Giant pain in the ass, kind of glad these mechanics are in the rear view mirror. Stupid dodging and block ignoring enemies.

I would say the SN levels were hard mechanics checks until the last couple kind of demanded certain roles to be filled. Like I banged my head against certain levels until I figured out much better ways to do them (3B is Ranged, 3A calls for more ground units). I appreciate getting a LOT of content, it's just kind of hard when suddenly my idle/ daily game wants two weekends of serious play in a row.

After clearing out all the EXs and EX CMs on my own, I got to the Mirror Stages, did like two of them, and then threw my hands up and went to look up video guides instead

Like sorry not sorry that's just too much of a slog and I couldn't be bothered to come up with my own strats at that point :V

Like, I'm fine, but my tortoiseshell is losing her shit because my partner left on a Thanksgiving trip this morning. Just... hop off my lap, wander around crying. (She also does this when my partner and I are both in the living room, but, y'know, different.)

I've moved to a new house, it's big and having all my stuff here just makes it worse, it feels like when you're dreaming and you're at a place you know intimately and one weird place squished together.

it is objectively a good thing that we got this house, and it is a good house, I am just not used to it. barring when I'd run away and a brief stint of homelessness, I've lived at the same house for like, 30 years.

I wanna go home, but I am home.

    New bike - glamour shot:

    Qzfkbus.jpg

I figured if I'm going to get an electric bike I was going to go all in and not pretend like it's an normal bike but now my legs are somehow stronger, it was going to be a ridiculous thing where clearly I'm not riding an acoustic bike (credit to someone on twitter for that particular phrasing), it was definitely a weird roughly bike-shaped thing with a motor. (also it folds because pretty much all the electric bikes this shape fold, for some reason). So, added front basket, rear rack, a random plastic crate I had kicking around and some zip-ties, and now I can use it to carry around significantly more stuff than I could practically carry on a normal bike:

    lMGXpot.jpg

The handling was not the greatest with 21lbs of pumpkin dangling off the front like that, but it was manageable. Also, the front basket is fixed to the frame, so there's a weird effect where, when I turn the handlebars, the wheel turns but the basket doesn't, which is very much not what my eyes are expecting to see, and I still have to really think about it when going round really tight corners.

It also turned out that the crate on the back is a perfect fit for the standard folding grocery box/bags around here, and the front basket will hold a big bag of dog kibble, so that's been useful:

    FSAMIFu.jpg

Riding it around is fine; the motor's enough to get me up all the hills that I can get up pedalling normally, just with less effort, and while the tires don't have a whole lot of grip on loose dusty terrain the overall handling is good enough that I can get _down_ all the same hills that I could get down normally, usual 'weight over the back wheel' techniques work. (video links, they're not big but are bigger than I want to embed in this thread. The awful sound in the first one is because it was taken with my phone bungee'd to the front basket so it picked up a lot of rattling, and the second one doesn't look like much on video but that particular little slope is steep enough that _walking_ up/down it takes some care and attention, I promise)

On the flats the maximum speed is maybe 35km/h with the motor at full power, and given how heavy it is I can't get it much beyond that by pedalling, so I couldn't keep up with me-on-a-road-bike-on-a-good-day, if you see what I mean, but that's fine -- I got this as a workaround while I'm physically not at my peak for various other reasons, and it definitely means I can keep cycling everywhere I'd normally be cycling, and as a bonus tote a bunch of heavy stuff with me if necessary. Plus, new toy!

Do you dig it? I've been toying with the idea of buying one to commute to work after someone stole my commuter.

I absolutely love mine. It gets decent enough mileage, and some exercise along the way. It is a pretty good way to get around when people aren't trying to run me over.

I bought my little one her first pedal bike for her fourth birthday. Unfortunately the seat post is a little too tall for her so the shorter one is on order!

I'm very excited/nervous to try to teach her to ride once it warms up a bit.

So the Leafs traded for Conor Timmins to help fill in on their beat up blue line. I always liked the kid and wished the best for him but he’s pretty much been a walking bandaid himself. Curious to see how it goes.

Also Ryan Reeves to Minnesota, apparently. That team just gets easier to hate all the time.

so lately two of my cats have been at odds, to the point where we had to like, keep them separate.
but we moved and we just brought the cats to the new house and are letting them explore and the two who were fighting have been very good to each other

it helps that one of them is prescribed gabapentin so we just got them high so they'd get used to hanging out again

    mood: hopeful

edit: he takes gabapentin when needed, and fluoxetine aka Prozac once a day

it's bothersome but I kinda love that the first cat that was Mine has inherited my neuroses

Heavy family stuff inside. tldr: mood = bad
    I lost my aunt today.

