MacKinnon seemingly out now too. I know I shouldn’t really complain because, well, the Cup, but this is insane.

At the beginning of the season I finally cancelled my satellite and caved on Sportsnet Premium for a year since it’ll cost me less than the satellite package I had and I’ll get more use out of it. Now I get to watch the Colorado Eagles.

It was 6-0 after 1 and finished 9-4. So if you're a Columbus fan you can say you won the last two periods! B)

I think they were inspired by Simon's Quest, but it's definitely its own thing. Not nearly as much collection and weapon options as even that game, so it's fairly light on the Metroid Vania credentials, but it still counts.

There are some bullshit room design/enemy placement combos intended to drop you into instant death. There are a lot of accessibility/difficulty options that make that whole thing less aggravating, from having more extra lives, to not losing everything when you die, to bottomless pits dealing damage instead of being death.

There are several variant characters you can play with after beating the main campaign, with wildly varying difficulty. Overall I played through four or five times.

Note: there's an excessive amount of gore. Also at least one of the monsters has tits. If that stuff bothers you, probably pass

I've played through Infernax multiple times to see a bunch of the different endings. The game is amazing, but very punishing. Draws a lot of inspiration from Castlevania II with quests and stuff. Lots of inside jokes to that series as well.

The game is strict but fair. There are two modes: Casual and Hardcore. The biggest difference is Hardcore mode has you lose everything since your last save. Casual is a lot more forgiving.

Of course, since it's a love letter to older Castlevania games, there's a lot of instant death spikes and pits. If that sort of thing frustrates you, I'd give it a pass.

As I said before, I beat the game multiple times since there are different endings based on your decisions. You can go try to follow a good or bad path and your character will change in appearance and weapon usage. Or you can ignore that stuff and go right down the middle. There's a lot of dark humor as well and it's very violent, so keep that in mind. Your first playthrough will run about 4-6 hours, with each run much shorter than that. Heck, there's one ending that only takes 5 minutes to get. :)

There's lots of Easter Eggs from older NES games and in-game cheat codes that can really change the way you play. I won't spoil them here though.

10/10, my game of the year last year.

Why waste 7 hours learning about the greatest Castlevania games of all time, when you can spend 40 minutes seeing the in and outs of the recently released Tiger game.com SotN prototype?

Apparently about half the castle is there... including its inversion, including the final boss. Its crazy seeing how much has been done for this questionable system. The prototype is findable online and easily slots into an emulator, but you can watch Derek compress about 8 hours of frustrating controls down to 30 minutes of observations.

I bounced off Dead Cells kinda hard. Now I wonder if I should give it a second chance.

Also, why the fuck is Castlevania's music so incredible?

The problem with dead cells, for me, was that it released around the same time as hollow knight and was not, in fact, hollow knight.

I liked Dead Cells! But I also think you could use the same engine to make a linear game and it’d be better. Its core is a really fast Prince of Persia.

. Ovie hat trick gets him to goal #800, 1 behind gordie howe and 94 behind Gretzky for most career regular season goals.

If Ovie continues at this pace, and keeps playing until he's 40, he's going to get close to 1000. It is wild. As long as there's no catastrophic injury he's easily going to get to 900.

This video I posted in the last mood thread has actually become a pretty effective coping mechanism over the last couple of months. If I catch myself getting into a negative mood spiral when I'm alone, I try to imitate that man's howl of ultimate suffering. This has several positive effects:
    1. Yelling "Oh nooooooo" in a gutteral voice is a fun activity
    2. I get to remember a very funny YouTube video
    3. My own problems are put into immediate and stark contrast
    4. It's hard to stay in a bad mood when I picture those three commentators wincing and laughing and saying things like "He's in a bit of strife" over me being grumpy about work stuff on my off time

    Try it yourself!

I've been wondering about that. Do you think he can continue at this pace? He's getting up there and has had a lot of hard miles. To my recollection (I haven't checked), Ovie hasn't had any serious long term injuries. Is he good at keeping himself in performance condition, or is he overdue? As the end of his career approaches, does he want to go home, a la Datsyuk, and play a few years in Russia? Or is the lure of passing Gretzky enough to keep him here?
I suspect he stays, I suspect he passes Gretzky, but I wouldn't bet the house on it.

He actively talks about chasing the record now, he wants it. He will stay in the NHL until he passes it. If he ends a season at 895 he may go back and play in Russia, but he's going to go get the record.

And barring significant injury, he's going to get it. At the pace he's on this season he's going to get 25-ish more goals, let's call it 25 and get him to 825 on the season.

That would mean he would need to score 69 goals (nice) to tie Gretzky, 70 to pass. Assume he plays 3 more years, that's an average of 24 goals per year. In the last 5 seasons before this one he has 49, 51, 48 (in 68 games), 24 (in 45 games), 50. Even if his average production per 82 games drops in half, he'll get there.

So yes, unless he gets hurt, or Comrade Putin calls him home, he's getting the record.

Oh, I'm not sure this got mentioned, but the Czech team that Jaromir Jagr owns was so decimated by injury and illness last week that Jagr, 50, suited up and played in a game. His team lost 7-3, but Jaromir Jagr, 50, had 2 assists in the game, while playing 15:10.

    Jaromir Jagr is 50.

Hilariously this also resets his eligibility for the Hockey Hall of Fame, since the requirements are 3 years after your last professional game.
