I read the Further Intrusions Of Actual Life blogpost Tycho linked. I read it when it first went up back in 2014, and I still think it's a phenomenal piece of writing. Got me thinking about my dad and our relationship, but more specifically thinking about his relationship with me, if that makes sense.

Like, I'm a pretty distant son - he's got his life back in my hometown with someone who seems to make him happy, I've got my life several states away. I don't have any bad memories of him or anything, he was a Good Dad, although like most men of his generation he doesn't seem too comfortable with big feelings. He's proud of me and I'm glad he's my dad, but as adults there's not really much I need from him on a day-to-day basis.

I don't know how typical that is. There are plenty of stories about fathers and sons who are close, or hate each other. I don't have or want kids, so I just kinda wonder what he thinks. Does he wish I'd call more often? Would he tell me honestly if he did?

Anyway. Thanks for listening, Mood Thread.

I'm gonna drain mine for Alhaitham's hot totally not boyfriend.

Are people in denial about that? Or just a comment on how Mihoyo can’t really “out” the characters for one reason or another?

The epilogue to Alhait’s story quest seemed pretty overt.

They don't spell it out, either because China laws or gachas can't have explicit relationships because of toxic dependencies by players (or both!). It's always just been hinted at. They're "roommates," but I think in the same way that Cary Grant totally had a roommate.

Gotcha. The scene you get re-entering their apartment at the end of the story mission is what I meant by epilogue. And I understood that Mihoyo was dancing around making it explicit, but the subtext was “these guys fuck…each other.”

China definitely has a law against same sex relations being made explicitly revealed. I know of a webcomic that had to make some big changes because of it

I’m sorry I apparently took the luck.

I didn’t have many pulls so I bought the monthly before it turned over, but I had about two ten pulls before that.

I bought the pack assuming it would go poorly, but dad came home in the one 10 pull I already had so....horray?

One day soon (after six months in my experience), it will flip and they become the best little napping buddy

I woke up on the couch with a sick Tiny Wonder the other day and got immediately sad realizing that it might have been one of my very last little-guy co-naps. It is the most serene sleep (when it happens, which is rare)

@sarukun are you and mama both taking time off work?

When my bean was brand new we worked in 12 hour shifts. From 6am to 6pm I was on baby duty. I was responsible for feeding, changing and entertaining as well as doing any cooking or cleaning or other chores that needed doing while my wife could sleep or read or go outside or do whatever she wanted.
Then from 6pm to 6am we switched.

Using that method for the first 3 or 4 months was absolutely amazing and we never really got close to usual newborn burnout, even though we didn't have any family around helping. If you can swing it, I highly recommend!

Lou trying to cast banishment on Murph "the actual man" after his disastrous roll for the group was great, but the whole episode was good stuff. It feels like PiB has had less time in the spotlight than everyone else, but oddly enough it feels like Zac kind of wants it that way.
Zac seems pretty content to sit in the background a lot of times, but he's so good at doing a whole lot with very little that it's easy to forget how little space he takes up in a season

The possible saving grace for the penguins this season is that in their 3 games against THE WORLD'S BEST HOCKEY TEAM EVER Boston Bruins, the bruins have won all 3 games by a single goal and look completely unimpressive against the 17th ranked penguins.

If we manage to sneak into the playoffs despite the GMs best attempt to tank us, it could be a hilarious upset before we get swept by any of the other playoff teams in the 2nd round.

But I don't imagine we will make the playoffs either.

Edit: also we can beat tampa. The only two playoff teams in the east we have a chance against.

Unfortunately, my “time off” is over. I still work from home a fair amount, but I’m working, and when I’m teaching I generally can’t pause class unless there’s an emergency. I can pitch in in between classes, but it’s been kind of overwhelming for my wife being the one at home.

We’re also going through 3-5 day phases where things get harder and reach a tipping point, there’s maybe a fight or just some tears, and then we figuring things out and it gets easier and we’re back to normal again. We were having meals delivered for the first 45 days or so, a lovely service specifically for moms that serves simple Taiwanese dishes that are commonly recommended for moms to eat, but we’ve moved back to cooking and that feels manageable. I think as the baby gets older and we learn more about her and her communication skills develop, things will get easier, but really not being able to stop working is completely insane and I’m pretty ready to burn every stock exchange around the world to the ground with the shareholders in them.

Pro skill training tip I just now discovered: Irene's (E2) base ability is kind of broken.

    How to use it:
    1) You won't get the most out of this unless you're planning to do a skill beyond M1, and all in a row. So research what you'll need for M2 or M3 before you get going.
    2) Have Irene train the skill previous to the one you want the bonus on (M1 for the benefit being in M2, M2 for M3's benefit) for at least 5 hours. More on this later.
    3) Don't pull out Irene or the person being trained from the training room during the whole process.
    4) If you meet the conditions of 2 and 3, the follow-up skill will have its training time halved right at the start. So if you trained M1 for 5 hours with Irene, M2's time will be cut in half and if you trained M2 for the five hours, M3's time will be cut in half.
    5) This means you can get the bonus for M2 AND M3 in a row if you don't pull Irene out at any point.
    6) Once the time is cut in half, you can at that point pull Irene and stick in someone more suited to the training (highly recommended for M3 training).
    7) So if you were being very technical, you could use Irene to get M2's time halved, use someone better until the timer was just above 5 hours, stick Irene in again for 5 more hours, get the M3 bonus, and then stick in a good trainer for the shorter M3 time.

I know my first jersey (with a name plate, I had a robo-penguins jersey from the 90s)was a Malkin.

I'm pretty sure I bought the Letang one in the same purchase as the Staal one.

So, missed on Staal, but still like him and wish he was a penguin, but the Letang one has aged well

Survivor is legitimately a really good game/reality show format and everyone seems really willing to commit to it
Very funny to see the difference in vibes between the two teams, because the old guard is mostly Ally scheming while everyone else is like "I dunno we'll see what happens," meanwhile when the other team starts voting they're making fake phone calls to each other and getting so intense about it that they start laughing

honestly rooting for either Vic or Jacob at this point. either way I want both of them around for a while

    That was good.
Hopefully the show has a couple of reveals as good as Brennan and Lou's big moments in the first one. Lou revealing at the very end that he voted for Katie in the first round and Brennan's incredible heel turn from oh well "everyone vote with their heart" to "do you not think I have my head on a fuckin swivel you fucks LOOP DE LOOP" are some of my favourite Game Changer moments.

I don't know if I want to say "current boyfriend" as much as "disaster ex who only Al bothers trying to help anymore". Al's demanding chores and rent from Kaveh in an attempt to try and get him to actually claw some worth out of the world instead of getting readily scammed out of it/disdaining it in the name of True Art. They parted ways on bad terms as part of the project that got Al his free house. Kaveh could have had a free house too but he just went "myeh" and arted away.

The man designed Alcazarzaray, he should not be watering down his bean soup to make it last longer.

Yeah, it's the world exploration quest for the desert. It's only going to end shortly before you run out of tombs to raid. And oh wow is there a lot of stuff in the desert. If it helps, when the older academic shows up in Aaru Village the stuff you do for him is, like, 99.5% exploration 0.5% plot, you're out there on your own without so much as a Benben to beep at you enigmatically.
