Now I'm wondering what the healthcare situation is on Cubetown. Either they're incredibly competent as a result of having to deal with all these people, or they're also quirky and having a heart attack means you wake up with your brain implanted in a robot body (because they had one to spare).
I was looking at my old Witness Me reactions for some reason and found a post from 2015 where I was mentioning that I thought Unsounded was about to the end of the first silver / Cresce arc
Ooh, I'm going to make some guesses on this one. Quicksand bottom right. Taxes in the middle.
I want to say algebra, but this dude is a nerd he probably never asked his teacher when they would ever use it in the real world (plus he does use it).
Guess there's some benefits to having a demon girlfriend in the afterlife. Or maybe this is between torture sessions, can't imagine Hell would just let a mortal soul skate completely.

Do painful realisations that you wasted your entire life count as torture?
Also, is he completely without ways to be bought back?

I'm pretty sure his dad disintegrated his body, which would make it very difficult for him to be resurrected

Reminder that said Girlfriend is on the IFCC's payroll, so either they may have a use for him worth the Hell SlowPass, or she may have convinced them of such.

Right, 'very difficult'. But is that the kind of thing the rules allow for, so you can say oh, he stashed a vial of his blood somewhere so now he 'just' needs a high level cleric and 10,000GP, or is there actually no chance, DM has torn up the character sheet?

He's a named villain with a potential story arc in front of him to set him up as a big bad OR as a redeemed ally to the heroes.
We're talking a million to one odds here, but Discworld style.

I want to say it would require something on the level of Wish. But given that if this quest pans out they may have favor with some gods that might not be far-fetched to get one. And Rich has said before that while he sticks close to rules as written he'll change them if it makes for a better story
True Res can explicitly bring back anybody, even if their corpse was totally destroyed, there really doesn't need to be any extra special rule bending in this circumstance given we're dealing with a (near) max level adventuring party.

Alright, so, D&D 3.5.
Spell Level 5: Raise Dead. Time limit is one day/caster level, you need the body (missing parts will still be missing), and a 5,000GP of diamonds.
Spell Level 7: Resurrection. Time limit is 10 years/caster level, and all you need to resurrect someone is "some small portion of the creature's body" - with disintegrated remains explicitly counting. Oh, and 10,000GP of diamonds.
Spell Level 9: True Resurrection. Time limit is 10 years/CL, you don't even need remains and only need to be able to unambigiously identify the deceased, and you need 25,000GP of diamonds.
There's also some finagling where you can use Wish+Resurrection or Miracle+Resurrection to bring back people who are just gone, e.g. through Destruction.
Also, of course, the divine abilities of gods have even less limits.
It's definitely possible to bring him back, anyhow, it's just a matter of who, why, and when.
That sounds like a lot of diamonds for True Resurrection, but think about it: do a few True Resurrections and all of a sudden the diamond supply has gotten a lot smaller. As demand goes up, the amount of diamonds you need to be valued at 25,000GP is going to have decreased substantially.
That always sounded like an easy thing to work around; Hi, I'd like to buy that diamond you've got on display. I know the listed price is 100GP, but I'll pay 10,000. You'll accept an IOU, right?
Obviously that's some Pat Rothfuss Bullshit, but like all PRBS, depending on the DM I can see it working.

Clearly the diamond supply is regulated in order to keep the res economy afloat.
I am now imagining a printing press for diamonds akin to paper money.
“The dragons are about to raise diamond interest rates! Res res res!”
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
I feel like order of the stick has specifically done jokes about gaming the diamond market to make resurrection spells easier but maybe that was some other TTRPG-centric comedy writing source
I think order of the stick's version was "I found a way to get a discount on the diamonds!" "Okay but the spell literally says '10,000GP' worth you just have to go buy more, now." I'd find it but there's a billion of those and I'd be there all afternoon

I don’t remember if it was a diamond specifically but there was definitely a scene where a wizard was berating his apprentice after he scored a discount on a gem for use as a reagent, yes.
Makes me wonder what would happen if the wizard were to unknowingly attempt to cast with the discounted component (say the apprentice didn’t mention the deal) anyway?

It could only be improved if each letter had a separate gigantic tail going to his mouth, and they covered the panel in a spiderweb.
