I'm sorry, @SeñorAmor , I swear these other people mean nothing to me!

Also, sorry guys. Me reacting to geebs is what drove him away.

Also, motherfuck I hate that pooro is gone and why.

For years I thought that Elvenshae was stalking me and reacting to my posts with inordinate frequency.
Every time I looked at my reactions, Elvenshae Elvenshae Elvenshae...

Turns out, it's entirely ordinate for Elvenshae.

Need Elvenshaes graph. We need to know who they reacted to the most. For science.

We end 2024 with post counts being a third D&D, a third SE++, and a third all others. G+T was surprisingly low in posts given the userbase, which we'll see in a second.

Posters is a bit different. And not to be confused with Users, as we are only looking at aggregated post data and so lurkers are not included.
Out of dark curiousity, if you fit a curve to the 2010/2012's to 2024's poster numbers - how long would it be until there's just two people talking to each other (perhaps on Mars, whilst someone on the Moon lurks)?
Rough guess there might be about 40 years left in this thing?

Excellent, right on time for me to be dead!

    Thoughts from that include:
Huh, that’s a different shape from most people.

The upper bound on my Y axis is 700, which is like, the bottom or 2nd mark for a bunch of other people.

I was playing and talking a lot about Guild Wars 2 from 2014-17… and then I mostly stopped both of those things for a few years.

The bars from 2016 onwards probably shrink quite a bit if you exclude the epyc threads.

Thank you @Elvenshae @Bucketman @Kristmas Kthulhu @ouzaru and @Tofystedeth for clicking on my posts all these years.

    Fascinating.
I got a job in IT in 2007.
2012 was probably when I really went mobile with a cell phone with a data plan.
2014/2015 was probably when I stopped having time for video games and started playing board games more often with friends/family/kids.
2020 on had to really cut back the time I spent here.

Outside of a high of 7 posts/day, on average probably more like 4 posts. I guess I spent a lot more time lurking threads.

Hmm, lurked for a while then joined to talk WoW, and I remember at the time WoW had its own subforum, as it wasn't merged into the MMO subforum until later. I think that spike in 2010 was during WotLK, when the guild I was in was pushing Icecrown Citadel.

2014 saw my family grow, which meant I had to go more casual (hence the massive slowdown 2015 onward) and you can see when I finally quit the game during BFA and picked up non-MMO games.

Somewhat surprised at my "most given reactions" list. At least a couple of those have to be leftovers from my WoW days.

It looks like my career as a lurker was pretty successful! It's wild to think that this place almost disappeared into the ether without me even noticing. You all have been highly entertaining and informative over the years, which I think is probably one of the best combinations of traits a community can achieve.

Hats off to everyone involved in the transition to the new forum. I plan to continue lurking until it/I/all of us pass into the west, so keep those posts coming!

Thanks for making this. The AC was my big draw initially, it used to be so active! I was totally gone while I got into flying and did a career change, then came back when I was playing League of Legends, and hung around as I stopped. Then when I couldn't handle the full-brunt of the news during covid, the PA threads were a great way to get it in a kind of diluted semi-filtered way, and liked the F1 and parent threads too. Then you can see my shift over from DnD to SE++ before petering out.

It's funny, I've always felt very at home and welcome here but also wonder whether anyone else even has any idea who I am, or if it's all a parasocial thing. Hah!

So funny to see a lurker one that looks like others until you look at the Y Axis and realize it's only in double digits and not thousands.

Think I can pretty well track this. I mostly lurked for a good long time when I wasn't even gaming that much, went to the second PAX AUS in 2014 (after having to sell my tickets to the first one), grabbed a Wii U after playing Splatoon for a bit there and that kinda got me back into gaming as a hobby - bought a Switch in 2017 and played that pretty heavily for a bit, and then got the other new consoles at launch in 2020 and I'd say the discussions here contributed a fair bit to my hype level for those.

In non-gaming chat, I think I felt a bit self conscious about posting in D&D for a good long while, where felt I could share things with less thought put into them in SE++.

Still class myself mostly as a lurker though tbh, and last year especially was quiet because it was a busy one at work where I tend to use the forums to help pass the quiet times.

    Thanks for this, Infidel.

I really thought I posted more than this. I'm usually on once a day at least reading. I suppose I don't feel I have anything to add to a lot of the thoughtful discussion here, or other people say what I am thinking better than I could.

Also, I don't remember when the G&T XBox megathread was, but that's when I joined, and when it was kicked, I pretty much stopped here for a while. I'm glad I came back.

Just out of curiosity, and if it is not onerous to find, is there any way to tell what the most reacted to post is? It's really the closest thing to an engagement metric i can think of for this place.

That 2011 bump must have been the summer where they had all of those mini-achievements and stuff for the Steam summer sale. That was a weird year for me, as it was when my (now ex) wife moved out (for the first time) and things were a bit manic.

I posted more in that 2020-2022 timeframe than I thought.

Anyway, thanks Infidel for this stuff. It’s an interesting snapshot of something that was a big part of my life.

Also huge thanks for helping us run the GOTY polls for a few years there, I haven’t forgotten all that.

I’ve transitioned to Discord for my day-to-day online discourse but I remember this place fondly… Maybe I’ll be more active on CoRe again.