Well, to be accurate I lost her two years ago. Just took til now for her to cross the line that had been already pushed back several times.

For three years now my mother has been planning a trip with my aunt and uncle. Their last big overseas travel adventure before they're too old to do these things anymore. Naturally 2020 did its thing and it got pushed back. Then things seemed up in the air when my aunt and cousin decided to escape the communist authoritarian state of Washington and move their families to Florida the land of freedom. My mom had a hard time with that, half the family moving as far away from WA as possible while still staying in the US. Found a therapist though and has been working through it, gotten better. After all, somehow the trip was still on, even if things were strained. So there's that to look forward to. They make the payments, they sign paperwork, it's getting close now gonna happen in march.

Then the hard copy of the paperwork arrives and my aunt sees that the agency requires the covid vaccine and one booster. Because they want insurance to cover their business, presumably, and don't want to get sued if there are no precautions and someone gets sick. This information has been in all the paperwork up til now, right in plain sight.

    She loses her shit.

My uncle calls my mom and lets her know what's going on, and my mom is understandably worried. But she sends an email saying hey, don't cancel right away, let's talk this over first.

An hour later she gets an email from my aunt saying she's cancelled her tickets because of this requirement, it's an imperial attitude and just what she was escaping Washington and its planned relocation settlements for unvaccinated people for. The real estate people she knows say that plan only fell through because they couldn't find land. So the trip's off, maybe they can work out something else.

So yeah, unilaterally deciding her way is more important and must be done immediately. Not even pretending to consider my mom's stake/desires/feelings in the situation and talk it over. This last trip together, the one that was the one my mom planned and had been wanting to do for years now after a bunch of trips to places they had picked. Sorry, not taking the "untested, useless vaccine" is more important than even picking up the phone, any other action besides immediately flying off the handle and throwing everything out the window is inconceivable.

My mom's gutted, was basically a wreck for four hours. Better now, but only in the sense she's not actively crying. This shit isn't going to be fixed quickly.

The only remaining person she's known her entire life. Of her two living siblings, her brother stole a ton of money from their father and almost left him to die of neglect and we haven't spoken to him in almost 20 years. And now her sister is an inconsiderate selfish fascist conspiracy nutcase who probably hasn't even realized the size of the fire she set on this bridge. Or that she set one at all.

There's no "working something else out." Doing a different trip that doesn't have vaccine requirements... good luck finding an agency for that. Even then it wouldn't be the one that my mother specifically wanted to do. Plus it validates my aunt's horseshit as legitimate when it's entirely unreasonable, and says it's ok you did this we can still do something else that will be acceptable to you. Fuck that, it's not ok. So there's not going to be a substitute.

Tomorrow's thanksgiving. Dunno if she's gonna call, but my mom doesn't want to talk to her. I'm done with this shit though so i'll talk I don't care. I got things to say.

What happened to the Red Wings?

They used to be the best or near the best routinely, and for the last decade they’ve been kinda mediocre.

The Wings tanked for about......5-6 years(?). They brought in Steve Yzerman after he rebuilt the Lightning and I believe he's on year 3. They've started their upswing with a very solid core but it'll be another 1-2 years before they are back in the playoff conversation.

Short version: they got old and didn't have solid new talent so got bad. But they drafted well and are starting to see improvements

Ken Holland was really, really bad at being a GM with a salary cap and no market inefficiencies (European scouting advantage) to exploit. Also the like fifth best player ever finally retired.

Also also, they might be a little ahead of schedule. They're in the playoffs at the one quarter mark.

I don't disagree, but there are plenty of reasons why a national broadcaster in TNT would very much like you to watch their games on their platforms, not a competitor's platform.

And local broadcast rights are also worth a lot of money to teams. In fact, for most teams, the local broadcast deal actually brings the team more revenue than the team's individual share of the national deals.

Until the scale tips that the league and teams can make more money from a streaming deal, it won't happen.

There's also the ease of use factor. I'm actually *really* interested to see how the MLS/Apple deal goes, since in 2023 the only way to watch MLS soccer games (unless they do manage to strike a side deal for a few games on ESPN/FOX in the US) will be on the Apple TV platform. While that seems like the future, it also seems like a few years too early for that. Long term, it is probably the right call. But I can see the first couple years of that deal being *extremely* painful for the casual fan that isn't up and up on how to get Apple TV content on a TV.
