confused and voted as if each rank should be assigned to a choice.
    - People could revote to update their ranking, but no additional announcement was made clarifying how the vote worked or that you could update your vote.
    - With 5 different choices, and subsequently 5 ranks, the difference between a first ranking and second ranking is 20%.
    - There's less than a 3% difference between Coin Return and Post Arcadia points wise, but we can't see what the actual ranking results are.
    - There were two options that kept the PA acronym, guaranteeing some level of split from people that wanted to keep that familiarity.

It honestly seems like it was designed from the get go to favor Coin Return, whether intentional or not.

But since I also seem to be the only person actually upset at the results, I'll just have to learn to live with it.

I love it. Cut it, print it.

I’m serious. I actually just like being called Pennies; we don’t have to be Bad Pennies, maybe the game just didn’t accept pennies or we changed our mind about playing!

Nice callback to this forum but consistent in theme with the new one.

I was also thinking of the alternative meaning of "something unwanted that keeps turning up." (Tongue in cheek, obviously)

Even with that though if the majority of people wanted to keep that familiarity they would have had more first and second place votes for Post Arcade, and Post Arcadia. Even if 100% of the people who wanted Post Arcade had Post Arcadia as the second choice it would take a huge portion of the remaining vote to just really hate Coin Return in a way the numbers make seem unlikely. If we are looking at those who wanted to keep the familiarity vs those that wanted distance it is also clear that the majority wanted distance.

I am not trying to invalidate the pain felt here. It sucks we are in this position, and sucks we have to change the name. I wish we could have done this community building while not having to do the less helpful parts. I just want to make sure we are looking at all of the data here to see what has happened to hopefully prevent a bike shedding moment.

I'll be honest, I don't love this name.

It has big "Penny Arcade fucked us so I'm taking my coin back and going home" vibes. This has been our home for actual decades now so I'm sad we couldn't figure out some sort of Post Arcade name.

With that said I also have never liked the weird Roman vibes of anything Arcadia even though that is woven in to the core of PA.

I think at the end of the day, though it stinks that we will no longer be able to say PA as shorthand and CR is kind of bad shorthand, it is what it is.

We'll all get used to it at some point!

You could call it CoRe if that helps! Would help separate from other CR spaces like crit role and crunchyroll as well.

I didn’t vote cuz the name of the new place really didn’t matter to me. I’d have rolled with whatever. I just want to know if we’re gonna be Coins, Returns, Returners, or Coiners.

I reckon we should have a vote on this.

I sorta dig Return being in the name it’s a typing thing to do and we all type to post on this forum soooo there’s lots to draw from with the new name.
Oh dang CoRe opens up some really good possibilities

Oh no worries, and to be clear this was like just a few thoughts I wanted to get out before bed last night. There is a lot that can be explored with just the initial idea and even other concept spaces to mess around with.

The slot "CR" stack design is reallllllly solid actually, good job. Lots of design potential to work that in regularly (as we're already seeing).

Anything with 'Arcadia' or 'Neo' in the title was right out.

Post Arcade was a bit bland and really only had preserving the acronym going for it, in which case we might as well be the Puzzling Armadillo.

So by process of elimination, Coin Return wins.

I like the general direction of the ones on the left, though none of them are lighting my world on fire.

The abbreviated forms on the right, though, are all s-tier. Super solid. (I would say the coin slot should be to the left of the letters, because that's how I've always seen it in arcades.)
