[NBA] Cavs are legit

Cavs beat Hornets with a career high 41 pts from Evan Mobley

Also, Orlando's second best player Franz Wagner just got injured :( And he was making the leap this season as well.

Its so hard to imagine that the Nuggets won the championship last year. Incredible.

I hate being a Zards fan so much. It's like, not even a fun sort of hopelessness, the sort of ridicule and self-deprecation that like Jets fans can poke at themselves and get poked by from others. We don't even matter. We don't even factor into the league.

Like, if the Wizards just stopped playing, would anyone really notice? Like, even Charlotte and Orlando feel more relevant over the past thirty years than us, and absolutely no one cares about those teams

I had fun with the early 10s Knicks and the Dlo/JA Nets but it sucks not really feeling that connected to a specific team anymore

My basketball team won for the first time since October and I genuinely forgot how a win felt. Was I meant to feel happy? Surprised? Celebratory?

Two seasons ago, but their roster was much deeper. Westbrook is doing his best, but unfortunately there isn't much of bench unit for him to captain so instead he's playing with Jokic a lot which doesn't solve the problem of them falling behind terribly whenever he's resting.

They were never going to be able to keep that whole championship team together, but they made the choice to go top heavy and not only is it not going well but also Murray hasn't even started his next extension yet. If he's still playing like Tobias Harris in two years eating up 30% of the cap then the Nugs are in for a bad time.

I know it was two seasons ago in NBA terms, but it was still just June 2023 when they won. Maybe they'll be able to figure it out since they did look good after their initial bad start, but it ain't looking good right now.

First skid was because Aaron Gordon was hurt and then they got him back and went on a nice streak. Gordon and Murray sat last night presumably to keep them fresh for the tougher Atlanta game, but that's a poor excuse for getting Wiz'd and they were full strength when they got outclassed in the second half in Cleveland.

Jokic, currently more than 1/4 of the way through the season.

    2nd in pts.
    2nd in assists
    1st in rebounds

    Bonus! 3rd in 3pt percentage.

Lakers beat Blazers tonight and 9 of the 12 paragraphs in the ESPN recap mentioned Lebron. He didn't play...

Also the article didn't mention anything about the Blazers except that they played each other. I mean I know they suck but c'mon.

I'm seeing a lot of mavs fans get salty over the fact that Jokic is at the top of the MVP ladder despite the fact that his team is a 7/8 seed, when last year Luka's MVP case and insane stats got downplayed cause of his team's place in the standings

Which like, it's fucking December? God I can't imagine caring about the fucking MVP ladder at this point

There’s only one player in the conversation for as valuable to his team than Jokic this year and that’s Ty Jerome so

Mavs fans are just prone to overreacting, same as any other team. When the losing streak happened last month and Luka wasn't performing to his usual self, people were talking like the end was nigh when it was just a few close games that went the wrong way.

I don't know. Considering Denver is first in points per possession when Jokic is on the floor and last when he's off, that's a pretty strong case for him being both the best and most valuable player in the league.

For sure. They're also still in the playoff hunt, regardless of the issues they've had on the court, so I don't mean that to diminish Jokic or what he's doing. He's the best player in the league by a wide margin.

I think it's a shame that guys like Tatum, Ja, SGA, or Mitchell can be doing what they're doing and not even be in the conversation because of how good and dominant Jokic is. And he'll win the MVP, and I won't say that's wrong, because it's clear that this season he needs to be recognized for what he's doing, but I think the guys leading the best teams also deserve official recognition - I don't know if that makes sense.

Its still early in the season but the only thing that will prevent Jokic from MVP if he keeps this up is his team record.

Of course I am rooting for Luka so I hope he starts dropping 60+pt games again to strengthen his MVP case, he looks way better now compared to the start of the season.

This is an established pattern with Luka and plays a large roll into his consideration for MVP unfortunately.

I think Jokic stands out more because he carries most of the workload while Luka has Kyrie to help free him up. But yeah, it's way too early to talk about that stuff so how 'bout them Cavs?

Yeah but last year Dallas was literally one of the most injured teams before the trade deadline. So during that stretch he had no Kyrie/Lively and the team was way worse as well since they hadn't traded for PJ and Gafford. Luka basically did the same thing Jokic is doing and the perception from Mavs fans is Jokic is getting more MVP love than Luka for doing the same thing.

But yeah way too early, there's more than 50+ games left in the season.

Well there goes the potential Dame-Butler pairing.
The Heat are open to listening to offers for Jimmy Butler, league sources told ESPN, and the six-time All-Star is believed to prefer a win-now contender in any trade.

Guess the Heat are going to count on their young guys panning out which I don't know with how often Herro is injured. I'm sure they'll get some one good in return so maybe it will be okay.

Heat can make the play-ins even without Butler, and I don't think he has enough left in the tank for another miracle run. I'm not sure what they can get for him though.

Wouldn't it be great if they actually reach the Finals if Butler returns? I think it's still possible this season, East sucks anyway so they can still be in the play-in and hopefully they'll be healthy enough by the playoffs. It's a long shot but everything they do is a long shot anyway. It's not like Butler is washed.

the only way this sixers team as constructed is getting past boston or the cavs is if the celtics' plane has a midair collision with the cavs' plane.

He actually would suit the need of the Cavs defensively, but I don't think there is a deal that would make Miami or Butler happy. He'll want the offense to run through him when he plays.
