also video games are dumb. farming and pre electricity tools are where it's at.
I grew up on a farm and my god, it was a boring existence. I don’t understand why so many people make games about farming, the most boring topic you could make a game about.
Meanwhile there are barely any games about the existential nightmare of retail work.

What the industry needs to do, though, is produce a shop sim about running a used video game store. The level 1 boss would be a random customer demanding to trade in the Halo 2 DVD Collector's Edition for full price.

I've seen a card game shop management sim. Even includes smelly customers. Should be a matter of time before someone makes a Gamestop counterpart

There's an entire cottage industry of games about running stores, they're just mostly B games and streamer bait.
Recettear was an interesting game back when... Don't think I ever beat it, I always got bored after a bit. The way it handled game overs was funny.
That's been my problem with games these days too
At some point the game loop loses my interest, something comes up, and I forget about the game. Happened recently with Sunless Skies, despite its excellent content.
My issue could be generic exhaustion from work, or brain problems.

What if you had a very popular game, and you decided to add a merchant to it.
But not just any merchant.
A merchant of skulls.
A skull merchant, if you will.
And she's really pissed off that nobody liked her dad's edgelord indie manga.

I didn't like how much hack and slash dungeon diving it had. You made a game about running a shop, let me play that part! Not this boring monster-fighting stuff.
